@The Franchise wrote:I think its only a star driven league in terms of how the NBA market it, but nothing else. I think the best team wins nearly every year.

This.

Take last year for example, Miami didn't win because of star power.

They won because Spurs choked and their role players executed when it mattered.

Had f*ck all to do with star power.

Same with the mavs in 2011, did they have more star power than Miami? Like f*ck they did they just executed their plans when it mattered.

Also before anyone mentions Jordan it just so happens that not only did the Bulls have the best player the best team also with role players who executed.

That's what it's always been about, team to has fantastic chemistry at both ends, execute their plans and have consistent production off the bench.

It just so happens teams that have won have had stars too, but its not that simple.

That's a unfair comparison lol.

I think the majority of football teams can survive with a bunch of normal guys playing good football.

But I think any real concept of good basketball, I think really revolves around having a star capable of creating something and consistently drawing defences.\

I'm not devaluing role players and teams etc - but more saying that in the NBA, being a star happens very very naturally. Pretty much any team you look at has that guy. Whereas in other team sports, it's not as necessary.

2011 was a one off, it was the Heat's first season together and yeah I don't know wtf LeBron was doing in that series.. The Spurs last year were actually a better 'team' IMO, but it came down to one game for all the marbles and LeBron and D-Wade stepped up and carried the squad to the Championship

Besides that, the last team to win without any superstar was the '04 Pistons..

Superstars have the ball in their hands more in basketball, and have freedom to decide games.. Of course the team has to be some what great to make it to the finals, but Superstars make the difference

So much revisionist history bollocks Laughing

Heat won because of Spurs choking FTs and Miami winning rebounds.

Not because of superstars turning up rofl

Hell people were critising Wade and Lebron all series Laughing

Heat fans and their selective memory rofl

Of course for you it comes down to missing free throws in game 6 Laughing, what about Parkers lucky shot to win game 1 though? Or his lucky three at the end of game 6 to maintain the lead when LeBron was in beast mode?

Throw out all the BS and it came down to 1 game bro.. In a 1 game winner takes all, the Superstars are the favorites :coffee:

That's extreme selectivity.

It did not come down to just FTs and Rebounds.

Well it clearly did as those FTs made and its Spurs championship.

Can twist it anyway you like but that's the brunt of it..

So really the superstars thing is a load of crap....its about the intangibles and Spurs choked.

Hell all anyone talked about till game 7 was how Spurs defended Lebron and how he looked a shadow of himself.

But no lets revise history and claim it was Miami's superstars who were the difference when it really really wasn't.

Complete and utter garbage. That's Skip Bayless talk.

It's just like when people said Tebow won games for the Broncos, completely ignoring the other factors in all those games.

But no, the sensationalist headline of 'they choked', 'he couldn't get it done', 'he didn't take over' etc, all that bull crap instead of actually looking at what happened over those games.

LeBron shot 44-45% against spurs in the finals, if that's stepping up, then we have completely different definitions of what that means. He shot 4 more attemps per game than he did in the regular season and scored 2 points less. Assist numbers were the same and rebounds up by two. Stepping up usually means you perform better than when you're "coasting". He was really bad in game 6, and needed Ray Allen to bail him out with one of the greatest plays in nba finals history.
Overall Miami's team performed better than SA, and they won because of it. That superstar crap is bs tbh, atleast if you haven't got good role players to make the team complete.

................... They were the difference in Game 7 i.e. they were the difference between winning or losing the Championship

Bron and Wade didn't play great every game, but they were good in the games that they won.. i.e. Wade being the difference in Game 3 I believe it was (or maybe game 4), Bron in Game 7 etc

Embiid per 40 min numbers:

4.9 blocks
3.9 offensive rebounds
9.2 defensive rebounds
68% FGs

Only Olajuwon and Mutombo have posted similar numbers in the past 40 years..

In college?

Cause Olajuwon only averaged 8, 6 and slightly more than 2 blocks a game as a freshman.

Embiid has been talking about staying in school.. Mad I don't know how you turn down a top 3 pick and 5-6 mill or w/e though

Ginobili choked with those two misses, he's better than that. Kawaii, not gonna say he choked.

I mean sure there's the one Ray Allen play, but LeBron also hit a big three moments before that to cut it to two I believe.

They probably don't win without that shot. They don't win without Wade in game 4 and 7. They definitely don't win without the Bosh offensive rebound, and obviously Ray's shot.

It was a textbook team win. I'm not even sure what the argument is Laughing but that's my thoughts

I haven't watched any College ball in a long time but from what i have watched in the past i get the feeling that there's ALOT who leave far too early because of the opportunity of playing in the NBA.

I don't blame them tbf as its basically saying " mum/dad i made it !" but i do feel in a lot cases it would self some better if they stayed in college an extra year.

Not easy to turn down all that money among other things obviously though.

Rudy Gay injured his achilles, and then right after Cousins injured his ankle. Both left the game

Sucks for Kings fans(and my fantasy team)

Didn't Olajuwon practically start playing basketball in College?

I don't understand why someone should stay in college tbh, it's just as good to improve your game in the pros. In college a lot of the players can be so physically dominant that they never develop their skills. Another year in college won't help them, the only thing that will help them, is a good work ethic and a will to improve their skillset.

The Fantasy update account i follow said Cousins is a "moderate ankle sprain" so i doubt he'll be out for too long.

Gay on the other hand might be a different story as its achilles and you can never be too careful with that.

Yeah x-rays negative on DMC, day to day. And Rudy it looked to me like a strained achilles but Kings are saying it may not be too serious.

I think the extra year in college can be beneficial in terms of maturing and dealing with having millions of dollars thrown at you. It all depends on the player/person...if you go to a school with a strong coach, I'm sure he can better prepare you for the NBA.
