Hapless_Hans wrote:I don't know for sure tbh.
This question needs to be settled, I thought I read that UEFA got rid of the "no more than 4 teams from one country" rule with these recent changes as well.
I already explained it in the other thread but basically PL/LaLiga/Bundi will be allowed 5 teams in CL next season if the winner of EL this season is from their leagues provided they didn't already get into top 4.

Stjarnan-Inter is such a romantic tie.
Stjarnan is from a very small icelandic city (I went there )....the capacity of their stadium is 1000 !!! THEY ARE UNBEATEN IN EUROPE in 6 games !!
man...it's an absolute miracle they've made it this far. Really hope Inter doesn't embarrass them
Their yearly budget is less than what Messi/CR earn each training session....

Serie A gonna do a Bundesliga and try and rack up as much as co-eff points as possible now that we know that the winner gets a CL entry.
This shit league could finally be 'back'

lol that's what I was thinking. We never win the CL anyways. Might as well drop down to EL and win it for the banter and get a Cl spot while at it

Talking about the same subject, what happens if for example Arsenal win the EL AND earn an entry into the CL through their league position ?
The EL finalist will get a CL spot then ?

I think so. That's what normally happens in FA Cup but this is the first time with this new rule so not really sure. But it would make sense to give it to the finalist.
Just realised Benfica are ahead of us in the co-efficient and we are nearly out of the pot 1 Time to smash EL

No!!
If the winner of EL is already in CL through league then there's really nothing to talk about. The finalist doesn't get shit. Only winner.

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
Unfair to who?
UEFA are giving the winner of EL the chance to play in CL if they don't get it through their league.
How is that unfair?
The rule is you have to win the competition. No one cares about runners-up.

Suppose Napoli wins the EL for the next 3 years and they keep finishing top 3 of Serie A anyways. What is the point of this rule then?

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
What a beatiful story anyway . Just reading this interview to a Stjarnan player.
I will try to translate in English
http://gianlucadimarzio.com/inter/eysteinsson-difensore-ingegnere-dello-stjarnan-noi-universitari-e-lavoratori-vi-racconto-le-nostre-esultanze-sognando-vidic/
An engineer at the San Siro. With the anthem of Europa League. No, there are no technical projects on the horizon. There is the Stjarnan, a stadium of thousand places in the Icelandic town with 13 000 inhabitants, with the dream to play against Inter became true . " It seems to be into a dream ...", tells Bjarki Pall Eysteinsson. Engineer old 28 years, on Sunday he's defender for Stjarnan that will battle against Inter in Europa League playoff. A real fairy tale ...
We can call it fable, Bjarki.
"Absolutely yes, it's fantastic to play against Inter."
What did you think when you did you see the draw?
"I was speechless, a mix of happiness and disbelief. Think about what it means for us, we play in a stadium with a thousand places, to think that in a few days we will be in a monument of football as San Siro. "
what did you listen about Inter in these years ?
" "So many fantastic things. For me Javier Zanetti is a God , the fans are amazing, we are talking about a Giant club. Here in Iceland we follow much the Italian football, playing against the Inter is a dream. "
Especially for who is not just a football player in the life ...
" Exactly I am a professional engineer, many my teammates are working during the week. Some are attendants at stadium, some help the academy of club, or who works every day in the city. And not only ... "..
There is other?
"The team is very young, many kids are still at school. Who at college, who at the University. Now, we will play at San Siro (he smiles, ed). "
Where you can try some your crazy celebrations ...
They were wonderful ideas. We had fun much to do it, the fans were delighted, then the whole web talked about it " .
And you became famous evenabout your "crazy" side. What's your favourite celebration ?
"Well, salmon fishing and human bike were really wonderful (laughs)"
A goal at the San Siro and so on with the show. But Eysteinsson what Inter player would you ask the kit?
"I have no doubts : Nemanja Vidic. IHe is an incredible player, an absolute God for me . I support Manchester United, Ryan Giggs is the best for me but Vidic is a legend. I can not wait to play against him "

Good for them then.
The point of this rule is IF the winner doesn't make CL through their league then they get CL by winning this comp. There's nothing unfair or negative about it. It's a great rule.
The point of this rule is NOT to add an extra team to CL. The point is to give the winner of this competition some great reward.

I agree. I like this rule too. It just gives an extra incentive for everyone to value the competition.

EL is becoming a bit more serious btw... if you make it to pool, you get paid 7 mil guaranted and that's expected to go up to 10+ mil next season. If you make elimination rounds, the numbers doubles.
Clubs will start taking this seriously like they used to 20-25 years ago.

Will the winner of this Europa be awarded a UCL spot next season? Or is that for the following tournament when that takes effect?

Re: Europa League 2014-15 - Pt.1
So how are they gonna handle that?
Lets say Chelsea wins the UCL.
Spurs win the Europa
But chelsea finishes 8th in the EPL and Spurs finish 9th
So next year the top 4 in EPL will go into the UCL, + the defending UCL champions and the Europa league champons = 6 spots for EPL? How is that gonna work?

I answered that in another thread
Don't call me James wrote:No not this time Robes
This time if an English team wins EL and don't make top 4 in the league then FIVE English will be allowed to enter CL.
Only way 4th doesn't get CL is:
- Liverpool/Arsenal/Chelsea/City wins CL this season but don't make top 4 in PL
- Spurs/Everton win EL but don't make top 4 in PL.
Then Top 3 in PL get CL and winner of CL and EL. And 4th get shit

Yesterday Inter played play off against the Icelandic team and it won 3-0. Inter played yesterday because there is a match of women's football today in that stadium :
Anyway ... today the other play offs
Tottenham is losing to Cyprus.
Dinamo Mosca of Valbuena is losing at its stadium against Omonia , another Cyprian team.
Legia won 0-1 , I hope it hadn't some banned player ffs
