gotta wonder exactly how Frank's gonna launch an assault on this money drop, all of that stuff he had on the list seems to hint that he'll have a bunch of guys but we know he doesn't have any except that awkward mofo that's his driver, could see him using the Mexicans which would be stupid and getting killed by them at the end, they had a few important scenes and if they don't feature again it will be weird plotline.

I don't think even binging like elitedam said would help you remember all these minor (who are actually major to the plot) character's names. For the longest time I thought Blake was the Ethan Hawke half anaconda half great white shark guy until I saw the real Blake (tall guy looks like a creep) on the party and found out last episode that Ethan Hawke's name is Nails. Had no idea that the 70s disco cop (Holloway) is Chief of Police.

So it looks like the ones who killed Caspere are probably the siblings who were orphaned in the jewelry store robbery. Caspere's assistant and her probable brother the photographer in the movie set (who probably was the one in the bird costume who shot Velcoro in episode 2).

I don't understand the Ethan Hawke reference? hmm

Can't help but think Ray's dad was involved in the diamond robbery. He vouches for Burris and Holloway saying they are good men but it's obvious they are anything but that. I think he was the getaway driver hmm

read quite few hated the ending and thought the plot made no sense throughout the season.

Read a joke that season 3 will be marty and Rust trying to make sense of season 2 Laughing

People just expect a happy ending all the time like it's a Marvel movie. Definitely a lot wrong with this season but there was a lot to like too. Finale played out sort of how I expected tbh, enjoyed most of the major events.

One of the major flaws with the season though is that they often had very important (to the story) characters appear for like two minutes and then nonchalantly namedrop them like we should remember who they were 6 episodes later

IMO True Detective S1 was a 9.5/10 and season 2 was a generous 7/10

I don't regret watching it, still better than most of the stuff I've watched on TV in the last five years

This 2nd season was inconsistent, alternated good and bad episodes but the final was hateful for me ...
The worst final I could imagine
TD1 is even 10/10 imo . Simply GOAT.

Disappointed. Like many said still better than most shows on the TV mainly due to the cast quality and shortness of the series (hence the level of quality)....but the plot at no stage was interesting or suspense ridden. Finale wasnt any different either.Hope they find better script next time.

Great decision to binge the last 4. The plot made so much more sense, and I absolutely loved everything else. It was so freaking intense. A 9/10 for me, I was sweating because of the tension. Everything that happened in the ending felt true to the characters despite what you might think of it.

probably also the last season if I'd venture a guess, don't think a third has been announced

Hispter is what now Laughing

There are a lot of stuff to criticise imo, in the ending and the whole season. I'm only going to breifly talk about the finale. First of all again 10 mins was wasted with Ani and Ray talking in bed in the morning - plain unnecessary and pointless when you consider that Frank's shootout at Osip's exchange was literally the most excited part we waited for in the finale and that shootout was short and cheap more than anything else tbh, last week someone posted about how he was wondering how Frank was gonna gather a gang because everyone is against me, then he calls Ray and the two of them get rid of 6/7/8 people Laughing First of all, thought there was going to be more people at the exchange, and the number of weaponery told us shit was going to be big scale, rather than a quick hit and run. Secondly, I admire how GOAT Frank was with the gun when he seems to be more on the businessman side of the mob world and not the type that get rids of people.

I liked the location of Ray and Frank's deaths though. Think it was brilliant and apt to their characters like Freeze mentioned. Even if it was more on the "fated/everything comes full circle" side. But then some things were also just placed their to evoke sentiment, like for instance, Chad an introverted, kinda-outcast kid that gets bullied brings his dad's most priced possession to him to school - just ain't realistic to the source material - also Chad was pretty much a young and dumb kid, who liked his father but didn't show it much and he was literally always 3/4 reproached to his father throughout the season and then suddenly he gets so sentimnetal about his dad that he takes the badge to school.

I also liked the meeting/shootout between Ray and Holloway, but then again that was just one of the few high-octane moments in a rather slow-paced finale much like the rest of the season.

Don't get me wrong though, I am definitely on the side of the people that enjoyed the finale and the overall season, it was good considering the narrative approach that Nic Pizzo took this season. Like Firenze I would rate it around 7/10.

Also I saw it mentioned elsewhere but you also need to consider that the creator apparently polished up season 1's story over a period of 5 years and had to follow it up with 8 hrs of television a year later. That's a huge challenge.

I completely agree with Firenze's rating and assessment of the season. I don't regret watching it at all, especially since this was Colin Farell's best performance in years. I don't think it's better than most of the stuff I watched because I am very selective with what I watch. I think the story was too ambitious to be completed in 8 months (though there is no excuse for the terrible writing we suffered through at times), it certainly lacked polish and was all over the place the entire season.

IIRC in Episode 7 Frank told Nails that the Russian's had bought everyone that was loyal to him along with his clubs

IMO he ended up actually being the highlight of the season and at least the finale, the desert walk scene was great - had a bunch of great scenes in the last few episodes in fact and his acting was good, not a coincidence that in the final couple of episodes all the stupid dialogue he had been given stopped.

You had to suspend disbelief a lot in the finale though, with Ray's story in particular, there was no need for him to randomly drive into the woods for a last stand Laughing
