Hello, Newbie here
I found this site after a day of searching out the best soccer forums. I joined two others before I found this one. The other two didn't seem that active and had a lot of spam comments.
I'm in the U.S. and am a growing soccer fan. I just learned today that NBC is showing all of the British Premier League games across their networks, so I'm pretty psyched.
One question I can't find an answer for though. I know there are a ton of leagues and tournaments. Right now on the Fox Soccer Channel, they've been showing UEFA Champions League games. I just watched Barca vs. Celtic in which Barc won the game in the last few seconds.
Is this tournament happening now, or is this a repeat? I don't understand it and have a hard time keeping track. I've searched and Googled but I still can't find any answers that are satisfying.
Man, can someone explain the Champions League in three sentences? I've looked on Wikipedia but my brain hurts after looking. I want to know what I'm watching and how long the tournament will be going on. Exactly what is happening with Champions League Right now?
Also, I'm wondering if I should dump the Fox Soccer Channel and just watch this huge new deal with NBC and the Premier League. I know most of the big matches will be on ESPN, so hopefully I won't miss anything big.
Sorry for the long, rambling post!

Re: Introduce yourself to the community - Topic 2
Hello there sir, welcome to the forum and the sport!
And Yeah haha, its an old game.
The CL is for teams from leagues across europe, which depending on the league you are in can qualify for the tournament depending on where you finish.
For example the teams that finish in the top 4 spots in the EPL will play in the competition that runs at the same time as the domestic league the following season. And the top teams from England, Spain ltaly, and a ton of other european countries will all play in it as well
lt will all make sense when you start watching, and l know how the european football leagues work is very different philosophically than any american sport so jumping into it now can be very confusing at first.
The EPL starts next week though, just begin watching that and go from there, and hope you enjoy it!

Re: Introduce yourself to the community - Topic 2
The Champions League runs parallel to the leagues and usually ends in May. The CL qualification usually starts a bit earlier (end of July 2013 this season), but the "big leagues" get into the competition a bit later (most starting with the play-offs for the 3rd or 4th placed teams of the bigger leagues), in this season this is next week.
You might want to look out for
FC Arsenal (England) - Fenerbahce Istanbul (Turkey)
Real Sociedad San Sebastian (Spain) - Olympique Lyon (France)
FC Schalke 04 (Germany) - Metalist Kharkiv (Ukraine)
AC Milan (Italy) - PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands)
By the way, you might want to join this thread and ask your CL questions there - I'm sure you will get even more info then!

I'm still waiting for a crazy, whining, overreacting, overly dramatic, 20-something woman from New Zealand who has an overly-protective little brother, to appear and bring some life and shenanigans to this forum, once again
And Giu + Droit.. where the hell are you, guys? :-(

Hi, here for football discussion. I found this forum when a topic about Zidane popped up in my Google search and I liked the forum as a whole.
