Finished it, I loved it. The world they designed is awe inspiring, love the story and the main characters especially Bayek, the sidequests where much better than I expected and the combat which seems to have gotten a mixed reaction from what I have seen I also enjoyed.

Although I do have a slight concern that considering this was made by the Black Flag team that the sequel won't be as good, but for now this one was great.

Wow, that was quick. Did you complete all the side quests? Did you hit the level cap? How many hours did you play it in total?

Also, is the sequel going to be Egyptian-themed? Or did the story end with a conclusion?

PS: does this game have synchronisation like previous games? I really liked getting that 100% sync, the OCD person I am Laughing

Nah i still have side quests to do and places on the map to explore, but according to the Ubisoft Club my hours tracked as of completing the story was 48 hours. hmm

I'm around level 37 i think and i have level 40 quests so no i haven't hit the cap yet. I know for a fact that the Ubisoft Club has a completion % but i have no idea if there's any in game.

As for whether the sequel is going to be Egyptian themed or not, do you really want to know that? i fear that might spoil the game some what tbh.

Sounds like you still got 10 or so hours left in the game then. That is comparable to Black Flag.

Actually, never mind. I'll find that out myself Very Happy

I'm around halfway through the game.
Goods:

  • Main story is not a bore fest like recent ACs. Main characters are engaging.
  • For such a huge world, the game has been polished very well. Even on PC I haven't encountered any bugs yet.
  • Combat. I know I hated it at the start but once you learn it, it really does add depth to gameplay.

Mehs:

  • Side quests are meh. While there are not many MMO-style fetch quests, they are very bland and filler. The only side quest I actually enjoyed that had a bit of Rockstar-style profoundness was Precious Bonds.
  • Grinding for materials. I know it is an RPG, but be more creative Ubisoft? I do chores IRL I don't need it when I'm playing games.
  • Facial animations belong to a decade ago.

Uglies:

  • Quantity over quality. Too many bandit camps, ships, outposts etc. all looking and playing exactly the same. It becomes zero fun and then absolutely tedious after a few.

It's hardly news that Ubisoft are all about quantity over quality Razz I recently read that the relative popularity of Assassin's Creed Origins helped the company recoup some of the money they lost through their endless list of other games that were released since last year. Clearly, their quantity over quality policy works to a certain extent since people still buy even their most half-arsed projects, but they simply oversaturated the market with these cool concept, no substance games.

Don't remember grinding for materials once lol, I never once did actually.

Obviously you have to if you want to upgrade certain stuff but I never once felt like I needed to so I didn't lol.

Also like Witcher 3 I flat out ignored question marks (except for tombs and Pyramids) after a while you get the point and realise that you are wasting your time.

Probably two reasons while I don't feel the way you seem to.

There is plenty of grinding to do if you want the all the legendary armour upgrades. Of course you can buy them with your Helix credits (i.e. real money) which is exactly why they feel like a grind. To make you spend your money on microtransactions.

Well, the problem is the world is full of questions marks. And they are a waste of time. So my question is, why are they even there to begin with? I rather the developers spent that time improving the quality of existing quests, or add a few extra ones instead.

Also on the subject of tombs, I thought they were a bit underwhelming and the puzzles were too easy. Much prefer Tomb Raider's.

An important thing, and this is my gripe with all those Ubisoft open-world games: they use a game engine that has automated features; it automatically builds the world for them, much like procedurally generated content, and then the artist or developer goes and polishes it. When I look at Los Santos, you immediately realise that the city is built by hand, street to street, hill to hill. There is no genericness to anything in Los Santos. When I roam around Egypt however, it is so obvious that some things are generated by a computer. Camps that are laid out in exact same arrangements, markets look all the same, even NPCs have 3 or 4 different clothing variants, just with different colour palette arrangements.
But then again I ask myself the question, how long did it take for Rockstar to come up with Los Santos while Ubisoft  develop 2-3 open world games a year Laughing

They are still using a modified version of the farc Cry map editor lol, just go look at it on youtube. Some of the shrubs, foliage etc is eerily similar.

Anyways, finished the game, i agree on the grind, i didnt like it much, especially towards the end of the game, there's a bit of a power creep. The sidequests i did not very much like, its always routine and repetitive fetchy quests 'Go help my husband he's been kidnapped' etc, help him out of the cage, escort him/pick him up and finito.

The story is great and i agree with Mole, Bayek is one of the best characters, and thee VA did a fantastic job, same with his wife. When i say story i don't include the otside of the Animus shit.

I didn't very much incentivize on going to those question marks, most of the time they were unerwhelming like animal lairs or uninteresting place. Even the tombs are meh most of the time.

The loot system (which somehow got popular now? Despite WoW having it for 15 years?) no idea how this shit just got popular, the blues/purples/legendaries are all drawn from WoW, now i see it in Shadow of War, Deus Ex, and AC? Why is this getting popular NOW? I like the different variety of items, combat is decent apart from the somewhat wonky controls. They have my +1 for not making it an Arkham clone with your typical infinite counter bs.

The setting was great

Overall it was a fun game, solid 7/10 for me

There's your answer then, i didn't care for them tbh. I didn't need the upgrades, all the legendary armor and weapons you get via quests was more than enough.

Didn't even once feel like i needed anything more than what was handed to me, as for the question marks it doesn't bother me because they are completely optional.

I really don't understand the world building criticism tbh, if there's one thing this game does exceedingly well it's how well designed the world is.

Just one of many examples...

http://www.kotaku.co.uk/2017/11/04/this-weeks-giza-pyramid-discovery-was-already-built-into-assassins-creed-origins

Also the world nailed the same feeling that Witcher 3 did in the sense it felt organic to explore, it felt natural to go from the countryside, to the deserts, to the cities not places magically appearing from nowhere.

Something even GTA 5 doesn't excell at. I'm fully aware i'm in the minority here but i actually liked the sidequests tbh, they don't have great characters you care about most of the time but they weren't just generic fetch quests and almost always had an interesting story to tell.

100% completed after 90 hours Laughing

I'm not sure what to think of the whole experience. The story was OK but nothing special in the end imho. Combat certainly felt good but towards the end I had to up my game to Hard otherwise everything was just too easy. The world was well crafted but still not near Rockstar level. I felt the side quests were also underwhelming and came across numerous bugs (nothing game breaking however, which is rare for Ubisoft).

6.5/10

A return to form for the series.

I'm around level 20 and just killed the Scarab. Keep getting distracted of the main quest though. Bayek is great, very different and refreshing. Same with Aya.

Finished all the quests and locations. Got 85% of the trophies, could easily platinum it but CBA.

Great game, not a big fan of the retcons though. Thought the main story made it clear that the sequel will be
Spoiler:
Ancient Rome

Spoiler:
Yeah, original Kotaku leak mentioned it will be a trilogy with possibly the same character in Egypt, Greece and Rome.

I love Bayek but I would prefer getting a full game with Aya or Brutus.

Re: The Official Assassin's Creed Thread

2nd Expansion is out today, sounds like it might be decent going off the press release.

The most mysterious secrets of Ancient Egypt will be released in The Curse Of the Pharaohs extension, included in the Assassin's Creed Origins' Season Pass.
Journey with Bayek to the city of Thebes after he receives reports of mysterious events. Upon his arrival, Bayek discovers a curse has descended upon the region, transforming Thebes into a living nightmare. To lift this curse, Bayek must investigate its cause while fighting beasts once believed to be just legend.

This second expansion brings new content to Assassin's Creed Origins with new missions, characters and enemies from Egyptian mythology. Fight giant scorpions, Anubis warriors, and Egypt's mightiest beasts through an entirely new region.

- Improve Bayek with a higher level cap and new abilities
- Explore a new region - The Valley of the Kings, City of Thebes, Aswan, and Oasis
- Find new legendary weapons with unique attributes

Still probably best to wait for the reviews but it sounds more worthwhile than the other one.

Haven't played Assassins Creed in a long time.

Is it worth to jump to this Egyptian one?

I played 1, 2, Brotherhood and Revelations. Was looking forward to 3 to see how the story finished but then I heard it didn't actually finish and was a let down and a bunch of games started coming and I got lost.

Egypt, Greece and Rome sound awesome though. Do I need to play the rest I missed (99% chance I won't play them)?

Origins as the title suggests is an origin story so no you don't need to play the others.

Bought the DLC.

Really like it so far, there's a whole new area which is great so far as well. Although the highlight for me so far after playing for about 5 hours is the first boss fight.

I liked it so much because it put a heavy emphasis on timing your combos right, dodges etc etc because the boss is so damn fast where if you f*** up it does punish you for any mistiming of your dodges, rolls or getting overly greedy with your strikes.

Felt really good when i actually beat it.

I'm actually surprised how good it is so far, to the point their Witcher 3 inspiration seems to have applied to DLC too.

A really meaty expansion in a new area with a new story isn't something i expected from Ubisoft.

Around 20 hours later I've finished it, I was surprised how good it was tbh.

An entire new map with some really great locations to explore, a really fun storyline (which I won't go into for obvious reasons) and as mentioned before some good boss fights which led to some good loot.

If I were to be extremely critical I'd say that most of the side quests weren't amazingly interesting but there wasn't enough of them for that to be overly troublesome.

None of which I would have expected from an Assassins Creed DLC as most in the past that I played we're bordering on bad tbh and definitely not value for money.

Never been a fan of Ancient Greece tbh, but I'm not surprised they have chosen it as the setting for the next game. Nevertheless looking forward to E3 reveal.
