It's a pointless argument though. Pep was first noticed by the Barca board when he did a great job with Barca B. Same thing with Van Gaal at Ajax and Mourinho with Porto.

All the great coaches got chances at big clubs, not because they won the CL with Newcastle, but because they impressed at small clubs. The likes of Pardew and Rogers didn't and so they're not mentioned in the same breath. That's how it works.

I didn't mean Rodgers was on the same level or close to the same level as Pep (though Rodgers also worked his way up from Chelsea youth to Swansea's promotion). I was just using the team in general as a recent example of how important the players are to being a top team and how important having WC players is.

Pep not feeling pressure at Bayern that's nonsense. When we played Bayern in preseason and they won Pep celebrated it like they'd just beat us in CL. That's a man with a mountain of pressure on his shoulders

As I said, if his team get beaten comfortably in a stage other than the final in CL he's going to walk or else the media will drive him out

I usually don't agree with Hans in general, as thats just us but I agree with him here, and not just because Pep is my hero.

@Curtinho wrote:You're right. The players that Liverpool has now are completely comparable and should be expected to perform at the same level as those at Bayern.

Anyway, I'm not blaming the players for Rodgers' shortcomings. He has obviously struggled (in some ways). With that said even when Bayern aren't fielding the likes of Robbery, or Alaba, or Thiago, or Martinez, et. al. you're still fielding guys like Lewandowski, Muller, Gotze, Boateng, Bernat, Alonso and have even added Vidal and Costa to that. Who do Liverpool have when Sturridge, Coutinho and Henderson go down (and that's not even accounting for the fact that none of those three are on the level of Bayern starters to begin with, maybe not even their back-ups).

Which is kind of my point in this case. Rodgers has his own shortcomings, but you can definitely cover for a lot of those things by having 10 WC players instead of maybe 2, if that. Then of course it's a lot easier to attract those kinds of players when you're on top of the world and have no shortage of money.

Again, I'm not saying that Pep isn't a brilliant coach. He does a great job with the tools that he has. No doubt. I'm saying a lot of top coaches are also partially aided by circumstance. It would be interesting to see Pep at a club like City, or even going further and putting him somewhere like Newcastle. Though again, he wouldn't ever go there so it's kind of pointless to speculate.
sorry, I got a bit snarky.

My point wasn't that Liverpool and Bayern have a similarly good team and therefore should achieve similar success.

It would be that good coaching can bring any team to succeed, in a measure somewhat connected to the quality of course.

That's the part I don't get. Your team was more expensive than ours, you realize that?
Of course we have more pull and CL so some players are out of reach for you.
But it's not like there's a shortage of money at Liverpool.
It's just not used that efficiently.

It means we simply disagree, no ad hominem there as I frequently get along with people I disagree with, disagreeing with another not my judgement of them at all.

Politics? I'd say the same for you but theres another disagreement Laughing

"He is the best, even if he doesn't want to admit it himself," Tuchel told reporters ahead of Sunday's fixture.

"I've always been a fan of Barcelona. Barcelona under Pep was the benchmark for me."

like with Kloppmund, the fact they have 'WC players' is to a large degree due to a consistent coaching achievement that makes players look, or be, (i.e. perform) at a world class level that arguably wouldn't have been on anybody's list else.

I think they have a number of players that would be considered world class regardless, or were touted as becoming WC regardless, but Simeone certainly knows how to get the most out of his players, as does Pep.

Oh look, another former Bayern player talking.

Main man Mario Basler with some classy poetry
My translation..

Mario Basler wrote:This Bayern is like dream sex with the woman of your dreams, 34 times in a row.

This Bayern is like rivers of beer, that never end.

This Bayern is like 300 days of vacation a year, and the rest is holidays.

I like the dominance. I love the meticulousness of Pep on the sideline, of Lahm on the field. I admire the dynamism of Müller and Costa, the goal-lust of Lewandowski.

If Pep asked me if I wanted to play in this team, I'd say: "No, I just want to watch, in this instance that's much more beautiful"

http://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/mario-basler/traumsex-mit-einer-traumfrau-42900244.bild.html

inb4 Catalan paper headline "Basler: I would not want to play for Pep"

The former Barcelona coach also gave some insight into the value of training for helping players to learn new "tactical concepts."

"I like specialist players and adaptable ones too," he said. "The mental aspect is more important than the physical. What is not trained is forgotten. You learn from tactical work while playing, because the game is the real thing. The training is about making decisions. By training we convince the players about tactical concepts."

Guardiola : "Playing a match every three days, the most important thing is preparation and recovery"

Guardiola : "The best player is the one who captures the concepts very fast. The concepts are more important than the physical training"
