The official Lucas Moura thread LucasMoura_zps2f306451

Front page of l'Equipe and 2 full pages on page 2 and 3 dedicated to him. State that the expectation is for him to become PSG's Messi and that everyone other than Ibra is in danger to get replaced by him this coming term.

Too much on the kid. He's only 21, moving to a new team and a new league. They need to allow him a learning curve.

But i think he'll handle it fine. Nice kid and has learned French. He's supposed to try and give a press conference in French when he lands in Paris. Very humble-sounding as well. He's not a prima dona like Pastore who is easy to dislike.

The PSG hype is going insane.

He could very well be the next Pastore.

Nah... he's nothing like Pastore. The only thing i was comparing is Pastore's shatty demeanor compared to Lucas' likeable one. Pastore'e issue is work ethic and attitude, not talent. Lucas Moura's only issue is experience... he's an extremely hard worker and an apparently good person.

Being good is as much about mentality as it is talent.

Hes going to have alot of pressure playing with the pricetag of his. Hes got all the tools technically to succeed, no idea he is going cope mentally. Easily could become a flop imo.

He's not going to start right away, which is good. As long as PSG win, there won't be too much of a problem this year. The real expectations start next season for Lucas imo.

L'Equipe gets paid a lot of money by PSG to hype the team and its players.

This amount of pressure is not good, specially when he is being compared to Rai and now Messi. He is receiving pressure only someone like Neymar should be getting, but its something expected due to the amount of money PSG paid.....I expect him to succeed though, the squad is full of Brazilians and Italians,Carlo is a coach that will know how to use him .I just hope Ibra doesn't become a problem.

Surprised he's not being compared to the coming of Ronaldinho at PSG because that's more accurate in terms of when Dinho came to PSG... Very similar. Ronaldinho went to PSG at the age of 21 after scoring 72 goals in 145 games at Gremio.

Lucas Moura joins PSG at 21 after 128 games at Sao Paolo with 33 goals.

Dinho is more of a scorer and central player while Lucas is more winger. But both came with similar reps: devastating speed and technique.

With a price-tag like his, he was always going to be under an immense amount of pressure. Can't think of one footballer that went for that type of money who didn't feel like Atlas.

It's all about how a player deals with that pressure though, it either breaks you (Pastore) or you break it (Ibra)....Lucas' tender age is both a help and hindrance in this regard.

I have zero opinion of him right now as a player since I have not seen enough of him. He seems immensely talented though, going by word of mouth, so I wish him all the best.

Expectations correlate to the amount of cash paid, which can be fortunate or unfortunate. Given the money spent here and the hype surrounding him, it's WC within 2 years or bust. That's what Pastore is facing too...

Indeed. Not disputing that at all. Conversely though, there have been many players who were bought for a huge amount of cash who didn't perform as well.

I'm just illustrating that he really can go either way right now, despite his good intentions. By learning French even before setting foot on French soil, I think that bodes quite well for him honestly. Shows a willingness to immerse himself as quickly as possible into the French culture. Players who do things like that have usually succeeded at their clubs where player who failed to do that, don't.

So if we go by something like that, it looks good for Lucas. Still not set in stone though. We'll see how he adapts to Carletto's system in the coming first 3 or 4 games of this 2nd half.

Did Menez learn Italian btw? I seriously do not like this dude. He acts like CR7 without the cred. He's second on my least liked PSG players... distant second to Pastore who is just a complete disaster in every sense lol. Pastore has the attitude of CR7, the brain of Di Maria and the work ethic of Menez... lovely combo.

Fred scored like 50 goals in 40 matchs before we bought him.

He never developped into a world class talents. The transition between the Brazilian championship and the Europeans leagues are not that easy.

As far as PSG signings go, there's Rai, Leonardo, Ronaldinho, etc. They all starred despite being new.

Key is to sign based on raw talent before productivity.

Rai first season was shit and PSG fans wanted to drop him I remember. On his second season he started to play well.

Anyway, past exemples show that a good brazilian footballer is not guaranteed to be one of the next star (Fred, Robinho, Adriano etc...)

Actually no. Valdo, another Brazilian who played well for PSG, was just preferred to a young Rai his first year. He took over and became the star and eventually captain of PSG in his second year.

Rai was a beast for PSG and played the number 10 role. They won 6 domestic trophies in his 5 years (1993-1998), 1 Europa... and also made it to the finals of another Europa.

He was the key piece during PSG's golden years.

Yeah not only did he learn Italian, but he actually spoke the Roman dialect as well. I didn't like him much during the end of Ranieri's tenure and into Montella's, but I did respect him for doing that much.

You know it quite saddens me that PSG is financing(?) L'equipe to essentially promote and hype their players when its the complete opposite of what should be done. It brought unnecessary pressure on Menez, to Thiago Silva (who adjusted eventually in short time), and of course the best example Javier Pastore. Not everyone is Zlatan who embraces pressure and thrives upon it. Verrati? He was lucky to come from a second division league whilst being protected well by Carletto hence his sheer confidence in games.

I have followed Lucas intermittently as he is a world class talent. While I agree with Sports that his excellent mentality, work ethic and character will help him avoid the Pastore route, it can take a certain toll to his young, nascent and possibly fragile mentality. This is especially the case when you are coming to France, in a heavily tactical and defensively organized league which is quite different to Brasilerao.

There is Carletto who is the master of shielding youngsters and helping them develop but then there is also Ibrahimovic. Despite the common conception Ibra is the best thing to happen to the youngster who he is tough on. Pato exception aside (due to Pato's somewhat inflated ego) Ibra is also responsible in making SES into what he is as despite SES's complaints he admitted that himself on twitter. Ibra has done the same with John Guidetti for Sweden, and will be on his way to do the same for Lucas. His incessant shouting at players is simply for motivation as see him in training, events or even on the football pitch. He is a general, commanding leader and many of the player embrace that fact about him. Given that he also has mellowed down and taken leadership roles in the past 3-4 years, having Ibra in PSG will be the best thing for Lucas.
