Real Madrid predicted lineup:

--------------Diego Lopez
---Carvajal--Pepe---Ramos---Marcelo
--------Modric--Alonso---Di Maria
--------Bale--------------Ronaldo
----------------Benzema

Ancelotti pre match:

Carlo Ancelotti appeared before the media the day before the league match against Atlético. The Italian coach discussed the derby, which takes place in the Vicente Calderón: “It will be an intense match, but that is normal. It will be difficult and complicated, but we are going to try and play our game as well as possible. To beat Atlético we have to play with courage and personality. We have to be at our best both in defence and attack. It is a long season and we still have a lot of games left. Nothing is final at this point”.

“Pressure is normal in this match and you have to deal with it. First because it's a derby, and then because it is between two teams who are in the fight for La Liga and also because they're big teams. We have a three-point advantage and you could say that we are favourites, but they also are because they have the home advantage and everyone knows that their fans help them”.

His team's spectacular form
“There's no specific recipe. We have to be careful because things can change quickly in football. You have to do everything to keep the form going”.

“We are not thinking of the treble because we have a lot of matches to go. It is difficult to win the matches and we have to concentrate on one match at a time. We have an important league game and it would not be good to think about winning everything at the moment”.

Simeone's work
“I think he is doing a fantastic job and his team has won a lot of titles thanks to his work. A coach teaches his team his own virtues and Atlético has its own identity thanks to his work”.

I HAVE A VERY PROFESSIONAL SQUAD THAT KNOWS THE MEANING OF TEAMWORK.

“Statistics do not affect this kind of game. The other day we did not have a good history in Germany and we won. Statistics don't tell me anything and tomorrow will be a different game”.

Changes in defence
“Varane is fine, but I am not going to publish my team-sheet today. Tomorrow I will make a decision and I'll put out the best team. The whole squad is fine and available to play. That is the important thing”.

“Arbeloa has proved he is fit and very focused. He is great defensively and if he continues like that he will have a good chance of going to the World Cup. He really wants to go”.

Bale and Benzema's form
“Bale is starting to get back to a really good level of fitness. After his great goal against Elche he played well against Schalke. His confidence is growing, and he is combining well with the rest of the team”.

“Benzema is maintaining his quality. He has a fantastic ability to find the net and is not just a striker but also a provider, he helps the team in possession, he is comfortable and he pressures the opposition. I hope he continues like that”.

The importance of Xabi Alonso
“Xabi has the ability and intelligence to play in any system. His position is very important for the balance of the team, but the reality is that all the strikers are working well on winning the ball back and pressuring up front. That helps the whole team”.

Khedira's recovery
“We are feeling the absence of Khedira because he is an important player. He is recovering well and he has started to run. Everything is going well and in 15 or 20 days he will return to Madrid and start to work with the team. Let's hope he can play before the end of the season. There is a lot of competition in the centre of the pitch and making a choice with Khedira is not easy, it is even more difficult without him”.

Prediction:

Atletico Madrid 1-2 Real Madrid

Do or die. Win this and we effectively eliminate Atleti from the title race and strike a blow to Barca's hopes of us dropping points, lose and all of the momentum we have created will go to waste and we will be forced to better barcas score against us to have a superior head to head if it eventually comes doen to that

Tbh out of all fixtures we have left I am only worried about Sociedad and Sevilla away. We should beat Atleti whose lack of rotation has really taken its toll on them

Many players had a below average match, but the flop was Carlo. Cacktrao should never wear this shirt again. Marcelo is a must, because no one in our team can connect the attack and defense like him.

It's really hard to play football in such games. Atletico plays the most disgusting football in the world atm. kick and kick and kick. ref was shite too. Pepe you disgusting c*nt. Ramos was shite again.

Carlo made a mistake by benching Marcelo and Carvajal. he realized it in second half. Coentrao and Arbeloa should never start instead of Marcelo and Carvajal.

Benching Iker for Lopez Laughing .

Carlo wasted two subs on...........defenders. What a fack up by him, I don't even know what he was thinking before the game. Rotation??? tactics??? felt like it??? seriously this draw is on him

anyways credit to the team for never giving up. We will still be first after Barca's game

also this reff looked inexperienced. 3 mins after the argument with Atleti's gk coach?? blowing at 2:57 seriously. Another 2 minutes and we could've won, just a damn shame we wasted so long by playing so crap for the first 60 or so minutes

As usual, Atletico was great. One bank of 4, another bank of 5 and the wonderful Costa doing his thing, can't fault their performance one bit. It was made easier since Carlo confused the starting line up as I'm sure he thought this was a practice session and not a top of the league table clash.

Don't worry Carlo, we all make mistakes.

Sadly for Carlo he's picked up something of a habit of making mistakes in big games.

We got sucked in by Atleti dirty play. All in all a draw at the Calderon under the circumstances is a reasonable result but we could have built up a great lead at the top and focus on the champions league, we can't do that now.

Last time we played Atletico, Arbeloa and Coentrao played and we won 3-0. Problem this game was we struggled with the high pressing, whereas in the 3-0 win Atletico didn't press high. Dealing with high pressure still seems to be an underlying problem that is yet to be fixed.

Coentrao and Arbeloa played at home, so of course Atleti would drop deep. This game had completely different circumstances because it was at the Calderon.

I would have understood playing Arbeloa and Marcelo playing on the other side but when both Arbeloa and Coentrao (how did we pay 30 million for this piece of shite?) played our midfield had no outlet pass, Atleti ate that up. Of course once Ramos and Pepe started worrying about covering for the flanks our defence completely fell apart in the first half.

Calro got schooled tonight, he should thank his lucky stars that he has Cristiano (or any other quality player that has saved his ass this season with last minute goals) on the team.

Coentrao must be a bigger flop than Kaka. At least the latter didn't cost us a CL

Ancelotti!! Arbeloa and Coentrao!! Like seriosly!!
Arbeloa is still understable but coentrao!!!!!
This guy has to be the worst player since Julien Faubert!
Faubert still had his moments.

Why would Ancelotti decide to play players out of position in his biggest matches.
Playing Coentrao in a real match is playing him out of position. His poistion is not even on the bench, it is away from madrid!

Also, what happened to the team? They were playing against atletico as if they had come up against a team they have only won against them twice since 1999.
Where did that fear and annoying mourinho cautious attitude come from?

We lost two points and it wasn't down to atletico's brilliance, rather, our own failure.

I hope Ancelotti has learnt his lesson and realised that the team's need is above any player and he has to throw away his reputation of keeping his players happy and field the best eleven when they are fit.

The manner of the draw is just annoying!!

I hope we can also see that our team's defensive record hasn't been down to the centre backs, rather, the whole team's defensive contribution and it was their inability to close down the players that led to the two goals.

Pepe and Sergio Ramos are only a good centre back pairing in matches we have complete control of.
They both lose their composure in high pressure matches and Ancelotti would be wise to start getting Varane back to his best cos we would be needing his calmness in d biggest matches.

Modric was also annoyingly and irritatingly slow today! He played like a stomper (Epic Animation)

We still got a point guys.. calm down! a point is all we needed mathematically.. 1 or 3 would do the same. Now we just have to cruise the season..

Re: El Derbi madrileño: Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid discussion

Carlo Ancelotti has described Atletico Madrid’s approach in the derby against Real Madrid as ‘violent’.

The sides played out a 2-2 draw that was marked by a number of on and off-the-ball altercations and Ancelotti said at his post-match Press conference that Atleti’s style of play was ‘rude’.

Asked by a reporter to explain if he meant intense or violent, Ancelotti replied that he meant the latter.

“I mean Atletico tried to play a violent match, not our style,” the Italian confirmed.

“[Our response] was just to play, to think only of playing and not other things.

“We must take the draw. It was a difficult game. We tried to play but it was not so easy.

“Our second half was very good. In the first half, after [Karim Benzema’s] goal, we tried to defend high up but we let Atletico back into the game.

“Atletico had more difficulty in the second half because we moved the ball across our front line, left to right.

“We were not patient in the first half. They got tired in the second.

“We lost the ball too easily in the first half, that’s why Atletico could get into the game.”

Ancelotti also explained his reasoning behind starting Alvaro Arbeloa and Fabio Coentrao at full-back before bringing on both Marcelo and Dani Carvajal.

“Arbeloa and Coentrao were fresh,” Ancelotti said.

“So I started them, then in the last 30 minutes we needed more pressure on the wings so I brought on Marcelo and Carvajal.

“The wrong line-up? No one thinks about what players line up more than me.”

Ancelotti added that he was happy with the result and believes it leaves Madrid well-placed for the rest of the season.

“We’ve drawn a game we were losing. We can be happy with that.

“Atletico are a great team, especially at home.

“Now we are leading the table and we’ve got seven more home games and five away, so we must consider this as well.”

well, carlo and the team should be prepared for these kind of games...not every team is going to play against madrid like schalke and leave open spaces in their defense for us to exploit, some teams will be physical, some teams will look to hold unto the ball more and pressure high, and some teams will not bother showing up. to achieve our goals this season and beyond, we must be prepared and ready for any of such teams regardless of their approach. hala madrid

Lopez, Arbeloa and Coentrao screwed us big time in this game.

Lopez because he failed to make two regulation saves which would of kept us in the hunt for 3 points.

Coentrao for not having a single pass in the attacking third (*bleep* sell this pos already)

Arbeloa for the same reason.

I can expect it from Arbeloa but from Coentrao? He just seems to hate playing for us.

Consequently we could not spread the play wide because both our full backs were screwing the pooch and being forced narrow, Ronaldo and Bale could not be played in because of this, just destroyed our entire structure, put too much pressure on the centre mids.

Just terrible.

Some numbers to contemplate:

Marcelo and Carvajal - 50mins played total
2 chances created and 6 crosses into the box
16 out of 23 passes connecting in the final third (Marcelo 13 from 18)

Arbeloa and Coentrao - 130mins played total
0 chances created and 0 crosses into the box
4 out of 7 passes connecting in the attacking third (Coentrao 0 from 2

Coentrao should never play for madrid.
Its just surprising how we keep hearing in the news that top teams likes manchester united, inter, milan are after this guy...
Like seriously!!!

Now, the pressure is on us and off barca and it was very obvious during the game.

I am very sure if we were in the 2nd or 3rd position before this game, we would have played with more urgency.
Now, all we would be trying to do is play it safe and protect our leads which always, I mean alwaysss turns out to be the wrong decision.

This is not 2009 when u could sit back to defend your lead or expect to steer the game to a safe end. It just doesn't work anymore.

We tried it against barca at d beginning of d season and dey scored against us. We didn't score until we came out.

We tried it against bayern 2 seasons ago, it hurt us.

We were conservative against madrid yday, dey scored two against us.

I hope we don't lose dis league cos we and d press av been raving about how this is d best madrid team in years, while everybody has been saying this is d worst barca in recent years.
If we cant usurp the worst barca to the league title, den dat wud be a shame
