I hated them too at first but you can clear them in like 30 seconds once you're a veteran, with a few tactical drops from ledges, right down to the boss room

lot of interesting secret items in the area though

also there's a specific item in the catacombs you need for a hidden boss fight, think it's a darkmoon ring, did you stumble upon it?
