Re: FC Barcelona vs AFC Ajax | UCL Group Stage | Sept 18, 2013
Whats with Dutch teams? Just curious. They have for at least the past decade lagged behind all the other major leagues in terms of level. Nowadays they consistent get well beaten in CL and Europe in general. I think this Ajax team looked a bit like a youth team, nothing very impressive at all, and they are the best team there?
For us see the difference Xavi came on for Cesc, I guess it just shows that different they are.
Too bad Sanchez couldnt finish that team goal, would have been beautiful.
Very happy with Neymar again, hes so far better than Pedro by comparison now and Im glad hes clearly worked out for us quickly
Very happy with Tata so far needless to say.
We still have weaknesses but good progress.
Oh and another blunder by Macherano..... and still we continue to rely on him as out last line of dense and first choice CB. I hope Tata will find a solution for this.

Maybe it's because the dutch league is hardly a major league? Most of the top clubs should still do better but you shouldn't expect our teams to perform like teams from the french or even better leagues.BarcaLearning wrote:Whats with Dutch teams? Just curious. The dutch league is a selling league. If they would of kept some of the players they would been solid but they can't
Think of Suarez, Vertonghen etc

I remember in the 90s or so they were though.... their national team is always talented all the time. I guess due to whatever reason profit being the main one I guess they prefer to sell.

Clubs like Ajax do not necessarily WANT to sell. The Dutch clubs cannot compete with clubs abroad financially, so players want to move to another league to get a higher pay. And since the best players are going away relatively young, the teams do not get a chance to build anything. To make things worse, the players who do not care for money that much and for which that isn't an insentive to leave, will find an insentive in the fact that the clubs do not get a chance to build a team and compete. So it is a vicious circle really, all resulting from a lack of money compared to teams in the big leagues. All you can do then is to try and get as much money out of selling players as possible.
Dutch teams should try and mimic Portugese clubs more. They are in a similar situation but are better at finding and keeping talent and are thus also performing better in Europe.

Interesting game.I was surprised to see Messi play on the right for prolonged periods of time.Generally he goes there during games but not very often and that too only when we are in possession.Against Ajax we saw him out on the right for prolonged periods of time and that too when not in possession and defending!!!When was the last time we saw that?Once during a throw in deep in our half on the right he was even out there helping Alves.
For a lot of the match we saw
Neymar Alexis Messi
even when not in possession.Wonder whether we will see it again over the course of the season.

Pautasso: "Martino likes players to debate to reach a general consensus. The other day, everyone knew we were pressing badly and Ajax was playing from the keeper well."

Re: FC Barcelona vs AFC Ajax | UCL Group Stage | Sept 18, 2013
Im confused.
He wants the players to debate what? If they should continue to sit back and allow the midfield to have time on the ball, or actually try and win it?
They arent 13 years old, they already understand the consequence and risks of either way of defending. They dont need to be taught this.
So, im kind of confused, what is the object of allowing the players that kind of choice?

Even if the players know what they did wrong. talking things out as a team always helps. it kind of ensures everyone knows whats going on, etc.
