It was a foul, what makes it so frustrating is that the linesman actually saw it, don't know why the referee decided not to believe him............

Anyway, it's a difficult game, West Ham give us so little space in attack.

Goddamnit, I thought West Ham might give us a tough game, but didn't expect a two-penalties-needed-to-win tough! Then again, their goal shouldn't have stood and Armero got away with two self-inflicted hand balls in the area!

Woah, what a happy, relieved feeling this is... Three points come back to Merseyside and that's what matters!

Gerrard, Skrtel, Suarez and Sterling our best players, imho.

I mean, I know that no Hammers player has actual pace, but what about that Sterling kid? The way he accelerated away from the claret-&-blue players time and again was just incredible. Another strong performance by him in that central role, btw, after Coutinho went off.

Can't remember the last time I've seen a defender win so many aerial duels against Carroll than Skrtel did today.

Gerrard with two fantastic penalties!

And Suarez was a continuous pest, argueably should have had more than one penalty.

Woooooooh, a narrow win but a win it is!

This must be what childbirth feels like for women. The rollercoaster of emotions has me absolutely dead knackered.

The closer we get, the more surreal it feels. There were a couple of moments in the game where my eyes teared up. When we do win the title I'm gonna be weeping like a baby.

Gerrard MOTM. The balls on that man to have that sort of composure to score two pens in one match.

Sterling is out of this world. Said it months ago, but he really is Robbery put into one. The sky is the limit for this kid. Smile

yes Sterling was awesome in this match. The word Robbery really is striking correct for him. He has space, plus can dribble, his runs, plus can unlock the defense with pretty decent passes. You just have to imagine that BR substitutes Coutinho but not Sterling and in the end he was helping Suarez playing up there. BR deserves a lot of credit for this and I think we have got a real top class manager in Brendan.

I was delighted to see him take on a shot from outside the box, and a good shot it was, too  pirat

Should look to do that more often.

I think he used to shoot before and that was always going either wide or a lame shot .But he has concentrated on other aspects of his game. That is quite a structured development that he is going under BR, that shot was good to see coming from Sterling.

Lucas pass to Flanagan also needs some recognition but he's Brazilian so it should be the norm. :coffee:

Difficult to comment on the performance of this game. On one hand we looked very predictable and lacked composure in our attack, resorting to individual attempts at brilliance due to the lack of ideas coming from the midfield. Yet on the other hand we knew what to expect from a typically negative English manager in the form of Sam Allardyce, who wouldn't exactly open up spaces for us especially in Upton Park.

There was so little space in the centre as it surprised me how we didn't use more of the width considering everyone was gathering centre. Flanagan and the Johnson of today are below-average fullbacks in the attacking end and Flano's defensive performance or Johnson getting nutmegged by Stewart Clowning always gave me worry during their own exploitation of width.

We spent half the game anticipating the referee to protect us, not understanding how poor officiating really is within this league, and the rest of it not learning from the mistakes of the 1st half. Fortunately, Steven Gerrard with his nerves of steel covered up on what was quite a poor performance from us.

Defensively I was quite happy and it made me realize Carroll really is average, if he could not even beat our CBs in the air, given that is his main strength. Rodger's change to deploy 3 CBs deep directly responsive to West Ham's deployment of Carroll and Cole was brilliant. A very confident move on his part.

3 points taken in the end. We'll need to improve beyond our so far handful of strengths if we want to beat City. This "We Will Win the League" charade is cute but won't be when better teams expose our serious weaknesses.

I was pissing myself when he did this. Right prior to this he headed the ball back to Mignolet and almost scored an own goal that made my heart skip a beat and then he goes on to tell his team mates to calm down Laughing

.

West Ham away is a cancer of a fixture to be honest.

Gerrard said they made our bus to park 1 mile away from the ground, so players had to walk. then he said our dressing room was unusually dry, and the pitch hadn't been watered in days to ruin our passing game.

We not only beat WestHam on the pitch, but off of it as well. It was a Champion's win.

I am very confident about the City game next week. They won't know what hit them.

Yeah, when I saw that header of his looping towards our top corner I was already thinking "right, here we go again...", but luckily he didn't put enough power on it...

@Sep: I did not know that Sepi and thanks for sharing that. If true those are some disgracefully unethical tactics by West Ham as I can only imagine Gerrard thriving on the petty challenge presented.

So in retrospect it truly was a champions win as you say.

City? Chelsea scare me more yet lets hope for the best.
