There's a reason Pepe played as a DM for Portugal for so long and even for us when needed.

He is great at intercepting the ball closing the passing lanes and getting the ball forward. More so than any other CB we or Portugal have

Pepe is decent at everything he does, but his passing is inconsistent. He can carry the ball forward, that i know.

A long ball only turns into a hoofball when it's blasted without accuracy, wide into space, without targeting a specific player.

Pepe can play long balls forwards, but when under pressure, he loses composure, calmness and his long passes become very inaccurate.

So Nick, back to the topic, what's wrong with Ramos, Pepe, Varane and Albiol?

I'm sure Ramos can be a ball playing CB.

I guess you didn't see my earlier post. I said the only up and coming Spanish CBs are likely not available to us. I see Ramos moving permanently to CB next year (both for club and NT). That gives us the ball carrying CB you want plus the Varane signing last summer was really the Carvalho replacement you had wanted back then. With Varane's play thus far plus Albiol finally playing a few decent games, we are pretty well set with the 4 CBs. What we need for next year is a new back-up for Arbeloa at RB.

Or a new starting RB. Arbeloa is more of a backup imo.

RB's are such a rare breed I can't think of any great and upcoming RB's that we could buy.

Carvajal could be a back up to Arbeloa if he starts with Ramos at CB.

Sergio Ramos anyone?

just promote Dani Caravajal and allow him to develop while Arbeloa gets more minutes, no need to buy anyone

If Ramos becomes a CB, as we so want him to, Varane and Albiol are good backups for CB. We dont really need a backup RB as Ramos could go there when necessary, but Carvajal should be slowly groomed in. He might benefit from a loan move to Getafe or something. Nacho should eventually become introduced as a CB as well.

Arbeloa-Ramos-Pepe-Marcelo

and in the future

Carvajal-Varane-Nacho-Marcelo

Very Happy

Caravajal is a beast at RB, we should promote him.

Cesar Azpilicueta for RB.....he's Spanish, young, and was a beast before the horrific injury, haven't seen him play after the injury though.
