Diego is a great keeper, but Casillas is an icon. He is Madrid.
... BUT let's say when Casillas recovers as long as Mourinho is coach I doubt he will start Casillas right away.
It will take something on Diego's part to give that spot right back to Iker.

if only he saved that goal, 3-0 sounds much better than 3-1 for some reason

I think he should start over Casillas unless Casillas shows his old form.

Lopez has definitely shown he is no pushover and deserves to start over Iker if Iker's form this season is anything to go by.

Re: Diego López

Post by Onyx on Sun Mar 31, 2013 1:22 pm

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho says Iker Casillas could find it hard to displace Diego Lopez upon his comeback from injury.

The winter arrival, signed in response to Casillas' bone fracture in January, has surpassed expectations in the skipper's absence, putting in a series of assured performances for the club.

And Mourinho's acknowledgement of Lopez's form has placed the Madrid captain's squad status in doubt.

"We must be honest. The way Diego is playing, it will be very hard to get him out of the net," he said.

"I cannot say for certain that he will be stay there till the end of the season, but he is playing very well. For now, it will be difficult for Casillas to be on the bench against Galatasaray, but he will surely be there for Levante."

The Spanish champions drew 1-1 against Zaragoza on Saturday after Cristiano Ronaldo cancelled out Rodri's early opener, prompting Mourinho to lament his team's scoring touch deserting them this season.

"It is true that all our players except Ronaldo have scored less goals this season, and therefore the team suffers," the 50-year-old said.

"But I believe they will come, if not this season, then the next. It is not a matter of winning the league now, but to secure second place.

"Our goals remain the same; to progress to the Copa del Rey final and beyond the quarter-finals of the Champions League."

Madrid host Galatasaray in Europe's premier club competition on Wednesday.

He pulled off another brilliant save when the match was 1-0, Mourinho made it loud and clear today, Lopez is the number one, Casillas will have to wait patiently for his turn.

He's number 1 and he's been earning it. As much as I love Iker Lopez doesn't deserve to be benched right now.

Agreed. Lopez fully deserves to be starting currently. It would be unfair if he was randomly benched.

However I think Casillas should get some sub appearances in league games if we're winning.

That's because Mourinho is a dick.

How can Casillas fight for his spot when they don't give him any chances? Mou is scared if he give Casillas minutes he will play great then benching him is hard.

if it's ""whoever is better starts"", then Mou must give Casillas chance in non important Liga games. the current situation is disrespectful to our legend.

Yes, because when Mou isn't the manager, Straight GK swaps happen all the time in matches. Rolling Eyes

When was the last time you saw a GK sub without an injury? Never? Strange.

It's Iker we are talking about not a random GK. not only he is our legend he is the winner of best GK in the world award for past years. and he still have many years in him.

The situation isn't fair. give him minutes in non important liga games then pick the better GK. Mou is completely shutting him down.

then he has to perform better during training to prove his worth.

No manager is stupid enough to waste a sub on a gk.

Why waste a sub? start him. it's not like we are fighting for title. we lost league 10 weeks ago.

that being said, i really like Lopez. he is confident, plays great with his foot and has very good decision making.
