This kid is smart. He figured out the Mou game already, kiss ass in the press regularly, and your life will be awesome with Mou.

After the France NT game tonight, he was asked if Mou was watching this game and if he is going to get some playing time at Madrid.

He answered that he didn't know about Mou watching... regarding playing time, it's not an issue right now as he's learning. But finished by saying "Talk to me about playing time in November of next year and i'll have a lot more to say".

shoudlnt be any controversy, specially at this point when hes 18 and at the worlds biggest club, hed have to have no brains to think hed get tons of minutes, im sure he will have minutes in copa del rey, and end of la liga if we close it up soon.

He's not worried at all about this year. He didn't expect to play much. Next year though, different story.... he just hinted at the second year. I don't think he expects to start next year. But if i were in his shoes, i would be looking for a certain number of games and see what the path to being a future regular is. If Pepe and Ramos are set for the next 3 years minimum, which is how i see it, i expect Varane to ask for a move by the end of next year. He's targeting being on the France NT for the 2014 WC.

It's early to make those predictions, but with 3 CBs, we can have plenty of rotation. Specially when our players arent play time hungry whores.

With Carvalho extended and Pepe + Ramos getting the majority of minutes... not to mention Albiol... i'm not very optimistic here. Varane is kind of buried. Like i said, Mangala is ahead of him now, not to mention Rami, Mexes, Sakho and Koscielny. His goal is WC 2014. He needs to be a starter at club come the 2013-2014 season to have a chance.

Varane is far from buried, i think they are expecting Albiol to take his talents elsewhere, he barely plays.

Carvalho is kind of your ideal back up, not too old enough to play, but experienced enough not to moan about play time.

carvalho is on his way out of the game, and albiol is a question mark for me... varane is still young and he must have patience, it will be up to mou to have faith in varane's abilities, and give him proper time to develop. i think it would be really good if he was given some time in the copa del rey, ending la liga games, and same next year with even more participation, but who knows. i wouldnt expect an 18 year old to be above guys like mexes etc, of course he has and wants to reach the top but all in due time. mou and zidane knows this and i hope they do their best to give varane the best chances of success.

agree with this.

I don't understand his personal ambitions really. Sports, you're telling me that he wants to be a starter in one of the biggest national teams in the world at a world cup at the age of 20-21? At centre-back no less!? I'm sorry but the boy is delusional. He is prime at the moment for Copa del Rey and a couple of la liga games here and there. Also I would say that he is held as a better CB by Mou than Albiol- but Mou obviously realises the tricky situation in pushing him up the pecking order.

As it stands right now. I would rank the best two CB's as Pepe and Ramos, Carvalho to fill in if one of them are absent and Varane the 2nd choice sub. Albilol can GTFO, opinion hasn't changed there.

To me, what is so wrong with being 18 years old and behind two of the world's top 10 defenders (Ramos and Pepe) and a CB legend of the 21st century (Carvalho)? If he is feeling an itch to leave already, he should just calm the f down because that would be the silliest move of his life.

Not starter... Just wants to make the team. If sakho, mangala and rami establish themselves (all very young) in the next 2 years, he's going to have a very hard time breaking in...

Didn't notice. He needs to play stronger though. That's the weakness for him right now... must work on getting more physical.

IMO, with Pepe, Ramos and Varane rotating we can totally keep that up long term. Starting from next year maybe.

Its good that Mou keeps saying this stuff about Rafa. He never said the same about Canales, which just shows the difference in attitude. As I said, with Pepe, Ramos and Varane, we have good CBs for a long time.

He's already made his league debut and scored already, but Mourinho doesn't want to break the Ramos Pepe partnership anytime soon, but I see him as first choice replacement of any of the two ahead of Raul Abiol.
