Spurs played an ineligible player and backed out to save face.
Liverpool's reserves outplayed then in any case (more possession, shots, sog, corners, chances, etc), but spurned too many chances.

Would be about time to produce a first-team star from our academy, if you don't mind me saying.

After Gerrard & Carragher we have Kelly. So many fell by the way-side. Likes of Pacheco, Ayala only gave heart-aches. Really it's high time we start having some graduates from the academy.
Hope the likes of Rahim, Suso, Cody don't flatter to deceive.

U-18 beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 with an hour gone. We are playing some great stuff and creating lots of chances. Morgan with a goal and two assists.

Re: Youth and Reserve Thread
We need to start giving our academy players game time. Messi and Ronaldo were thrusted into action at around 17/18 and look at how they turned out.
Gerrard was given his debut at 18 and at 19 he had already established himself next to Jaime Redknapp. Owen was given his debut as a 17 year old and at 18 he scored 23 goals for us in all competitions. Carragher likewise.
I don't know why were so afraid to give youngsters a chance. Sterling is 17 and turning 18 this year. Morgan is 17 turning 18 in a month. Coady is already 19. Suso is turning 19 this year. I don't mean start the kids regularly but atleast give them a run of games.
We need width and scoring from the wing, well give Sterling a chance there. Morgan has been on fire for over a year for the academy, give him a shot up top. Adam has been piss poor, why not give Coady a shot.
I hope most of these kids make it, it would break my heart to see another Pacheco type talent waste.

Agreed! ! i really would love to see the likes of Sterling, Morgan & Co. given some try outs to see how they come about in the big league. .18/19 is pretty much about time!
Morgan & Sterling should be given some chances specially seeing how those areas in our 1st team are struggling the most!

Liverpool youngsters are being thrashed by the Ajax youngsters. How are you guys feeling about that? Seems like an easy win of that trophy now, I don't rate the Inter and Marseille youth ranks.

Re: Youth and Reserve Thread
Liverpool team: Ward, McLaughlin, McGiveron, Sama, Wisdom, Coady, Sterling, Roddan (Morgan 60), Ngoo, Adorjan, Sterling.
Unused subs: Belford, Dunn, Ibe, Regan.
Final score was 6-0, but that's more than flattering to Ajax. The Liverpool team controlled possession and had more chances up until Ajax scored the 4th, they simply failed to take their chances (a problem the entire club is having, it seems). Suso missed a penalty early on and Sterling (I think) hit the post. They also had at least two legit penalty calls not given by the referee. Story of the season for Liverpool.

Why would you say that? Thrashing the other team isn't the same as having most of the possesion and creating chances. Obviously Liverpool was the better side in the first half, but if you don't score and the other team is very effective and scores 6(!) goals, you're simply torn a new one. In other words, thrashed.

Shelvey, Sterling and Coates need to continue to play regularly. They're going to massive. Remember having a thread on Jonjo on the goal.com forums and he really does deserve it. He's the only current midfielder bar Gerrard that takes a risk and always wants to go forward.
I'd say Flanagan also, but Johnson and Kelly are both superior. He's quite lucky the other two are 'injury prone' or he'd be loaned out.

Gerardo Bruna was sold to Blackpool in the summer.
Suso is training with the first team and playing for the reserves, as he has been all season.

What happened to that supposed 'New Deco' we signed in January? Haven't heard anything since we agreed to sign him.

Re: Youth and Reserve Thread
Liverpool have signed highly rated Crewe Alexandra youngster Dan Smith for a fee in the region of £300,000.
Midfielder Smith, 16, had been poised to move to Manchester City, only for the move to fall through last month.
The fee for Smith, who is yet to appear for Alex, will rise depending on first-team appearances for the Reds.

Kenny wrote:"I think it's been fantastic and it's a great credit to the changes that Rafa made three years ago, bringing in Pep, Rodolfo and Frankie," the gaffer told LFC TV after helping to welcome 22 new under-8 players to the Academy on Thursday.
"The way it has moved forward is a credit to anyone who has helped in any way, shape or form.
"It was Rafa who brought these people in and we should always be grateful to him for doing that.
"In years to come, if we get some players through it, I'm sure he'll be just as proud as any of the players are. And he should be proud about what he's set up here."

Comolli's legacy. lol.
Suarez apparently has a picture up on twitter with the 4 youngsters and Coates. I don't have twitter, so not too sure if it's true.
