Huntelaar? I think that he's proven himself with the Dutch national squad (unlike a certain Gunner, btw) and he's also doing awesome in Germany. He wasn't doing bad either in Madrid imo, but look at him. That's why he got sacked. I'm not even a fan, but calling him a bad reject...

Huntelaar has scored 34 goals in 34 games this season. Definitely not a bad reject lol. Heinze also won a league after leaving Madrid, which although it doesn't make him good, it makes him more successful than Madrid have been since his departure :lucas:.

Anyways, I don't watch the bundesliga very often, but when Hummels has been brought up in this thread before the #1 complaint is that he is too slow to play in our defensive high-line. Some users compared his potential signing with that of Chygrinsky.

That certain gunner is a proven player in a top league such as EPL unlike Huntelaar who proved lethal in Eredivisie and Bundesliga but didn't succeed in La Liga or Serie A. Yes, his national goalscoring stats are unbelievably good but you have to consider RVP has had to play on wings for the majority of his career for Oranje.

Hummels too slow? You mean his running speed or his ball moving speed? Because I'm pretty sure he not slower than Garay, if not faster.

And Heinze...seriously. I hate him so much! And winning the French league is not a big achievement. Not to mention he is terrible for Argentina as well.

Zanetti > Heinze

No offence Wink

He is not a bad reject in my opinion Smile He was a solid defender for Roma and he proved to be just as good for Nerazzuri as well.

No need for anyone really though Silva may b a good option but I don't think we have the money for him. Alba will be good to get in 2013 when he is free and Abidal will be gone by then. Fontas and Barta to be loaned out and get a bit more playing time and hopefully they will good to play in a season time.

Huntelaar didn't get any time to really adapt to his enviroment in La Liga. He scored 8 goals in 20 games for Madrid, not bad for your first 20 games, especially since he didn't get to play 90 minute in several occasions. Lets take a look at Benzema, 8 goals in 27 games for Real Madrid (in La Liga) in his first season. Sure, I'm not saying that Huntelaar would've become as good as Benzema, but the stats don't lie. He didn't do a bad job considering everthing. Due to Pérez he never really got a chance. His stats for Milan aren't that bad either. And I was comparing him to the RvP during the time he played no. 9 at the national team. He was shit almost all the time and Huntelaar wasn't. Fact.

Yeah but its almost a liability when you have a striker who only scores goals and literally does nothing else.

Didnt hold up the ball well, didnt run in behind to force the line back, didnt come wide and dribble, didnt create...yes he got goals, but nowhere near enough to justify not doing anything else.

We are moving away from the initial statement now, which was that Huntelaar was a bad reject. Which he simply isn't. Probably would do great in England as well.

Anyway, it depends on the way you play the game. RvP is obviously overall the more skilled player, but he plays shit for the national team (overall) I'd rather have someone in the team who at least excels at something. Wink

Agreed with The Franchise.

Stats, stats, stats. It has become the new obsession, hasn't it? Do you really measure a player's worth by stats? Xavi and Iniesta rarely assist, almost never score. Are they bad players? Even then Huntelaar's stats are borderline OK in La Liga and Serie A. And certainly not good for a top team like Madrid or Milan. If they were, he would be still playing there.

No obsession at all, and also not new. You have to see things in perspective. You said Klaas-Jan is a bad reject, which is a statement which I didn't agree with. Numbers are a good way to prove a point, especially if we are talking about a #9. We are not talking about Xavi and Iniesta, who's excelense and worth is not only knows by all culés but football fans worldwide. I already gave a reason for Huntelaar's 'ok' stats. He's not a TOP-player, but certainly no bad reject. And now it is time for me to hit the sack.

Didn't know where to put this. I don't think we need this signing now, but we may need a left-back in a couple of years.

What about Filipe Luis? We tried to get him before, it fell through. He's got his fitness and form back now. I think he's a better option to Alba.

Filipe Luis is fantastic and had Alves and Sanchez in his pocket at the weekend

:coffee:

Spoiler:
Not really but he did deal with thier threat very well

I have always like him, going back to his Depor days i would much prefer him to Alba who i dont rate as high.

But Free does'nt like him Sad

@free_cat wrote:

Barcelona were poor. Atlético didn't let their play flow by either closing down quickly or committing fouls. Barcelona had so much possession but it was the rojiblancos who had more shots on target. And if it wasn't for a terrible linesman, Falcao would have bagged another goal. Not to mention Busquet handling the ball in the penalty area.

Filipe Luis? :lol!:
What did he do?

We were atrocious, but that doesn't mean Atletico was superb or Filipe Luis great.

What ever will we do Sad

Filipe Luís is not as quick as Alba, but is a better player defensively. I remember Barcelona almost signed him back when he was at Depor only to be snatched in the end by Atlético. He has height which is much needed in Barcelona's defensive line-up. Last night he nullified Barcelona's right wing completely. Never seen Dani Alves so frustrated.

No, I actually like Filipe Luis, and more than Jordi Alba. But I'm not sure any of them is a right fit to eventually replace Abidal. Also, Alba seems a better transfer target because he would be much cheaper and is younger.

But he wasn't the man of the match, it's ridiculous to say that. Dealt with Alexis, that's a good one! If you are not disabled, you can deal with Alexis (when it comes to not being dribled).

Alves wasn't frustrated, scored a goal, made 2-3 crosses that could have been goals, and dribled their entire defence (Filipe Luis included) once.

Alba: Speed, attacking
Luís: Long balls, headers, defending

I think Luís is more fit to replace Abidal. He is more composed on the ball and doesn't lose it often. Both need to work on their passing if they want to fit in Barcelona though.

Yes, Alba is younger, but Luís still has plenty left in him. Barça signed Abi when he was around the same age as Luís.

Another thing is if Filipe Luis or Jordi Alba are better than Adriano, which I'm not really sure. Though we can't trust Adriano as a starter for sure, he gets injured all the time.

Frankly there are no left backs right now who can replace Abidal. Perhaps I would take Marcelo but knowing that's a deal that is never going to happen, I'll stop wasting my time.

Serie A fans would argue that Chiellini is a top LB though.

Filipe is 26 which is not old. The main thing here is that he's taller and stronger, and we've all said before we don't want two midgets at right back. Maybe we'll lose Alves at some point (he won't stay forever I believe), but still I think Filipe is a better fit.

Alba is faster, and probably a better dribbler, but Filipe certainly isn't slow and is a very good attacker. A very strong runner of the ball, technically good, holds the ball well and defends better.

I do think he's a bit better than Adriano too. I never liked it when we had a backline where Pique was the only player over 6 foot. Though I think the team needs to train headers more than having tall players. Even Busquets and Pique miss easy clearances.

Yes. I do like Filipe. In fact I would have signed him in 2009. But I didn't believe in Abidal that much back then. Frankly I thought he was very poor under Rijkaard. He's been instrumental in Barcelona's success in recent years though.

Alba will be a better opton as he is catalan born and has good dribbling skills and is fast so he can come back to defend more easier than what Abidal, Adriano or even Maxwell do. He will also be free probs be at the same time when Abidal goes. Fontas and Barta to go for a season loan and probs may be better for the next season. If I was Pep, I will be developing them into his sytle at the late stage of this season, if they are to do any good next season (like wha he did with Fontas and Thiago last season).

Dumb reason.

and has good dribbling skills and is fast so he can come back to defend more easier than what Abidal, Adriano or even Maxwell do.

Being fast isn't as important as positional awareness for a fullback and getting back to position. Filipe is better at this.

Agree with the dribbling... but we don't need a dribbling machine at fullback. Filipe is very, very good going forward as well. He was one of Depor's best attacking threats for years from fullback. If Alves is still on the other wing, we don't want another cavalier fullback anyway.

The only significant things Alba really has over him are youth, potential and speed. Being Catalan will smooth over the transfer though.
