R9 had 1 season that can be compared to messi's seasons. Other than that he had seasons like Villa or Rooney having now. In club level he can not be compared to all time greats. YES national team made his name great. Luckily he was born in golden era of brazil.

Brazil were like today's spain, boss of their era. If R9 played in todays brazil he would win nothing for sure.

Now messi doesnt play for brazil dream team of last decade. nor he plays for spain's dream team now. messi has no luck he will never play for any national dream team

R9 played for top clubs of his era. because he was top footballer the best teams transferred him. but he failed to win the major title surrounding with such big players. So whoever says he can do this he could do that is a blind fanboy

Also R9 depended on his speed, its clear that he would loose that in some years. messi is not so fast he depends on his close control while running, messi's body type makes him accelerate and stop quickly. he can stop while running at full speed, suddenly accelerate again. this and his close control helps him to make his wonderful runs not speed. he will go like this until he is 30

talentwise R9 was the best player I have ever seen. His dribbling style, vision, playmaking abilities, creativity, skills, tricks and flair (not doing useless stepovers like CR7, but actually beating his oppoonent with the stepovers) makes him the GOAT imo.

But stat and trophy wise, CR7 is the greatest player of all time. Not even Messi can match CR7 stats.

I think real measure of GOAT is the talent and skills, cuz u see CR7 is not even close to Messi, yet his stats has overhyped him to to be the GOAT, but when you watch him, he is not very talented. He is a sexier Inzaghi.

Messi: 9 League titles, 6 domestic cups, 4 CLs, 10 Super cups and 3 World Club Cups

Ronaldo 5 League titles, 5 domestic cups, 5 CLs, 5 super cups and 4 world club cups

I don't know where this myth started, but it's just that... a myth.

CR was the best player on his team for all those cups Mole... while Messi wasn't with at least 1 CL and some of the early ones (Ronaldinho and even Eto'o despite Pep were the top dogs).

Also, CR dominated in 3 leagues (portugal, EPL and La Liga) while Messi has comfortably stayed within one... which is a big challenge as NT performances show.

Not saying CR is better than Messi. But he's taken on bigger challenges and conquered them all.

The counter argument that Messi would have overcome the same challenges is a non-starter because you don't know... one has proven it while the other hasn't even tried.

My two cents.

Eh? CR left Portugal when he was 17 years old lol, he didn't dominated shit there.

Also 1 CL was with Eto'o and Ronaldinho and if you don't want to count that then it's still favourable in Messi's favour overall.

The myth that Ronaldo has dominated him in trophy count, is still a myth. There's just not a case of Ronaldo being the GOAT when it comes to trophy count, if you want to think of something else then go right ahead.

This argument doesn't work though.

He was massive, like Mbappe, when he came up at Sporting.  Pure winger there though...  just couldn't be handled in his brief stint (25 games or so).  Like Mbappe, everyone wanted him despite a small sample size.  His talent jumped out that much.

I remember Portugal in Euro 2004 (after 1 year at Man U I believe)....  He was sensational.

Yeah 25 games isn't domination.....

He won nothing there other than a Super Cup, no one denies his talent but that's a ridiculous comment tbh.

He left long before any sort of domination was feasible. Mbappe, won the league and scored against the best teams in Europe, that's not even close to an accurate comparison.
