Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Thanks! The table looks slightly more agreeable than during the end of Mario Basler's reign, too. (see 3rd post in this thread)

Saw a story about RWO on FIFA Futbol Mundial the other day. They had an interview with a former player that was once top scorer of the Bundesliga.

Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Coolness! That has to have been Lothar Kobluhn then. He scored 24 goals in the 1970/71 season, but never got his "Torjägerkanone" (the prize for best goal scorer in a season that is awarded by the kicker Magazine) until 2007. The reason for the late awarding was that in 1970/71, RWO was sadly involved in the Bundesliga scandal (the coach and one official tried to bribe other clubs to lose against RWO as we were so bad - the players had no idea about the bribes, but I guess that was because no matter what others would have tried, they wouldn't have been able to play better, and there was no need to pay them to play worse - we were relegation fodder in that season XD) and people had other problems than the best goal scorer award...Forza Rossoneri wrote:Saw a story about RWO on FIFA Futbol Mundial the other day. Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Currently the High Performance Centre of the RWO (RWO-Leistungszentrum), the local football youth academy, is undergoing it's second examination after it was founded in 2010. Currently there are 44 DFB-certified Leistungszentren in Germany, and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen is one of only 5 Regionalliga-Clubs (4th division clubs) in Germany that own such a youth academy. This shows in the performance of the RWO youth teams. While the seniors look rather dismal in the 4th division, the RWO U17 plays in the U17-Bundesliga and the RWO U23 just got promoted to the senior Oberliga Niederrhein (5th division).

Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Somehow the weather is not nice to RWO at all. Due to a high snow cover on the pitch, the match RWO vs SC Wiedenbrück 2000 had to be canceled. Last week, the away match SSVg Velbert vs Rot-Weiß Oberhausen couldn't take place either.
On very short notice, RWO decided to do a training match vs RWE yesterday (they didn't announce it at all as there was no chance to separate the fan groups on the training pitch in Essen and RWO vs RWE normally is a hotly contested derby), and this ended 1:1.
Hopefully next week we will be able to play again when we have to play away against SC Verl.

Dear me. Again no match for RWO. In Verl the pitch is covered with thick snow and thus unplayable. Let's hope for the next week then...

Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Finally - RWO is back in action! This evening we had to take on Regionalliga West "Superpower" Viktoria Köln in our legendary Niederrheinstadion.
RWO: Krol; Caspari, Haas, Nowak, Steuke; Landers, Weigelt, Bauder, Mützel; Talarski, Terranova
Viktoria Köln: Poremba; Pusic, Kukielka, Tschumakow, Müller; Sinkala, Voigt; Glowacz, Wunderlich, Dahmani; Bouhaddouz
And we did it! RWO won the first match after the winter break with a convincing 2:0 against RL West 2nd ranked Viktoria Köln.

Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Yay! We are comeback kings! After 1.FC Köln II went up 2:0 (first goal was by a guy with the name "Musculus" XD), coach Kunkel obviously subjected our guys to a classical hairdryer treatment. When we got back onto the pitch after the break, we scored 3 goals and turned the match.

W00t! Third match in 2013, and third win, two of them even with a clean sheet!
Thorben Krol, 19, the youngest of the RWO keepers is the current Nr.1. He's an RWO youth academy product and was promoted from U19 to U23 and now the senior team.

Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Well, we need to stay in the 4th division (Regionalliga-West) in the current season as another relegation would mean the end of RWO. Right now we are 9th, so that target is definitely reachable.
For the next season, our president already gave out the marching orders that we should get promoted to the 3rd Liga again. As the team is currently starting to gel after we lost all but 3 players after last season's relegation from 3rd to 4th division, things definitely are looking up again.
Our main problem in the beginning of this season was that we had many serious and long-term injuries. At times the coach had only 4 players on the bench, which didn't make things easier. By now we got quite some former U23 players promoted and got some more young players from the 2nd teams of clubs from the neighbourhood. One of the most promising strikers, 19-year old Pascale Talarski, was rejected by MSV II as not being good enough, but at RWO he feels absolutely well and comfortable, and so he scored 2 goals plus one assist in the last 3 matches.

Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Well, we were in the BL in the 1970es, but ever since we wandered between the 2nd and 4th division. I think I'd be content if we'd get back into the 2nd Bundesliga. A promotion to the Bundesliga proper would be much to costly, as the DFL demands a lot of expensive infrastructure updates that we definitely couldn't afford.
You know, one of our most famous mottos is "Wir haben alles außer Kohle" (we have everything but money/coal" (the latter is a pun that shall remind of the fact that Oberhausen once was a big coal mining location, but with the loss of the coal mining and steel industry here, we have neither coal nor money anymore )

Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Indeed. For the next match we have to meet Köln for the 3rd time within 3 weeks. Next week our hosts will be Fortuna Köln for a change (after FC Viktoria Köln and 1.FC Köln II), but that's the last we see of Köln in this season. XD
Fortuna Köln are currently standing 3rd in the Regionalliga West, but this is actually is good for us as RWO is not known to excel in making the play - we are pretty good on the break, though, so playing against a strong team usually comes easier to us than playing against a weaker or equal team.

Yay, us! 4th win in a row! Fortuna Köln - RWO was canceled due to bad pitch conditions in Cologne, but tonight we won in Verl 2:0. Terra scored again, our immortal football god!

Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
I am not amused. Today we lost 1:3 against SC Wiedenbrück. Admittedly, RWO was down 0:1 after some shambolic defending in the 76th minute, but *three* foul penalties in the last 3 minutes (!!) of the match were somewhat of a joke
The goals: 0:1 Okumak (76.), 0:2 Okumak (PK, 87.), 1:2 Bauder (PK, 90.), 1:3 Okumak (PK, 90.)

Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Okay, after a slight dip in form with some really unnecessary defeats and really dismal showings, today was looking a bit brighter again.
VfB Hüls 1:3 RW Oberhausen
So we're in the upper midfield atm, meaning it is practically assured that we keep the division this season, just as was the marching order. And next season the project "promotion" will be set in motion again!

Re: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen
Totally forgot to post this on Wednesday:
RWO did what RWO does best again - annoy the top clubs of our division and won 1:0 against Sportfreunde Lotte who were undefeated for the last 24 games in a row. Yay us!
And this means - we can't be relegated anymore!!
Now if our boys would manage to do that with the lower end and middle of the table teams, too, we'd be all set. But unfortunately our big problem is - we can't 'make the play'. If a bigger team does this, we can nicely counter them and get points, but of course this set up fails miserably when we meet another team that mainly waits for a counter, too...

Yeah Well, and the next season we will attack again. We "only" need to win the RL-West and then get into the play-offs where the 3 teams to be promoted are determined, and then we'd be back in the 3rd Liga. ^^

Well, RWO is a so-called "elevator team" - we went up from 4th to 2nd (and then down again to 4th) before, so we should be able to do it again

Well, there are some teams in Germany that constantly switch between divisions and for these the term "Fahrstuhlmannschaft" (=elevator/lift team) was created
