Liverpool FC player Daniel AggerDANIEL AGGER is on the verge of signing a new long-term contract with Liverpool FC.
The Danish defender was the subject of interest from champions Manchester City back in the summer but the Reds rejected their advances as boss Brendan Rodgers was determined to keep him at Anfield.
Agger's current deal expires in 2014 but talks over an extension, which began last month, are now nearing completion.
The 27-year-old, who was signed from Brondby back in January 2006, revealed to the ECHO that he's currently playing with a minor fracture in his knee.
“Daniel's a real warrior,” said Rodgers. “He's got a little bit of pain in there but he played in the game at Norwich last weekend and did very well.
“I am very fortunate here that I have got a group that has that real warrior mentality and he is one of those guys.”
Teenager Suso, who made his first Premier League start last weekend, will also soon put pen to paper on a new contract. The Spaniard's current deal expires next summer.

Good to see us acting quickly to tie Agger to a new contract. Was fearing Barca would come for him and sign him cheap with just one year left come summer.

Re: Agger and Suso on the verge of signing new contracts
Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has ended speculation surrounding his future by signing a new long-term contract at Anfield.
The Dane, who was signed by Rafael Benitez from Brondby in 2006, committed his future to the Reds on Friday morning.
After signing, Agger told the club’s official website: "It means everything to me. This is where I want to be and I'm happy the club want me. I am really happy right now. I've never wanted to go anywhere else.
"I feel I am a part of this club - and I want to be a part of this club in the future.
"I like the way it is going right now with the style we're playing, and hopefully the results will come soon as well.
"The support from the fans has been unbelievable. The game when they were singing all the songs about me, it was difficult to focus on the game!
"It was such a good experience for me and I'd never experienced anything like it before. That is why I am so happy here. That for me is Liverpool Football Club.
"I feel I belong here and as long as the manager and the owners want me, I'll be here."
Reds managing director Ian Ayre also expressed delight that the Denmark international would be adding to his 177 appearances for the Merseyside club.
He said: "Daniel's contribution since joining the club in 2006 has been absolutely fantastic and his loyalty to the team is recognised by the deal he has signed today.
"Daniel always made it clear he wanted to stay at Liverpool and we're delighted that he's committed his future to the club.
"We brought in some very exciting players this summer - some of whom chose Liverpool over clubs in the Champions League.
"But it's equally important to retain your most important players and the fact that Daniel has now followed Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel and Jonjo Shelvey in signing a new contract is testament to the fact that the players believe in what we're trying to achieve here under Brendan Rodgers."

TOP NEWS. Agger absolutely deserves this contract. Can anyone tell me what the terms of the contract were? How long and how much?

Agger.
It's four years Messiah. No idea on how much. I'd estimate about 80.

Re: Agger and Suso on the verge of signing new contracts
Liverpool have today confirmed Suso has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The 18-year-old committed his future to the Reds by putting pen to paper on the deal at Melwood.
Moments after signing the contract, Suso told Liverpoolfc.com: "I am really happy. Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world and this is the right place for me.
"I am happy Brendan has shown trust in me. I had no questions about signing a new deal and I am really glad to have done so.
"I am comfortable here. I have played some games for the first team and I hope to continue doing that, but I need to work hard every day for that to happen.
"This is one of the best days of my life."
Suso joined Liverpool from hometown club Cadiz in 2010.
The Spaniard impressed at both youth and reserve-team levels before being handed his senior debut in the Europa League victory over Young Boys in September.
He has since gone on to make four more appearances for the first team, winning plenty of praise for his mature displays in the process.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers said: "We are all delighted Suso has committed his long-term future to Liverpool Football Club.
"At 18, he has demonstrated outstanding technical qualities but also shown very good temperament to play for such a prestigious club.
"His commitment is very good news for all our young Academy players and the excellent work taken place by the Academy coaches and staff."

So far that's Agger, Skrtel, Suso and Shelvey all signing new deals under Rodgers. Have I missed anyone?
Also, does Sterling have to be 18 before he signs the new deal? It's the only reason I can come up with us stalling the decision.
