2022 Qatar World Cup

Post by Kaladin on Mon Mar 04, 2013 11:52 am

http://www.caughtoffside.com/2013/03/03/fifa-confirm-2022-qatar-world-cup-could-be-held-in-the-winter/

Speaking from first hand experience, i approve of this. It tends to get above 50+ C in the summer. Problem is it will get in the way of league schedules and whatnot. Thoughts?

The weather is actually fabulous in the winter.

Not sure if clubs are going to like it though. Even though it can easily be done as far as rearranging schedules go.

How easily? How soon do you think the rearranging would have to begin in order to line it up?

It's a complete joke.

The Worlc Cup should be held in summer and having it in winter would be a scheduling nightmare and an incredible disruption on the club season.

But hey, why not give them the Winter Olympics, too.

Just start the season two or three weeks earlier than usual. It'll give you at least a month during the winter break which would be more than enough time.

The only problem of course would be European clubs not liking it.

It's not called the "Summer World Cup" lol

Well that's your opinion. Hope it doesn't ruin the World Cup for you because I'm sure Qatar will be great hosts when it's all said and done.

World Cup is not a political event lol.

Doing it in the winter is a bad idea because of the club schedule. It takes 2 months to prepare and play a WC. You also want some time off before and after the event so the players aren't overplayed... you're talking 3 months. I can't see how that's going to work. In EPL, there is no winter break. In La Liga and France, you get 2 weeks. Not sure in Germany and Italy.

I think it's impossible.

It's definitely possible I mean theoretically FIFA could just force everyone to stop what they're doing lol

It might not be feasible though from a logistics stand point.

Hold it in Australia, so when it's winter here, it's summer there hmm.

The clubs wont allow this lol, unless Fifa agrees to postpone the season for like 6 months lmao.

Never happening.

What happened to the £30 billion air conditioning they were going to install?

You couldn't just have given it to America could you Fifa?.... It would have been easier, safer and more enjoyable for everyone.

Why is Summer rated above Winter? Why's Summer always seen as the positive season and Winter the negative?

Is the actual season the problem, or is it because of the clubs seasons starting?

Because we play f*cking football in winter except for like 2 weeks, while we have a summer break in which we have international tournaments, in countries with proper climate.

True, however the 2022 WC being in Qatar can't be changed now.

The WC isn't a long tournament. It only lasts around a month. So the season can either start a month early or end a month late. Add in maybe a 3/4 weeks rest. The previous season would probably end early too.

If they knew about these conditions, why give Qatar the World Cup in the first place? I do not like the idea of "moving mountains" in order to make this "work", words cannot describe...

No need to move the country, just allow a country that is capable of hosting this event in the summer.
