In case one is wondering, like I did, what the other Guest is talking about...
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jun/19/luka-modric-five-years-prison-suspected-perjury-real-madrid
The Guardian UK wrote:Croatian prosecutors have launched an investigation into suspected perjury against the Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric on suspicion of him giving false testimony in a criminal trial about his financial deals with a former Dinamo Zagreb director charged with embezzlement and tax fraud.
If charged and found guilty, he could face up to five years in prison. Modric testified last week at the trial of a tax official and three former senior officials from Dinamo Zagreb, including its former chief executive, Zdravko Mamic. Mamic is considered one of the most powerful people in Croatian football with a substantial political influence.
The state attorney’s office in the eastern city of Osijek, which is running the investigation of the false testimony, did not name Modric, as is standard procedure in Croatia. But the state attorney’s office referred to a 32-year-old Croatian who testified last week, a description that fits Modric and no one else. Local media, including state radio and television, identified Modric as the investigation’s target.
Modric testified as a witness at the trial of Dinamo officials on charges that they avoided paying 12.2m Kuna (£1.44m) in taxes and that they diverted 116 million Kuna (£13.7m) from the club, anti-corruption police said.“The witness falsely said that on 10 July, 2004, the date when he signed his first professional contract, he also signed an annex on the basis of which he had acquired a right to a 50:50 share in transfer fees,” the state attorney said in a statement. The attorney also said Modric falsely claimed he had signed such an annex every time he extended his contract.
Two years ago Modric testified to anti-corruption investigators that he had signed an annex to his contract at a later point, when he had already joined a foreign club, according to the state attorney.Modric moved to Tottenham from Dinamo Zagreb in 2008.
He joined Real Madrid in 2012.All three former Dinamo officials, who also include the former coach Zoran Mamic and the club’s former executive and current senior official of the Croatian Football Federation, Damir Vrbanovic, deny the charges.

For reasons only known to God, decided to watch over both legs of the Super Cup and dear Lord, Modric is really a fantastic midfielder, would like to think best in the world but I'll go with the "one of". Don't think I've seen a player currently use the outside of his foot so accurately.
To think Jose had this ridiculously good footballer rotting on a bench for whatever reason during his tenure and only used him because he had no other choice. Even got the worst signing of the season tag too.

To be fair, when he came, he was putrid, especially because Josie had a misguided notion that he was an Ozil type of AM.
That said, as you've pointed out, he's easily one of the best.

Re: Mr Agile - Luka Modric
Well he didn't defend at all when he came to Madrid. That was Mou's issue with him. He fixed that in a big way where he's now more than serviceable.
I think Mou's tough love has, more often than not, helped the players involved.

The best.
Him and Kroos are in the top 3 best midfielders in the game at the moment .
I'd put Pogba as the third. Can't even think of anyone close to them three.

It was more interesting to see the RealMadridistas forum in this regard.vanDEEZ wrote:It's quite interesting to read the first few pages of this thread.
Anyone who was there would know I was against Modric from the moment we were linked to him. at the time I thought he was an overrated EPL punk that only looked good because in the EPL donkeys like bale look good.
Took 3-4 months before the Decima for me to turn around about him. Even apologized to Tototo both in a post and on pm for having my doubts on him.
Very funny to think about it now. That the moron in midfield back then would become one of the best players in the world and the best in his position alongside Kroos. I was wrong about Modric and I couldn't have been happier to be wrong about a player. Even asked tototo to give me an avatar to show my shame for doubting him but she was nice enough to let me off the hook lol.
Now he is a proper Real Madrid Legend. and still remains a key man of our glorious midfield. Time sure flies.

Build this former expected flop a statue. One of the best midfielders of all time. The catalyst behind our legendary run in Europe and our best player on the pitch.

Re: Mr Agile - Luka Modric
So Modric is 33 years old. He'll be 34 at the start of next season.
It's obvious that he is not going to be starting next season.
Who does real madrid have to replace him?
I would like to see either Valverde or Odegaard in his position.
James can also fit the profile.

Re: Mr Agile - Luka Modric
lol, if he is at the club he is starting, if he leaves to Inter the club would like to sign Eriksen with a year left on his deal. If not it's not unlikely that James assumes that role. valverde or odegaard are no where near good enough to start for us.

Re: Mr Agile - Luka Modric
I would say, at this point Ceballos is the heir appointed and if not him, it's Isco (if he gets out of dog house).
Odegaard, if he comes back is competing against Vinicius, Rodrygo, Asensio and Lucas for a backup forward spot. James too, if he comes back, but his issue will be also the import ratio.
Valverde will likely be on squad, but in a backup role.
But as Nick says, who says Modric won't be back!!!

Re: Mr Agile - Luka Modric
Odegaard won't ever play CM, he's an attacking midfielder. Thing with Valverde is that he should be loaned out if he's not going to be given good playing time next season for one reason or the other. If James comes that's only more reason for Odegaard not to come yet, and with all those numerous options, Perez may pass on Hazard.
Also, Isco and Ceballos are attacking midfielders, we need physical peeps in midfield. Years ago i used to have the pipe dream that Isco could play as an interior, i'm done with that delusion. Not ideal even if we did have a good tiki taka system. We'd do good to let both of them go imo.

Re: Mr Agile - Luka Modric
Ceballos is more a CM like Zidane in terms of style (his idol btw). He's a pace setter that transitions the ball to the attacking players, including the AM.
In a perfect world, you'd have Casemiro as the DM, Ceballos as a CM and a proper AM (like Ozil in his prime for example). Of course, then the front 3 can't be all strikers. you'd need a winger who tracks back to help (like Vasquez).
I like managers who stop looking at names but see how the pieces fit together.
My ideal world post winter setup:
Courtois
Carvajal-Varane-Ramos-Marcelo
Casemiro-Ceballos
Eriksen-Vinicius (give the kid a chance; Vasquez is always there in case)
Icardi

Re: Mr Agile - Luka Modric
There is an article out today saying Isco issue is more a question of fitness. May be true or not, but I wouldn’t assume Isco is out, at least for now.
I say that in regards to Sports’ desired lineup, thinking of Isco in the spot you showed Eriksen.
I also think the 2nd half of this season will be auditions for several players re next year possibilities. That list includes Isco, Asensio, Vinicius, Ceballos, Llorente, Odriozola, Reguilion, Valverde, plus whoever comes in January!

Re: Mr Agile - Luka Modric
Speaking of Eriksen, I really hope the club is following him closely and not some teenager playing in the Brazilian league. His contract expires next year with Tottenham if I'm not mistaken.
Madrid should fight tooth and nail for his signature. The team has only a few WC players left and the squad is looking more and more like a midtable team with every passing day.
