Madness or desperation... maybe both.

£115k/week according to The Times.

I don't think FSG wanted to go into the season without a 'name' coming in. I honestly don't like the buy, id rather save the money, even if it's such a small amount we'll prob get back most from the fabio sale.

You don't just become a disciplined work horse over night, i really hope he proves me wrong.

16m for Balotelli will turn out to be a steal if he keeps his head straight and adds some consistency to his game. It's neither madness nor desperation.

Will prove to be a much better buy than all that wankery which goes on over Lallana, Markovic, etc.

It got that feel of 'Carrol Saga'. Only less costly & less risky (perhaps).

Even if Balotelli doesn't improve on how he played at Milan he's 10x the player Carroll is.

Guys, I am not really arsed if scores 20 goals or he becomes/doesnt become a WC at Anfield, if he is consistent enough or not. Instead of going into the season without a striker, we are starting with a player, who has performed in big matches for Italy and ManCity both, not a bad option if Studge is missing because of injury, instead he may take that challenge to prove everyone wrong. I not worried about his football at all.

I am little worried that he will spoil the atmosphere on the training ground or dressing room but that is the risk you have to take if you cant afford Falcao/Cavani and you still want some a player of that caliber (or can be a WC player) in your team. We very well know what we are getting into, so BR must be having some idea about how he is going to manage him. Desperation and madness, if it is, lets see where we go with him. I just like such arrogant c**t sometimes to have at the club. bounce

Well, Andy Hunter is saying Balotelli is paying a 50% pay cut and will be on 80k/week here. hmm

As for the ones slagging off players who we've signed and haven't even played an official game for us....Do one.

50% cut to BASE SALARY. Depending on which paper you trust that's either £80 (Hunter - Guardian), £90k (Bascombe - Telegraph), or £100k (Pearce - Liverpool Echo) and that's just what is guaranteed. He's getting another £40k/week so long as he behaves and meets performance targets (goals/assists/results/etc). His average salary will thus be £100-120k/week so long as he shows up to training on time and doesn't throw darts at anyone.

This is all good news. He took a pay cut to come play for us, and there's also incentive based money involved as well. Rodgers has only agreed to sign him if he has a meeting similar to how he was with Sturridge.

All of the signs are pointing to this being a very strong, calculated risk that could pay huge dividends for us.

For the moment yes.

But the likes of Sturridge Sterling Coutinho and Henderson are all expected to sign new contracts once the window closes . So most likely DS will be on par with Balo and others closer to the 80K mark

Can we actually confirm that?

I know there is a fair amount of confusion around what Balotelli is being offered in base pay and the incentives that are baked into the contract. For as much as the media are making of this, hasn't this been common practice at the club since FSG arrived?

I was under the impression that almost all contracts were incentive based now. The media appear to be hung up on the fact that Mario's incentives are mainly behavior-based (which I am completely in favor of). However, wouldn't a similar structure be in place for Gerrard, Skrtel, Lucas, etc., meaning that true top earner is difficult to assess. We can easily compare the base salaries, if someone has a reliable source. But, that doesn't give us a true picture of who is earning the most at the club, and I can't imagine that they would publish or leak the incentives for most players.

To be absolutely honest, I'm pretty amazed (impressed) by our dealings during this window (though I'm one who is most weary of Balotelli).

- Sturridge since moving to LFC in Jan 2013 - 36 goals in 50 games
- Balotelli since moving to Milan in Jan 2013 - 30 goals in 54 games

Seriously if Mario did that for us, we'd be loving him as much we are Sturridge. I don't get why his time is being considered a complete failure at Milan.

I saw to play both . Two players totally different . Sturridge was great not only for goals but work rate  support to game etc . Balotelli was basically a lazy  kicker . I mean , you talk rightly about the goals scored but these numbers have to be interpreted.in first year to Milan Balotelli scored 12 goals in 13 matches, but 6 were on penalty kicks , who won't shot in Liverpool.
This year he didn't score so much on action.
of course it doesn't mean he will be a sure failure because he has also qualities ... but This Balotelli seen in Milan wouldn't work to Liverpool  certainly .  And infact even Raiola, who always defend him in these years , was severe with him in last interview

forgive me the intrusion  smoking
