"Infekt" = a case of the want-to-stay-at-homes. -.-
Klose injured as well.

Well, still enough players going. But still, this won't be our first XI Sad

I'm totally not amused that Jogi Löw decided to let René Adler play against France instead of Manuel Neuer No

Okay, Adler is definitely not a bad one, but if Löw really wants to get the defense up and running, he should stick to a stable formation in the back. And now he starts not only to rotate the back four, but also the GK?! *shakes head*

BTW a mate of mine kept outdribbling me in Fifa with his stupid Spaniards, so I employed a counter-strategy of a massively bullying German squad, and I wanted to share Very Happy

It goes a bit like so:

------------------ Neuer
----------- Höwedes --- Badstuber
Bender -------- Hummels ----------- Bender
----- Piggy ------------------ Kroos/Khedira
----------- Reus ------ Götze
---------------- Gomez

Basically a 4-3-3 with the CF/ST moved a bit into the poacher-zone, and all the width provided by the wingbacks, which act pretty attacking, almost on the line with the CDM who covers the two CMs, while Hummels has proven to be most annoying to the opposition at the CDM position.

I just run anything into the ground with that setup, I alternate between pressing like Barca on speed, and sitting very deep, muscling attackers off the ball and initiating fast-as-balls counter-attacks. Since they can both easily run 120 minutes non-stop, my Bender-pincer(tm) ensures superiority of numbers in most areas of the pitch, though I tend not to crowd the opposing box, either have Reus/Götze dart in there, or cross/hoof to the ridiculously huge Gomez.

Works in FIFA. Razz
BTW works just as well with an even more robust setup of Podolski for Götze and Khedira for Kroos, leaving Reus as the least muscular German on the pitch.
And then you just pray your ref isn't Spanish Very Happy

Also Khedira + Badstuber + Hummels + Gomez + Höwedes = pure corner-kick fun. I just hoof it in high, and one of them will head it towards goal.

BTW it's even more of a 4-3-2-1 than a 4-3-3 because a 4-3-3 implies a width this does not have, Gomez plays as a ST, Reus/Götze somewhere between CAM and CF, but really more of auxiliary strikers than midfielders. Width is for the Benders, and Piggy/Kroos who both used to play as wingers way back and have decent defense. Admittedly Kroos' side lacks a bit in the defence department, but you can put Khedira there to remedy this.

What I love most about this, btw, is that whenever my strikers lose the ball, the opposing counter-attack is immedeatly stopped by the fact that Hummels and both Benders will press their defenders / DMs while Kroos/Piggy close down the space. I usually win back the ball immedeatly. I know this is hugely retarded, because I'm talking FIFA, but the theory of it applies to real football:

Move defensive-minded allrounders upward hte pitch and your pressing improves dramatically.

My goal would be to have a team staffed only with players who have keen eyes and instincts for timely interceptions, so the opposition gets instantly harassed without you needing to play a high line.

Kind of how Barca/Spain press, but way more physical, and intended to initiate counters, not just maintain possession, because f*ck possession.

Well, this definitely sounds like a viable idea. The only drawback is that Jogi Löw prolly has other ideas.

Hm... What about doing the coaching badges and then try to take over the German NT at the next possible time (2014 mayhap?) I think it would definitely be a worthwhile attempt ^^

Joachim Low has announced the squad for the upcoming Wolrd Cup 2014 qualifying matches on 22nd and 26th March 2013 against Kazakhstan.

GK: Manuel Neuer, Rene Adler and Ron-Robert Zieler
Defense: Jerome Boateng, Benedikt Howedes, Philipp Lahm, Per Mertesacker, Marcel Schmelzer and Heiko Westermann
MF: Lars Bender, Sven Bender, Julian Draxler, Mario Gotze, Ilkay Gundogan, Sami Khedira, Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil, Bastian Schweinsteiger
Attack: Mario Gomez, Lukas Podolski, Marco Reus, Thomas Muller and Andre Schurrle.

Considering what Löw said in his press-conference I'm expecting this team:

Neuer
Lahm Mertesacker Höwedes Schmelzer
Schweinsteiger Khedira
Müller Götze Podolski
Özil

Kroos and Bender brothers out for the upcoming internationals.

This leaves us with Gündogan as the only backup midfielder, doesn't it? Wonder who Löw will call up as a replacement, if anyone. Maybe Neustädter again? He has been less than impressive of late.

Ah, I just remembered Holtby. Still, Gündogan and Holtby as backups leaves us with zero defensive mids should anything happen to Khedira.
It's only Kasakhstan, but still.

Who to call up? Neustädter? Maybe even Rode? Or just call Emre Can early? Very Happy Would lock him to the DFB, I always like that.

I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting options, but I can't seem to remember who we still have. Surely Löw is not calling up someone in the age bracket of Rolfes or Kehl despite them having caps.

Löw likes to have continuity in his call ups, so I'm expecting Neustädter to be called up despite being out of form. Maybe Holtby for Kroos aswell. Rode would be cool and my favourite, he might not play but it would be good for him to see that he's appreciated for his fine form this season so far.

TBH I didn't even check whether Holtby was called up anyway. But he's an obvious choice, but he's also more the playmaking type. Rode and Neustädter are the only ones who are decent at desructive play, and Rode has never been called up, so probably Neustädter, right?

@Likeastar: I'm not concerned with the starting lineup, none of the players that aren't coming are starters. Well none of the recent ones. Of course Badstuber, Hummels, and Klose would start.

I expect Mertesacker to start over Höwedes btw, and Reus at LM instead of Götze, with Gomez starting.

Hm. looks like the German NT is somewhat depleted for the matches... I'd really hope that Jogi Löw will call up some of the above mentioned fresh prospects - plus Stefan Kießling for good measure!

He hates (well, not hate, but you know) Kießling, I wonder if there was an issue off the pitch at some time? He's been ostracized so hard, he might confuse himself with Kuranyi.

That being said, Draxler is perfectly fit and could stand in for Reus if Götze doesn't. Our first XI still looks pretty good, but those are some blows.

In the mid term Germany is playing with a false 9 - no decent strikers coming through whatsoever.

I wonder if that "no strikers coming through" is a bit the consequence of the way strikers are often ostracized by Löw? hmm

Tasty, especially since Piggy and Kroos used to be wingers. Could provide the width a 4-3-3 can lack if all forwards tend to gravitate towards the center.

Well its actually kind of a 4-3-3 but with Gotze and Ozil both central, but they both lile to pish out wide anyways so theyd provide the width, and when they play central one of Schweini or Kroos can overlap. I think it would be excellent.

There's a press conference in 15 minutes with Per Mertesacker, Mario Götze and "Hansi" Flick.

We might get some recent team news
