I read it on Swiss Ramble a few weeks ago actually..Top Clubs would receive much lesser TV revenue than what they used to but it would still slightly favor them. Not so much parity as compared to Bundesliga and PL though.

Years of protest at this lack of a level playing field finally led to a new collective agreement being implemented at the beginning of the 2010/11 season. There is a complicated distribution formula, which still favours the bigger clubs, though the result is a clear reduction at the top end. Under the new regulations, 40% will be divided equally among the Serie A clubs; 30% is based on past results (5% last season, 15% last 5 years, 10% from 1946 to the sixth season before last); and 30% is based on the population of the club’s city (5%) and the number of fans (25%).

I think thats good though....It incentivizes performance to a greater extent

You want the deal to be fair, but you also don't want to reward teams for mediocre or "just good enough" seasons...

There should be a very strong incentive for teams to try to finish 6th instead of 12th, etc...In the EPL theres only a 5 million pound difference in the "merit" payment between the two

If Spanish teams had the tv money of the prem plus 2 oil money teams would la liga be amazing

Post by Ruben Pardo on Tue Mar 11, 2014 6:19 pm

La liga teams are very used to spending small and finding gems, if you ask me, i think la liga would be far beyond any league in the world with the money the prem gets.

Imagine Villarreal and Sevilla get taken over by Oil Sheiks

Sociedad, Valencia, Atletico, Real Betis, Espanyol, Malaga all getting decent money

of course the big 2 would be there also

Bilbao is pretty strong regardless of not being able to buy outside the Basque country

Look no further than the UEFA coefficient table

next season:

Spain
Germany
England

If Spanish clubs had more money, their corrupt-as-balls FA & League would funnel all that money to Real and Barca, who already have all the money they need, so nothing would change, unless Bale and Nerman have a twin somewhere, or someone wants to outfit the entire squad with platinum cups.

The men who run La Liga had its chance to be as big as how the EPL is now and blew it Brazzer style. Sadly, you can give them all the money in the world and that would not help them even get fixtures right, far less for running the league.

Errr no...

The reason La Liga is dominated by Madrid and Barca isn't because of TV money like the myth goes its because the the contenders/pretenders were horribly mismanaged.

Deportivo, Betis, Valencia etc etc and so on could have competed for decades but they chose to self destruct but managed their finance horribly.

Even Atleti right now need to sell to buy every year because of previous awful management..... La Liga clubs have no one but their selves to blame for not being to compete.

Not Madrid, Not Barca, not the Spanish FA, not the TV rights.... themselves and only themselves.

It's nice to dream though.

You'd get mercenaries who play La Liga without love for the shirt.

I'm not saying the league quality would decrease, of course it will improve but not very different from PL.

Also as Viva said, Spanish FA is corrupt as well. You also have owners with bad fame such as Del Nido & Rossel. Valencia even are where they are right now because of a certain owner who decided to build a stadium with no funds.

So what you're telling me basically is that 45 million to the team who finishes last wouldn't help that la liga team?...oh plus the para shoot payments........not buying it personally, money is the big factor here.

There is a name to describe Englishmen who are "adopted" by Spain, can't remember. Anyway, Mole said all that needs to be said on this though his dismissal of the Spanish FA is wrong, they are also very much part of the problem...

Some extra bit of money from Television rights would still help these clubs though...

Well Doc they clearly are a problem Laughing as they are so freaking inept.

But the biggest issue as to why these clubs went from CL success like Depor to the 2nd division? nah, they could have helped but clubs like Depor mismanaging the club they way they did is why they are in the mess they are in.

Money can be a solution to mismanagement. How did Newcastle come back to where they are?

The more pertinent question is; how did they get where they were to have to come back?

Scouting cheap or forgotten, talented players for profit.

Besides the TV money as of right now hasn't made as much of an impact in the PL as people like to think.

All it has done has allowed the mid table clubs to spend on players they couldn't have done before.... and surprise surprise they have chosen to buy very average players for the most part.

So again we are back to the word "management" money is great but if you don't use it properly its a waste of time.

Norwich spent a lot of money on some real crap and they are not the only ones, which La Liga clubs used to do and regularly.

Money would make a difference if these clubs in question actually managed it properly and got quality within the budget.

But the past tells us that is highly unlikely, so i don't think it will make a massive difference.

If anything it could be argued that in the PL all TV money has done has kept the big teams at the top and the rest at arms length, in the early 2000s you had legitimate 6 or 7 teams who could win the league in the PL and now its 3 or 4 max and that will probably dwindle down to 2 over the coming seasons.

Just like Financial Fair Play, increased TV money if anything just make sure the bigger teams stay at the top and create the monopoly.

Money either hides your mismanagement or enhances it. Enough examples in this world to tell you that.

And how many big teams does the PL have.

In my count it's 6 or 7, atm. And to me it's no surprise that even now the PL has the most candidates to win the title.

In La Liga as things stand RM should start pulling away due to Barca and Atletico's inconsistency.

Serie A: Juve. Though I'll give a shout out to the Roman's for starting so well.

Bundesliga: Bayern 20 points ahead, nuff said.

Ligue 1: Monaco, Marseille, Lille, and Lyon aren't @ PSG's level yet.

It would certainly be more competitive. You would have to hope the owners would be committed and would spend as much as they can to get the best team. However I still think it would take a while for anyone to get up to the level of Real Madrid/Barca. The quality of those squads are on another level. Even current top European team would struggle against them.

Top teams struggle against each other and more so if their levels are closer to each other.

You don't need to have teams at Barca or RM level to be up there with them. Heck, look @ Atletico, right now. They're a living example of what I mean. Now if you had more teams @ the level of Atletico and well led to top it off you wouldn't see such a big gap between Barca and RM to the rest as in previous years.

I'd say 3 or 4 max and two of them are oil money clubs so obviously not part of the same debate.

Give any league Abrahimovic type money and you would have more challengers that's obvious.

That's not what i'm arguing here though, more that the tv money doesn't have as much impact as people are led to believe.

Clever and ambitious managements are the real key to it all, if you don't have it as Valencia proved you can't retain long periods of success no matter how much tv money is around.

I don't discriminate how clubs get big or how long a club stays big for. A big club is a club who has a great potential for success.

TV money rights alone won't change much, I'll agree there, especially in a short run but give it time and you'll see what Barca and RM are today. They are the end result of what happens when money and popularity from TV rights are accumulated over a long period of time.
