IIRC in Episode 7 Frank told Nails that the Russian's had bought everyone that was loyal to him along with his clubs

IMO he ended up actually being the highlight of the season and at least the finale, the desert walk scene was great - had a bunch of great scenes in the last few episodes in fact and his acting was good, not a coincidence that in the final couple of episodes all the stupid dialogue he had been given stopped.

You had to suspend disbelief a lot in the finale though, with Ray's story in particular, there was no need for him to randomly drive into the woods for a last stand Laughing

Yeah it's funny how Rays fake plan to drive in to a parking lot and do a switcheroo was infinitely better than a shootout in the woods. Really I felt like most of the characters in this seasons show wanted to die at some point or another.

And yeah that makes sense in regards to Franks mob. I kinda figured with how the show hinted he was a major player, he'd have had some loyal guns with him surely. FFS he was a Millionaire with a shady past.

I'm sure Frank did have a bunch of ppl loyal to him but that ginger guy who betrayed him mentioned how Frank was making all those deals and trying to move on into legit business over the last year and he never mentioned anything about what his crew would do, so they started looking out for themselves. You knew Frank was dead 10 minutes into the episode though which was a shame, his whole exchange with his wife made that clear at the start.

Also I know this was supposed to be impactful but was I the only one who couldn't help but find this scene funny? kept thinking of the GL emote tbh lol

Very solid season. Tough to keep up with that plot, but I liked it nontheless. It was it's own season and it has to stand apart from season 1 and I think it did that.

It's just going to be one of those things you either really like or you really don't like. Not a lot of middle ground. Count me in that first camp.

I actually liked it. Thought it was a nice touch, but I also knew Ray was driving into trouble/his death as soon as he made that turn from the freeway.
The unrealistic, cringy part though was about the son having the badge there with him like i mentioned in my earlier post. They could have just let Ray watch him for a few seconds without him seeing his dad, and leave out the whole Molenation thing Laughing

I really do hope they continue with this show. But I want to see another style/approach if there was to be a season 3. Considering the content and style of the first two seasons, there genuinely is more ways Nic Pizzo can bring a 8-episode detective story each season.

Compared to the first season, I would give this season only 6.5/10.
1. The start was really pacy and it looked like this season is going to unfold into a brilliant thrill but sadly it did happen. Till the point they steal those evidence from this party, everything was fine. After that everything was dull.

2. I would have had no problem to show the killings of main characters, but all the killings were kind of 'what the f, that is just so stupid'

3. That 6.5 is being generous because I liked the acting from everyone till the end.

4. The story line was just a normal gangster story which we have seen the same shit for years with Mexicans and blah blah blah

I had to comment after watching the end of episode 2. Kin'ell! That was a major surprise.

My one criticism of True Detective has always been the amount of dialogue involved. I have a short attention span sometimes so it makes following the plot difficult for me. I need subtitles, dammit.

Like, I dunno what the F is going on half the time.

Season 2 is just all right. Writing on some parts were quite bad and plot was not all that great either. High points were Colin Farrel's acting and some of the dialogue.

Season 2 with tweaks could've been better, think I said it here that if I had never watched TD before and jumped to Season 2 i'd have thought that season 1 was legit a prequel season because the plot was so convoluted they'd just name drop characters we'd seen for like 0.5 seconds in the background as if we knew their life stories

Apart from that, very enjoyable imo

My thoughts after I finished it.

Firenze wrote:IMO True Detective S1 was a 9.5/10 and season 2 was a generous 7/10

I don't regret watching it, still better than most of the stuff I've watched on TV in the last five years

M99 wrote:I completely agree with Firenze's rating and assessment of the season. I don't regret watching it at all, especially since this was Colin Farell's best performance in years. I don't think it's better than most of the stuff I watched because I am very selective with what I watch. I think the story was too ambitious to be completed in 8 months (though there is no excuse for the terrible writing we suffered through at times), it certainly lacked polish and was all over the place the entire season.

Honestly, you are better of with Fargo, Breaking Bad, Daredevil, Band of Brothers and other GOAT show you did not finish yet.

The amount of shows i have watched about half of and haven't completed is endless tbh Laughing

Also without knowing why was Vince Vaughn cast lol? don't get me wrong i think he's a good actor and really enjoy his films but surely unless the tone is drastically different it's not really suited to his strengths?

He had dramatic roles early on in his career. He is actually pretty good this season, especially towards the end but some of the lines he had early on were terrible.
