Ancelotti pre match:

"Carlo Ancelotti appeared before the press in the run up to the match against Real Sociedad. The Italian coach explained his feelings on the clash: “Real Sociedad is a tricky team that plays well, above all in its home ground. We need to do everything to win because the match is very important for the league. We want to stay in the fight and the match will be vital. If we don't win the league becomes more difficult. The objective is to win and do everything to achieve it”.

“The schedule is very difficult for the clubs. The German teams have a rest in winter and come back in February and March feeling fresher. In January we played nine matches. I'm talking about all the Spanish teams, not just Real Madrid. It is a miracle that the Spanish have five teams in the European competitions. Injuries are normal”.

Cristiano Ronaldo
“We're resting him because he's a little tired, in order to avoid any risk. We have important matches and that is why we're leaving him behind so that he can rest, train and be ready. On Tuesday he'll be fresher and he'll be able to recover better from the consecutive matches he's played. I've spoken to him and we decided together to give him a rest. He wants to play in every match and that's great, but he hasn't had any problems”.
AT THIS POINT ALL TEAMS HAVE PLAYED A LOT OF GAMES AND IT IS NORMAL THAT THERE ARE INJURIES.
“We have various options for replacing Cristiano. Morata could play and move the position of the strikers. Isco is going to play. Di María is in the squad, I don't think he'll start but he'll be on the bench. He trained in the gym and I think he'll be better tomorrow. He's lost a little weight. We have to wait but I'll be putting out the freshest team. Bale is doing well, he is playing well in the matches he has and playing regularly. Changing his position could be an option tomorrow”.

Jesé
“Jesé has had a fever and an inflamed knee. He needs a check-up with the doctor who operated on him and he's going to Germany to do that. It is not unusual. He has been unlucky this season. At the moment all the teams have played a lot of games and it is normal that there are injuries. I don't believe in curses”.

The squad
“We have injuries such as those of Khedira, Arbeloa and Jesé who we miss, but physically the team is doing well, we showed that on Wednesday against Borussia. The team is fine, although it is true that there are players who we miss. Khedira is doing individual work and in 10 or 15 days he could start working with us again”.

Prediction:

Real Sociedad 2-3 Real Madrid

Alvaro Medran is this very exciting prospect in our cantera right now. He is a wonderful CM who has been alternating between Castilla and the C team. The reason J Rod hasn't been called up is because he has been playing further up lately I think. Omg how great it would be if Medran managed to get a cameo. Our very own Oliver Torres with better shots Proud

Seems like injuries are sweeping through our camp atm. We are probably going to see Bale on the left judging by Carlo's presser. God knows who will take the third forward role, Morata is not a winger and should not be played like one and DiMaria has a stomach bug. I hope Isco plays as the LF and Illarra as the CM

Excellent second half. Boring first

I wonder why we couldn't play like this against Sevilla??

Pepe has been a monster this season and capped a superb game off with a goal. Well done son

Interesting game.

Players looked slow and lathargic, but a win is a win and they took their limited chances.

Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti was elated by his side’s 0-4 win over Real Sociedad at the notoriously hostile Anoeta and insists that after the complete performance, they will continue fighting for La Liga until the end.

In his post-match press conference, Ancelotti analysed the match and insisted that they will remain in the hunt for La Liga.

“A valued the entire performance, because we played very well. We played intelligently. We started with a very high pace and the match was very good. It was a good contest. I am very happy. I have a team who likes to fight and I’m proud to coach this team.

“The victory strengthens the team’s resolve. We are on a good run of form. We are behind in the standings, but we will fight until the end.

“All matches are difficult, but we were focused, especially in the second half.”

Ancelotti then spoke about Gareth Bale’s performance in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and why the Portuguese international was held out.

“We played at the left wing position because that left the field open to attack. They often change positions amongst themselves. We are lucky to have them both with us.

“I wanted to avoid injuries. Players like Cristiano, for example, were rested. We wanted to avoid problems. Then there is the concern about their physical fitness because it’s not easy to recover quickly after a game like we had on Wednesday. The level of intensity was very good. The biggest concern going into the match was that we’d be lacking in intensity and after that the good organisation in the field. We didn’t give La Real anything to improve their performance.”

Ancelotti concluded by discussing the whistles to Asier Illarramendi, in his first appearance back at Anoeta.

“He wasn’t upset by what happened. He was very focused on the game. He played a very good game, especially on the defensive side.”

Real Madrid defensive midfielder, Asier Illarramendi made his return to Anoeta for the first time after his €31 million move to the Spanish capital last summer and was warmly greeted with boos and whistles from the crowd.

In his post-match interview, Illarramendi admitted that he understood the fans’ reaction, especially after scoring his first goal at Anoeta, but stressed that he did what he had to do by leaving the Basque club.

“Coming home is always special, it was very difficult for us. After the second goal the game was over and we took advantage of the spaces.

“It was a long time since I’d scored a goal with La Real and, of course, today had to be the day where I scored again. We’re happy for the victory.

“The whistles? On one hand I expected it. They aren’t happy with what I did, but I was focused on the match. On one hand, I understand, but at the same time I gave my all during my time at Real Sociedad. I had the opportunity to go to Real Madrid and I took it.

“San Sebastian has always been my home and always will be. Real Sociedad gave me everything.”

Illarra concluded by discussing the team’s mentality knowing that the two other teams above them, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, had one their games.

“There are only a few games left and we need to win ours and wait for the others to slip up.”
