Well...Not as shocking of an ending as expected. This whole season (half of it I should say) was building towards Claire and Francis relationship finally reaching boiling point.
I thought personally it was a bit weak of Claire's character to all of a sudden turn so bipolar and feeble. I mean her character oozed strength throughout this show so far and she's seen Francis do worse things. How can someone go 30 years invested in a plan to just change their whole perception of things so quickly. Think it was lazy writing in that transition for Claire. Even throughout this season she was fine with all the shit Francis was pulling but all of a sudden some unlikeable pos in a Russian prison changes her opinions in an instant. Now she wants more out of life? This is not some kid who is coming of age, this is a 50 year old woman ffs they can't just make it as though the path she was going on was something she would outgrow when she found meaning in life. Every life decision she has made so far was towards that plan and writers made it seem as if it was hanging by a thread when push came to shove.
Rachel is just a big fruitloop dingus. Loved the scene where the car turns around and comes back for her and the next shot is of her in the grave
But man she didn't even put up a fight, probably wanted to die anyways as her whole life was miserable.....And the things she wanted - to be left alone, live in the woods, curl up in blankets etc bs was stupid. Doug knew she would grow tired of those things in a week and cause trouble down the line. Good decision to kill her. Glad they killed off this arc, didn't like Rachel much.
Before I forget, I must also say that in that scene in the oval office Francis went too far. I could literally see him going past the point of no return in slow motion when he grabbed her face and commanded her like a dictator. Massive massive mistake by him. It's as if he didn't know what kind of person Claire was. But I can sympathize with him as well because Claire was just flip flopping between what she wanted from Francis (typical woman )
Francis' presidency left us all underwhelmed I'm sure. Just not the Frank Underwood we've come to know in the first 2 seasons.
Throughout thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved season 1 and 2 a bit more.

The final episode was a bit underwhelming.
Great season overall. Enjoyed most episodes and Kevin Spacey once again delivered a masterclass of a performance.
However this season was low on key moments and high on character development. I don't think we should take this season as anything like the first two. I believe they never intended to make this season action packed and personally I was expecting something different which I was wrong about. When I started to take it as they intended it to be, I started liking it more. It's a problem when there are only 13 episodes and you can binge them in days. It feels kinda empty and hollow, as you expect it to be heavy with turning points and twists. Think that's what most on the internet are feeling because the general feeling is that this season was disappointing in a sense not much happened.
In any case, I absolutely loved the dialogues this season. Frank's character evolved into much worse. His tone and language got worse and his body language became more and more threatening. I never expected him to lash out at Claire. But she was right. Their relationship was never equal. Frank honestly doesn't care about her as much as she thought. He does care as we found out when Putin and Dunbar both threatened to damage her. But when it comes to absolute power, Frank wants to be the only one to have it. He really reminds me of Cersei in that sense. I loved Frank's interactions with Petrov. Thought both had an amazing chemistry together. Their scenes were easily one of the best things about the season. I hope we get to see more of them next year.
Moving to Claire, I agree with James' assessment. It's weird how she suddenly grew a morale compass. But I think frank's changing behaviour made he the way she become. Everything she tried to do failed and everything that failed had Frank's involvement in it. Maybe it was a bit of that and a bit of her past because she always did wanted to be involved in charity work and all and she is serious when it comes to that. She isn't as clean as she makes it out but I think she wants to be the person who changes rather than who becomes Frank. Her reaction and expressions when the presidential debate was going on. She hated how Frank got Jackie to issue the sexism card. She also hated how Frank was becoming more and more selfish with each day. In the end she was becoming more and more like an average person rather than Frank's partner. The incident at that woman's house where she was nursing the baby. It was apparent that Claire was learning how much of a tight knot her life was becoming with Frank.
Overall, a very well development of her character this season. I honestly don't like her. But I can understand what they tried to do with her.
Moving to Doug, I am glad he got back to his best at the end. He is the complete opposite to Claire. Instead of moving towards the moral side, he moved against it. He had the chance to let Rachel go, but he realised that if he had to be with Frank, he needs to become which would help Frank with his plan. He can't be both as it wouldn't work. Great directing with that scene though. Rachel's expressions when she heard the car and then instant grave shot. That was brilliant.
I hated how they showed Doug at the start. But I guess they wanted to show how he was as broken as any other character. The most interesting thing was when he mentioned Peter Russo. I think Frank believed Doug was moving towards the same path and Doug gathered that. Frank would have had him killed if Doug kept on with his old drunk life. But Doug was clever enough to get back to his old self.
Regarding Remy, I thought the scenes between him and Jackie were terrible. Remy was better in season 1 and 2. This year he was awful unless when with Frank. I like him a lot but they shouldn't have made him as weak as they did at the end.
Jackie. Indifferent. She doesn't interest me at all. Her plot was basic
Tom was an interesting character though. Didn't think he would be, but he ended up becoming good. I assume we will see more of him later. Won't be surprised if Frank kills him at some point though.
Agree with Mclewis about Ayla.
Overall, a great season, but not as good as season 1 and 2. Still enjoyed it and unfortunately we will have to wait a year for season 4. But it was totally worth the wait.

- So i just finished episode 4 and i'm wondering if there was a meaning behind Jesus statue nearly falling on Frank.
Everything Frank does this season seems to backfire, Petrov making a fool out of him and Dunbar rejecting that offer and going for presidency.
Is Doug losing his loyalty to Frank or he's just planing to take Dunbar down ?

It was a really dissapointing season for me. If it wasn't all released at once I don't think I would've completed it.
Frank was just a bumbling idiot throughout. Less of a criminal mastermind and more of a misogynistic idiot. The way he bent over for Putin while disrespecting the congresswoman and his wife was incredibly stupid. He did nothing right all season. His jobs plan, putin and the peacekeeping mission, Jackie as VP, and Dunbar to the supreme court. It was all failures.
And Claire, christ, what the hell were these writers thinking? Like it was mentioned here before, the whole change of heart after meeting the activist was ridiculous. She wasn't a perfect character before but does anyone believe that the "I'll kill your unborn child" Claire would have turned this soft and petty? She helped get Frank in the white house and now she decides that she wants more? She couldn't even handle being a UN embassador.
Doug's arc was also annoying. I get what they were trying to do but to me there are few things more boring than watching alcoholics destroy themselves. Plus his brilliant plan of showing loyalty was to keep Claire's incriminating journal.
I wasn't a huge fan of the writer. His narration of the book was particularly bad. It reminded me of high school english class where the teacher forced everyone to read a play out loud. Hardly anyone took it seriously but there were a couple that tried their hardest but still sounded awful. That was Tom.

- Watch the very first episode of the series again and you will notice how the show was much better before.
Claire's sudden character development was poor writing. It's like they wanted her and Frank to separate and wrote her growing a moral compass and being dissatisfied, never mind what she did in past seasons
She was okay with Frank screwing Zoe, threatened to kill an unborn child, schemed with Frank on ruining Russo and yeah now she is all changed because of a conversation with a drunk writer and a douchebag who committed suicide.
And Frank. He was always a despicable man but he was smart. He screwed people over but never let them know he was screwing them over. What he did to Jackie was so stupid. When she came to complain in the White House, past seasons Frank would have manipulated her to stay as VP not verbally abuse her and establish him as his bitch. What was he expecting? Of course she was going to endorse Dunbar after that. How did he grow so stupid? And his love for Claire, he was ready to slit Dunbar's throat for her, he wanted to set Putin on fire for her, he loves her like a tiger loves blood, that's what he said in the first season and then he tells her she is basically his slave?
This season was a complete character drama which is not a bad thing. The three characters they focused on was Frank, Claire and Doug. Look, I love Doug but this is House Of Cards. I don't know why they made him get so much screentime.
Emphasis on these three characters hurt others. Remy was supposed to be the next Frank until he joined private corporations. He was supposedly as smart as Frank and they relegated him to his damn servant. Seth was this quiet badass who looked out for himself and could get the job done, he was nothing but a yes man this season.
The new characters I liked. Putin was GOAT, the writer (Doyle from Boardwalk Empire
) I thought he did good acting and added a very interesting dynamic in the show. His narration was not all that bad imo.
The season was worth my time though. It's still good but not as good as it was before. The Putin episodes I liked the best. The dialogue with Frank where he asks him if he killed a man with his bare hands
The cinematography, overall acting, dialogue America Works/hurricane story arc were all great.
The writing was sub par. Also a lot of things that happened did not have any repercussions because they were settled off screen! Claire not voted as UN ambassador? Brb recess appointment. Claire defies Putin and Russia does not commit troops to Jordan Valley? Brb they are forced to do it because pressure from UN. Gomez from Breaking Bad main Republican candidate? Brb something something and he's no longer the candidate.
Also the lack of fourth wall breaking was bad. There are a lot of episodes where Frank does not speak to us at all. When he did, it was one of the best lines of the season (the Congress one
"What are you looking at?" 
)
Good TV at the end of the day. If season 4 is the last season then they need to have more fourth wall breaking and Frank regaining his intelligence.

- First of all, great summaries and analysis from you all.
I honestly really enjoyed this season. I love character development in shows/films. S1 is still the GOAT of course, but I loved this season more than the last.
I agree about Doug in the beginning of the season was just slow and boring and sad to see him like that, but didn't it all get better for him in the last 2 episodes though
I loved the way he came back to kill Rachel. He needed to! I was like 'oh my god, he's going to let her go and then she is going to bring him and Frank down in season 3. The direction was brilliant on that. The cinematography for that part was also killer
I agree with some of you that the writing could have been better. Because basically it was Frank trying to do something good for his rep/campaign and then something bad just happens to him and then rinse and repeat.
Petrov was an arrogant ass, didn't like him as much as you guys did. Think his character was too 'overdone', they tried to show him as too arrogant and as too much of a loose cannon/prick. But despite the repetition in some things, the direction and character arcs were brilliant
It was so engaging that it made this season great for me. You could feel something was about to happen at anytime. And I also loved the introduction of Yates. He added much to the show, the actor playing him was much better than Petrov's actor. I can't see how and why Frank would kill him though RG Just because he caused a further rift between him and Claire, nah..
Lack of Frank talking to us was a bit disappointing thing though
Best thing about this show is when he talks to us. When he did it was GOAT though as always
