Bastian Schweinsteiger

He is Bayern's most important player. With him they're a WC team, without him a very average one Very Happy

Actually, Schweinsteiger is an allround weapon. As soon as he is on the pitch, he improves the team from defense to attack. Remember the start of the season until he broke his collarbone?

He is only one player. Not even Messi can have this allegedly impact in a team. With Schweinsteigger Bayern are better, for sure, but there wouldn't be that much of a difference, they would hit rough patches of form too.

[insert stats comparing bayern's goals allowed when schweini plays and when he doesn't]

They pretty much make the case that when Mr. Piggy plays the defense looks world class, and when he doesn't the defense looks like what they're actually able to do.

That's just because Schweinsteiger is a more important player than Messi. Messi might be better, but he's just a run-of-the-mill forward, he just happens to be the world's best at that. Schweinsteiger plays at a far more exposed and important position, and he does it better than anyone else. Choke on his dust, mate. Choke. :coffee:

Now now, let's not get the Madrid bias get it to you so quick :coffee:

This thread is not about Messi so I'll keep it short: Messi is far more involved in build up than the normal forward, he often drops deep into the midfield and has recovered balls at the 18 yard line of his own team, in some games he resembles more an attacking midfielder than a forward (especially when Fab plays "False 10") and overall he has enough ability to play a position that many world class forwards could never do in the False 9. Most certainly not a "run-of-the-mill" forward.

@Free: Messi doesn't because the overall quality of the team is better, but if he played for Napoli chances are he would have more of an impact.

Bayern should be winning matches without Schweinstiger, under Van Gaal Bayern were winning matches with Ottl-Pranjic as CM.

Against United first leg here was our formation.

-----------------Butt---------------------
Lahm--Demichelis---Van Buyten--Badstuber
Atlintop----Van.B----Pranjic---------Ribery
------------Muller---Olic-----------------

The problem is not Schweini absent but bad coach; Hey!

Bayern's undisputed talisman.

Man makes the team tick. Iniesta-De Rossi hybrid if I've ever saw one. Sorely missed right now.

I actually dint know they were seeing each other. Now i understand why Schweinsteiger can barely even run these days.

Good upgrade tho

Schweini has been giving everything off the field for the past couple of years
If you have the chance at being together with Ana Ivanovic, it's clear where your priorities will be. Who cares about football. He's been serious about this, with 100% involvement.

So very happy for him, she's a catch and they seem genuinely happy.

What a woman. What a pair

I'm not joking, I must confess to a serious, serious crush on Ana, and Schweini is one of the few people, maybe the only one, whom I don't begrudge this real life fairy tale love story. He's one of the good guys.
And after all, she's now practically family Proud Heart

I am happy for you, man! Smile

And I am happy too for Schweini and Ana! However, I don't know if he'll ever be able to play football at the highest level and for me as a Man United fan, is a more important topic right now. He has his own family, that should be good for his mental state.

Meh. He was actually fantastic at the Euros. He is by far Man United's best midfielder. Should be asure starter under José tbh.

Not sure if you are joking or not (considering the opinions variation on this forum and the banter), but at the Euros I really liked him. Theoretically, he should have been the best midfielder at Man United, practically, he did play a lot last season but he wasn't in a good form. It's true that none of our midfielders played well.

In a team struggling to finish in top 4, best described by inconsistency, it's hard to be on form and shine. Martial, Rashford and Mata were the only remarkable performers last season for us. Smalling and De Gea were somehow favored by the circumstances.

To be more specific, it's easier to have stats on your side as a defender or GK at a team which has a horrible positional defense and collects many shots on target and crosses in the own box.

Schweini lost a lot of his agility, reactions, speed in the last two years but if he's played well, he can be providential. Form is for the moment, class is forever. But again, he wasn't our best midfielder last season.
