Re: Chicago Fire
Got to see the game against Spurs and thought it was awesome. My first professional sports viewing of any kind, and of course to watch Chicago and Tottenham was a treat for me. Thought the quality of the match itself was pretty poor (Tottenham were sloppy and looked a bit tired, while Chicago rarely threatened) but I had a lot of fun anyway.
Chicago defensively weren't too shabby looking at the entirety of the game, two bad defensive mistakes early and late on lead to goals though.
Stadium wide standing ovation for Brad Friedel was heartwarming.

Nice to see you had fun CB. I enjoyed the Red Bulls-Arsenal game as well, even though we lost lol. At least you saw your team score some goals in a win even if it was a bit sloppy
What was the fan ratio like there? Was it about even or was it pretty lopsided one way or the other? The game I was at was literally 90% arsenal if not more

Re: Chicago Fire
Not 90% lopsided but it was definitely probably about 75-80% Spurs. I thought it would be pretty even. I would understand Arsenal having a lot of supporters given the fanbase and achievements of Arsenal, but I didn't understand going to this game and seeing SOOOO many Spurs fans. Didn't know that many people were interested in finishing outside of top 4 and being disappointed each season.

Re: Chicago Fire
Chicago have been abysmal this season, in both results and playing style. Unsurprising that the fan attendance would be rather suppressed, especially after losing 5-1 to San Jose less than half a week before.

Re: Chicago Fire
I didn't go to the match, I had work on Saturday. I just drove up to Chicago yesterday morning to catch the LFC friendly before driving back last night/this morning for work tomorrow.

I do generally go to at least 2 Chicago home matches a season if possible though.

I was with family and the girlfriend so any meeting would have had to been pretty brief anyhow.

Dilly Duka for Senna Nyassi... an inconsistent but talented 24yo winger for a more consistent but less talented 25yo winger.

*bleep* indefensible. I was never a fan of Yallop but with how this season has played out I don't think anyone can argue with my preseason worries and complaints... every fear has played out exactly to script like a 1960s horror film.

Re: Chicago Fire
Barely matters. Yallop would have used him as a CB or a wide midfielder in all likelihood, to be honest.

Re: Chicago Fire
Feel for the fire. The RR/Mike Magee trade was an amazing deal, but other than that I feel like every move and trade they've made the last few years has made them worse. MLS could really use a team in a big Market like Chicago to be better run than it currently is.RedOranje wrote:Barely matters. Re: Chicago Fire
Can't help but feel there's little plan to them though beyond signing whoever was available. More forwards and wide attackers is not what Chicago really needs.

Re: Chicago Fire
Yeah the backline is a bit weak.. But the Fo has been really proactive.
Defenders are cheap so when there are only three dp spots per team imo it's just a better idea to use Dps on forwards and midfielders.
Hopefully the new cba raises the cap a decent amount with an additional DP spot. Would make paying defenders big money a bit easier when necessary

Re: Chicago Fire
Larentowicz listed as a defender on Chicago's official roster for the season (as of now) so it seems Yallop intends to permanently shift him into the backline. That leaves us with roughly 2 CM options: the newly arrived Matthew Watson and quite inexperienced Chris Ritter.
We're certainly loaded with attacking players, though the quality the some of them is questionable.

Re: Chicago Fire
Nowhere near enough depth in midfield there. Still another month and change before the season kicks off at least so hopefully that gets addressed.

Johnson
Palmer - Larentowicz - Adailton(?) - Segares
Watson
Shipp(?) - Maloney - Accam
Igboananike - Magee

Maybe? Two of our DPs are primarily left-sided attackers; Magee is a cult hero and league MvP season before last then largely injured last season when Amarikwa stepped up, but Igbo is the final DP and only really a CF; Shipp had a break-out debut season and really deserves continued confidence while Nyarko has been a consistent contributor to the club for season upon season; 4 of our 6 midfielders are either wide or attacking in nature, excluding the two already mentioned.
