Lahm:

''Pep is an incredible coach on a completely different level in terms of tactics. You're always measured with trophies, but Pep developed a lot of players with the way he thinks about tactics and the way he analyses games. Pep really helps players develop and he even helped me improve at the age of 30- with Pep it's more than just about winning trophies. The first thing Man City players will have to know is this: keep your position. This is what Pep places greatest value on.''

Source

It'll be interesting to see how City adapt to Pep's positional play. A good chance they'll struggle early on.

Football players are so fickle. They think because Pep tells them to "keep their positions" he is the reincarnation of Newton. So gullible. Football players. rofl Should stick to kicking balls on the pitch instead of talking.

and 1000 Dantes. Sadly, only 11 players are allowed on the pitch.

Still will walk the EPL though.

Jan Kirchhoff wrote:“What do you want – the polite answer or the honest answer?” Kirchhoff asks, winding down from the beach trip and a five-a-side training ground defeat by Sunderland’s under-eights. He has just been asked to assess Guardiola. “Honest? Pep Guardiola’s going to win this league and change this league like you’ve never seen before.

“I’m totally sure. He’s going to build one of the greatest teams at Manchester City and win the league without any trouble. You’re going to see a totally different way of playing.
[...]

So how does Allardyce match up? Kirchhoff pauses. “Pep’s the best coach in the world for sure so I cannot say Sam’s the best as well! But Sam’s good. His treatment of players, the way he speaks to us, his video analysis, the way he prepares us for games is very good. I’ve had really bad coaches – but he’s a really good coach.”

Just wait until the first game when they realize that the fullbacks rather than staying wide and overlapping are playing inside and underlapping.

Haters gonna hate, but Bayern vs Atlético was one of the most complete performances I've seen from a team in recent years. Shame that Bayern lacked luck in front of the goal and conceded the unluckiest of goals. They would have torn Atlético a new one on a slightly better day. Or any other team for that matter.

He ends his 3-year stint at Bayern with 7 trophies.

Although he missed out on the CL, his Bayern side played some amazing footy this season. Notable games include the 3-1 win against Wolfsburg (DFB Pokal), 5-0 against Arsenal, 2-2 against Juve (Bayern away), and 2-1 against Atletico.

I'm going to miss seeing:

Bayern overload right flank ---> Alonso switches the ball to Costa on the left ---> Costa has a 1v1 against the RB ---> wins the individual duel and crosses the ball ---> Lewa/Muller tap it in

I never watched a single Bundesliga game of his, understandably you can't blame a football fan for not wanting to watch a one horse race. And watching his past two semi-finals against Madrid and Barcelona, I definitely thought his team lacked ideas and were very predictable.

Having said that, the match against Atlético, especially the second leg, it was almost like watching prime galácticos Real Madrid against Pardew's Newcastle. You were unpredictable and could have scored at any time, on the ground, from air, from wide, from the middle. I still don't know how Bayern didn't put a handful past Atlético. Regardless, it was such a joy to watch beautiful attacking football.

I'm going to let that one horse nonsense slide for now, but not without reminding you that the 78 points Tuchel's Dortmund collected as this season's 2nd placed team are more points than any Bundesliga champion ever collected prior to Kloppmund's record-breaking 81 point 2011/2012 season. Jupp and Pep have bettered even these historic point talles not because the league is a one horse race or such BS, but because they did incredible work as coaches since 2012/13.

On topic, we've produced great performances pretty much week in week out under Pep, some of them pretty stunning, even though the Atletico first half, along with the Juve away first half, surely rank among the best.
Against lesser opponents, there was the cup win against Wolfsburg, the 5-1 against Arsenal, the home win against Porto etc off the top of my head.
The best games however were the Dortmund league games this season. The game this spring was outrageously good, best quality game I've seen all season.

Footballwise, Pep's time at Bayern was a huge, overwhelming success.
I think our team, performing as a team, was at times far superior to Pepcelona, to be completely honest :coffee:

Re: Pep Guardiola appreciation thread

No let us go off-topic actually.

First and foremost, Bundesliga is a one horse race. It is not what I claim, it is a widely accepted fact. The fact that Tuchel's team were in contention until the last few weeks is only a merit of his team, not Bundesliga itself, just like when Simeone's Atlético won La Liga it wasn't a merit to La Liga but to Los Colchoneros' incredible feat. You cannot claim things to be otherwise when Bayern sign their main rival's best players every season Laughing

Superiority to Guardiola's Barcelona is debatable. I think what most people have forgotten is that the Barça team that won everything was a wounded team with their main star (Ronaldinho) gone, but reconstructed upon their youth coming through the ranks, with some players having played 3rd tier football the previous season (Pedro and Busquets) and lead by a manager with no experience but coming from the same academy. It was a fairy tale come true. And believe me, people will remember that Barça forever but this Bayern is sadly already forgotten due to failure to win the Champions League.
