Stephan El Shaarawy! Empty Stephan El Shaarawy!

Post by :{Mr.Mustachio! Mon Jun 06, 2011 12:16 pm

In Brazil they have Neymar, in England they have Wilshere and in Germany the have Gotze...

In Italy we have El Sharawaay. But sadly even a crystalline talent such as his is ignored as the stubborn policy of Italian clubs towards seemingly exclusively Italian youth players is upheld. Italian players, in particular young promises, have become somewhat a 'dirty' or even a joke commodity.

Co-owned by Genoa and quite stupidly loaned out by Genoa to Padova Calcio, once a stepping stone for one youngster, namely 'Alessandro Del Piero'. Of late Padova haven't been up to much, infact they were earmarked as relegation contenders; by definition a frail player wholly flair and technically based player, the at the time 17 year old El Sharawaay was expected to have very little; if any, impact whatsoever.

Early in the season all was at it should be, the youngster rode the bench and Padova languished at the foot of the table. But things soon picked up, he got game time and a flurry of goals, assists and exciting displays duly followed.

This spell was unfortunately cut short by injury and many experts believed that with him nit featuring in Padova (and not least Genoa's!) plans at the midway point of the season, well, his campaign was effectively over...

Fast forward a few months >>>>

Fantastic double in yesterday's semi-final second leg play off against Varese...

Well, he came back stronger and with hunger, confidence a determination he didn't posses before. Now Padova's fulcrum, star player, their talisman and quite literally their messiah. In the second half of the season he has dragged Padova from the lower reaches of the table, through the midtable, all the way to the top and a before unthinkable play off place.

Absolute fenomenon in the second half of the season, not only one of the best youngsters in Serie B, one of the best players fullstop.

First goal was pure class. His technique, in that particular shot, reminded me of a goal that Henry took (Of course, Henry's was better ,but you get the Wink )

The level of these teams is actually quite impressive

I sincerely hope so.

For now two things are certain, he will play in Serie A next season and probbably won't remain a Genoa player for long.

The big Italian sides are hot on his tail, a certain coach in north London has been interested in the past and also the Spanish big two are keeping tabs.

Well, one of these clubs is going to Seria A and the defending for the goals wasn't exactly good.

Indeed. I watch quite a bit, not just because on occasion it is very entertaining and of a good standard, but because this really is a hotbed of Italian youngsters.

Not necessarily. Padova still need to play against Novara and the winner of that match will go to A. Varese is now out.

That second statement, you base it on a Serie B game? A play off too where tension is high and mistakes are easily made? Wow...

Really? Wenger, Real and Barca interested? I guess he has made a name for himself. Italy lack hot prospects out there, I don't think he should move to a big club this soon.

Padova won through to the play of final against Novara (who themselves dispatched of Reggina) as they already played the first leg winning 1-0.

Some of these offensive moves (like the second goal) were quite impressive
But then some of the defending (like for the last goal) was simply atrocious.

I'm not coming up with a conclusion from this match, but more of a general analysis of Seria A teams now

Wenger was linked with a move like a year back, I posted it in the Arsenal section and they were like "LUWUT? Who da f***?! The asking price was like €5M at that point.

Its probbably doubled by now...at least.

Real were mentioned a few weeks back, but with your depth I think it's a little fanciful. As fo Barca they had scouts at a game for him, as reported in Italian media.

So your analyzing Serie A partly by using a YouTube video of a Serie B game?

Very impressive goals, though a video of his movement and touches throughout the game, both positive and negative, would be more useful to guage his quality. Looks potentially very exciting though, hopefully he, Fabbrini, Pasquato and Verdi all get chances next season in Serie A.

Also Legati who scored Padova's second goal is a former Milan player who never made it, it was nice to see him grab a goal.

Calvano and Fossati are the most likely to get promotions next season. Verdi should be loaned out to midtable club, WITHOUT an option to buy, just like Didac Villa.

He's Italian, so no-one makes those fanboy videos Wink

But let me say, let's be under no impressions that this guy is just the scorer of the odd good goal. He's made assists and some of his dribbles have been great.

He's not perfect, but from a 18 year old you cant expect much more.

I'm hoping a willing, brave team will take on several talents and give them a chance. A team like Bari needed a brave coach to avoid relegation, one who wouldn't persist with a failing formula even when players such as Crimi and D'Allessandro often did more in their twenty minute substitute appearance than the whole team had prior to the move. Inevitably however we should be moving towards either reserve teams participating in Serie B or follow the Bundesliga's example and create legislation which determines that each team must field at least two players eligible for the U-21 squad at all times or similar measures.
