This isn't a thread centered around match discussion or banter though, and you know that as well as I do.

Btw I don't want people to confuse this as our match day thread. So I call for this to be competently locked or merged with some other thread or something if possible.

It's got match discussion in it, too, and that would only increase towards the game, but whatever you say...RedOranje wrote:This isn't a thread centered around match discussion or banter though, and you know that as well as I do.

Re: Arsenal-Liverpool Discussion
Nobody expects their team to win
I'm not sure if we can afford to play a 1-2 midfield like we did against WBA. They didn't play with a #10 so Lucas didn't have much to do defensively. Arsenal will play with Ozil right in that space and I can't see Lucas being able to deal with him. Not to mention they might have the two footed Cazorla cutting in to that space. Cazorla and Ozil going two on one with Lucas would be a disaster for us.
I also think Agger needs to be back in the team, we'll probably have less of the ball than Arsenal so we need to be able to keep it when we do have it. Chances are there'll be times in the match when we're forced back, with Skrtel we seem to drop deeper and deeper when that happens, everything becomes last ditch.
Agger doesn't get much credit because he's not in there making desperate tackles, he's more of a proactive defender in some ways, when he's in the side we don't allow the attacks to get as far as we do when he's not there.

Re: Arsenal-Liverpool Discussion
Jesus......we can no longer even have the banter (what used to make GL the best place).
For special games, it's always good to have it all for people of other fans, etc to comment too. I can change the title so it won't be re-jinxing, so you can move it back to general section.
Sometimes, you want more than just the boring tactical discussion. I change the thread title, and RedO, please move it back to general

True but still at the same time Arsenal are a million times better than us.... will be a close game anyway and i look forward to watching itMcAgger wrote:Well one huge difference against you guys was that we had Moses playing in the hole as the creatorGreat Leader Sprucenuce wrote:I wouldn't say that.... they are both fantastic but can be dealt with.Raptorgunner wrote:I agree, I take a point now. We did for 70 mins until our 10 men started to tire..... the key is to press and not allow much space between the lines and suffocate the midfield.
You can definitely handle them if you play to your best and go in with the correct game plan.
It's a different story with Coutinho back, or even Hendo playing in that role.

Re: Arsenal-Liverpool Discussion
I think it will be an obligatory 1-1 between the two teams. Hoping for a miracle, if we can win this somehow we will be in such a good position. Our next 5 games after this are very winnable. Massive massive game to test us.

Re: Arsenal-Liverpool Discussion
Again, depending on their fitness I think we have a real chance. I mean, a lot of people are overrating Arsenal right now. They haven't played anyone that could of exactly tested their actual quality just yet. We've already played United in the league, which "top" team have Arsenal played? This will be their biggest game so far this season. Sure they had Chelsea in the league cup but both teams rested players.
It's the battle of the final thirds. Henderson is a MUST in midfield.
Arsenal will open us up with ease if we play a 3 man defence as Ozil, Cazorla and Wilshere can all play the number 10 role. Especially with Cissokho at LB. SAS can terrorise anyone, I really hope we get the right Sturridge and not the "I want to score and do everyone on my own" one.
Arteta will be able to play .

It was a very bad thing for us that arsenal lost to chelsea on tueGunners aim to schackle SAS wrote:Thomas Vermaelen is confident Arsenal will be able to contain Liverpool's deadly 'SAS' strike-force of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

"Sturridge we played against last season. We know them both, they are playing well and quite dangerous. But now we need to keep going like we did the last couple of weeks.
Vermaelen insists that Tuesday's League Cup defeat to Chelsea will not have a major impact on the them.

Who is overrating us? All the praise thus far has been fair, level and relative to our performances. Overrating is when people say the league will be between Chelsea and City, who have both looked rocky at best in the league thus far

Ignore Mole for the time being, Nish. He's just upset that two players he has repeatedly bashed put his club to the sword in the derby.

As it stands, Chelsea is ahead. They're only one game behind and have already played City, Spuds and United and they've been "rocky". Arsenal haven't played anyone that is a threat to them yet. This is your biggest test this season. That's not to say LFC will win (personally think a draw comparing both teams rich form) but this is not an easy routine 3 point game for your lot.

Coutinho will feature, Wont be suprised if he starts, Cissokho was thrown in as well last time out.
Enrique is major doubt.

Re: Arsenal-Liverpool Discussion
I would go with a 4-3-1-2 with all Hendo, Gerrard, Lucas and Cou starting. I think Cou already had two weeks of training as of now so he can start.
I think we can not play the same thing we played against WBA but I am sure BR would tinker a bit and change it...I have faith in BR for big games.

Re: Arsenal-Liverpool Discussion
My personal preference for this game
But we'll probably see Skrtel for Agger and Cissokho for Enrique. I wouldn't start Cou as it's only his first game back. Let him come off the bench and play against a tired defense I say.
Mignolet
Toure - Agger - Sakho
Lucas
Johnson - Gerrard - Hendo - Enrique
-------------------------------
Suarez - Sturridge

Re: Arsenal-Liverpool Discussion
We'll most probably play the same team which we played against Brums.. I have no problems with that.
I think Arsenal are favorites for this game obviously but I don't think Mertesacker-Koscielny will be able to contain Suarez and Sturridge. We MUST make the most of it.

Head says we won't see the ball in our attacking third, heart believes that our forward talent will nick us a goal or two anyway.

Re: Arsenal-Liverpool Discussion
I'm expecting some thing like this
----------Mignolet----------
----Toure-Agger-Shako----
Glen-----Lucas-----Enrique
----Gerrard-Henderson----
-----Sturridge-Suarez------
I don't know if Agger & Enrique has any fitness issues, but if they have Skrtel & Cissoko will take their places. Coutinho shouldn't be more than a sub.
Yes I know Macggi has already said whatever I mentioned. Talk about great minds :-p
