Pepe seems like he's going to be sold as Madrid are on Otamendi apparently... Pepe has his contract coming up and Madrid are stalling on it. Age is an issue for what he wants.

Varane has gotten assurance that he will get the first shot at starting to begin the season according to pretty good sources....  if he fails or gets benched, he'll ask to leave.  So this year is it for him and Madrid.

The Otamendi thing is mostly a response to Ramos' agent threats

A couple of pieces of news... one a bit older and one today:

The newer one is that Varane is listening to offers from City, Bayern and Man U so far.

http://www.le10sport.com/football/mercato/exclu-mercato-real-madrid-manchester-united-pret-a-degainer-sur-varane-236882

The older news is that he said he wants to start every game, the manager is aware of it, but he won't worry about it until after the season.

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-united-transfer-news-varane-11089731

"I would like to play every game," Varane told L'Equipe. "The coach knows what I want, but it’s up to him to make the decisions.

"I’ve spent five years playing with the best and I’ve never lost heart. without strength of character it’s impossible to stay at Real Madrid.

"It’s pointless making long-term plans in football. I’m happy in Madrid. I want to keep improving to go to the next level. We’ll see how my situation develops, but I’m not having any headaches over it anyway."

Varane needs to step it up, he's clearly better than Ramos but Ramos plays because he is our captain and Spaniard, he competes with Pepe and to me Pepe has done better than him, he needs to be calm, Pepe will satisfied being the 3rd. CB, Raphael Would eventually start every single game and will have the chance to become our captain, that's a chance he shouldn't pass on, it's not like he plays few matches.

This is the third year in a row that Sports starts these stories. He had the starters job at beginning of season and lost it on his own. The fact is we have three CBs capable of starting and noone is guaranteed starter status. He has to go to training camp and win the job. He's capable of it, but he has to show it on the field and play these political manovers. .... Or is he, maybe it's just another Sports' agenda!

Horrible game. Gifted them a goal with stupid clearance and managed to look worse than Ramos if that was possible.

If he needs the starting spot he needs to perform better than the starters. Merely being on the same level will not cut it.

Is it me or he doesn't seem to be calm on the ball this season? He always passes the ball back to GK when an opposition player puts him under pressure, when he was younger he used to bring the ball forward with ease.

I thought i was the only one who noticed that. He is just having a bad year. He should take over from Pepe next season so should get a consistent run of games to get into form

You can't get into rhythm if you are injured and then you don't play in the big games or regularly...  i think he's just bored of his role and really isn't getting up for the la liga fodder.   That's why I posted the rumor now (it's been ongoing for a while).  He's just not happy with his role at all and he's mentally not very sharp as a result.

As with Benz 3 years back, it's reached a breaking point with Varane now. Either the path is cleared for him or he will ask to move. Not saying we should acquiesce... but a decision needs to happen.

Madrid doesn't get in the way if a player asks to leave.  So really, it's about whether we move Ramos, Pepe or Varane.  Neither of them will accept a secondary role.  Varane is no longer a kid and he knows it.

Carlo, Pep and likely Mou (if he goes to Man U) are on him.

Its a tough decision. Pepe is reliable in the biggest games.
Ramos is the captain and is spanish

He has had a poor season it's contradictory though Rafa trusted more in him than Zidane tbf with Zidane, Pepe is more reliable in big games

I think Varane should be more aggressive IMHO he's too soft and he's being overconfident and as stated above his passing has gone shit this season

Z, the same guy who brought him here, is benching him for Pepe. You can't blame anybody but him. And it's not like Varane is helping his case either. This is by far his worst season in a Real Madrid shirt. You can't play like that and think you're in a position to "demand" something from the club.

If he wants to leave, please be my guest. I only want true professionals at Real Madrid. The last thing I want is for players to bully their way into a starting role. Earn it or ride the bench.

Besides, I'm almost 100% sure he won't leave. This is just sports' inner demons talking. Nothing to see here.

Re: Raphael Varane

Remember when Pepe and Ramos were absolute garbage and Varane was our most solid defender for the season?  That was March.  He was a starter.  He got injured during international break and Pepe-Ramos got it going... he came back and was told that Madrid were going with the hot pairing.

That's his problem.  He lost his job due to injury.

In any case, this won't be a story until the summer... then it will become a major story.  You can quote me on this later.  Just like when everyone ridiculed me for saying one of Benzema or Higuain would be sold and Higuain asked to leave.  It's inevitable. Unlike that one where I had 3rd or 4th hand info... this one is 2nd hand info. Madrid are well aware of the situation.

Did you say the same thing with Higuain?
