Midfield Thread

We have GK + Defence and forward thread, but no midfield?

Anyway, I'll start us off: We've always played a 3 man midfield under Kenny, so we'll most likely continue that next season.

We have Lucas and Spearing which covers the DM positions.

We then have Meireles, Gerrard, Henderson and Shelvey for CM.

Henderson might play RM/RW though, and he probably will play wide seeing as we're interested in Adam.

Thoughts on how Kenny will manage the midfield?

now for me a lot will depend on the Mata scenario . .hope it gets resolved soon . .

if that goes through we can pursue various plans with the formation a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1 or a 4-3-3 all would go & would vary in accordance to the team we are facing . .

anyway this are all vague ideas i would surely post a final view after some foreign players are bought as i believe many of our local purchases would get into the youth . .but do see Henderson getting into the first team

Point: we are stacked with midfield options. Serious depth there even if Shelvey was to be sent out on loan, (which if to a PL club would only be a good thing in my eyes).

CM: Gerrard & Adams. What will happen after mid-September when Gerrard returns!!! Will SG take the AM position or will Adam get benched!!! What's the status of Shelvy!!! Heard he might be loaned.

AM: Aqualini & Raul. None has started in first game & Aqua can still be sold. Things will be more complicated after mid-September as three potential starters will fight for a single spot (AM/CM).

RW: Suarez, Kuyt, Maxi & Henderson. Very deep. Though some will argue that Suarez will play as SS, I think he will start on the right side with a free role.

LW: Downing, Maxi. Does any one feel a new young LW will be usefull to keep Maxi out of sleep-mode!!!

I would expect Coady to be 3rd choice DM and play a few cup games.

This looks solid i agree! & seem to grow stronger as every game passes! ! . . & as Beautifulgame suggested Coady is a decent 3rd choice cover, good talent that kid!

I would really like to see Shelvey going out to a club like Bolton . .Owen Coyle can really get the shells off the young ones . .or any other premier league club would do! I sort of feel Stevie & Adam might be used in rotation if depending on the formation we use in matches . .a 4-4-2 would definitely put Adam in the bench . .whereas a 4-5-1 with CAM might put both on the field . .

would really like to see Aqua as a supersub or player for the Cups cause i feel the guys has the added spark of creativity that Raul does not have . .

The most preferred candidate here for me would be Kuyt. . but playing Hendo would mean Suarez would drift little to the right every game & Hendo would have a tendency to make central movements. .this is easily done as Suarez does have a habit of moving around a lot around the box. .

I say this & i say this seriously give Raheem some chances . . build him up slowly for next season! but saying that i guess he would be busy for the NextGen tournament. .

On Maxi falling sleep . .dude the guy scored 7 goals in 3 matches after he was dropped for a few! ! :O i guess making him seat is a good exercise for him

a very likely scenario but with additions of Hendo or Kuyt the scenario would definitely change with Adam put in the bench

So Joe Allen saga is over and tomorrow we can call him a Liverpool player. He's a great little player from 7-8 games I've seen him play. He's an immense dribbler of the ball, especially with his surging runs from midfield. He can pass the ball well. He's very quick and mobile. He's also very good defensively, so not only can he be one of Lucas' midfield partners but also his back-up.

Anyways we can agree that BR paid 15mill for him because he sees him as a starter.

This leaves Joe Cole, Charlie Adam, Suso, Coady, and Teixeira. BR seems in love with Joe Cole and it wold be far fetched to dream him leaving this summer (keeping fingers crossed for his departure next summer). Suso is ready, this summer he was brilliant both for Spain and us in the US tour. He will probably get garbage minutes in EL, League Cup, and FA Cup. Coady will do well to have another year in the reserves under his belt and Teixeira still needs to adjust to the new culture so reserves for him as well.

And then we have Charlie Adam, whom we have no use for. He's simply not good enough to be playing for LFC and he doesn't fit our new style of play. I say loan him out if we have to, to increase his worth and then sell him as soon as we can.

Couldn't agree more, I can foresee one of those 20+ goal seasons for him in all comps.

Paid 15 mil for him, and he has better passing range (and discretion) than Adam or Hendo.

Yeah... He's starting once he's acclimated.

It's a fair question if he will be fully ready for WBA, though. Logic says that he would fit well into Rodgers's system, but it is a different team, and he will have only had a little over a week to get ready. I'd say he's likely to start Saturday, but not an absolute.
