Real Madrid predicted lineup:

---------------Kroos
----------Modric---Isco
-----Bale----------------James
-------------Benzema

Ancelotti pre match:

Carlo Ancelotti appeared in the Ciudad Real Madrid press room. The Italian spoke about the game against Real Sociedad: “We going into the match motivated; we have to keep winning. It's our first away game and we have to win. the Anoeta is always a very difficult place to go, but last year we played well there”.

“We have to keep winning and improving our performance on the field in comparison to last Monday. They are tough opponents who will show their quality. Isco is available to play, as is Khedira. Just Coentrão hasn't fully recovered yet”.

“Cristiano is fine, but we wanted to use this week and the next two weeks to ensure he recovers completely and to get him in top condition to prepare for the games against Atlético and the Champions League. He's not in the matchday squad”.

Market
“I can't confirm anything. The market closes on Monday and something may happen or it may not. Some people might think we don't have many players but it's a very versatile squad and we have every position covered. We virtually have five strikers, because Isco, James and Jesé, who returns soon, can play up front”.

“Until the market closes we can't say whether there will be any new signings. The squad isn't decided. It's not a necessity. If we think a signing could be good to improve the squad we'll do it. If not, the squad is very competitive”.

WE HAVE A VERY COMPETITIVE AND VERSATILE SQUAD.

“I have a very competitive squad. With the three new players, who bring a lot of quality, the team has improved compared to last year. Also because of the work we did last season”.

Xabi Alonso
“He explained it very well; he needed other motivations. Everyone at Madrid has a lot of respect for him. It was very difficult to change his idea and we let him go. With the attitude he has had as a player and as a person it would have been very difficult to tell him he couldn't go. We have to thank him and wish him luck”.

“He was very important in the titles we won last year. We have that position well covered with Kroos and Illarra, who could be very useful this season. Xabi leaving was a surprise because everything was fine; he has made the decision and we are a bit surprised but we respect it. He has been honest with Real Madrid and with himself. We respect him”.

Players wanting to leave
“Every situation is different. Some might want to earn more money, some don't like the competition. When someone wants to leave, I intend to let him, because when you're not motivated to be in the greatest team in the world I'm not going to stop you. Each situation is very different. It can be for motivation, for money, because of the competition…”.

Defensive balance
“I'm not worried. We need time and to get the players used to being in a different position on the field. We won't have a problem finding the balance. I've heard a lot of criticism of the team this week. I understand the criticism but we've received so many that it was as if the team had never won the Champions League in Lisbon and I watched the video again. This team deserves a vote of confidence for what it achieved last year. These players have character and personality and this criticism could be another source of motivation”.

Alonso for Kroos
“I think signing Kroos has improved the quality of the midfield and we signed the best possible midfielder to play with Xabi. Later Xabi surprised everyone and we still have Kroos who is 24 years old and Illarra, who has more space to play in”.

His role in the signings
“We make the decisions together with the chairman, the club, the chief executive. It's a group decision. That's how I have always worked, as Real Madrid has, speaking to the manager to do something good for the club. We are all working to win titles for Real Madrid”.

Ludogorets
“We haven't thought about it. I saw what happened in the preliminary round. It was a very exciting finish. We have time to prepare for the match. Bulgaria have a good footballing history and we'll prepare for it as well as possible”.

If he wanted Kroos to partner Alonso why o why did we buy James which brings me to:

De Thomas has the same confidence as Jese. The guy would go on a solo run if he felt like it which I love but his finishing is poor. I would be confident if he came on as a sub because I know he has all qualities needed to play as a striker for us such as hold up play, link up, prescence in the box, greater header, fast etc but if we bash Benz for missing chances Thomas won't survive a second

La Liga: Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid discussion Empty Re: La Liga: Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid discussion

Post by titosantill Sun Aug 31, 2014 10:15 pm

A few things, Kroos Modric and isco in the middle of the park is suicidal....two of those are central mids, the other is an attacking midfielder, not only that, isco is still too young to adjust to all these positions people put him in on the fly. Think about it, the dude hasn't even mastered his own position well enough, yet we think we can play him in central mid or as a false 9 and it will all be fine and dandy?

two, modric and kroos as a double pivot is also scary, the fact is whether you like it or not, neither of them is a defensive midfielder, at spurs luka had parker behind him, at bayern kroos had schweini or gustavo or javi martinez...the roles of kroos n luka are deep lying play makers, not industrial physical juggernauts.....it would make sense to field both of them with khedira behind them...but we cannot, cos james has to play, we didn't spend 80 mill for him to seat on the bench.

James isn't a winger, he can play there, but there's a difference between been able to play in a position and being a master of it, he is better off behind the striker, than falling victim to being played out of position at such a young age

i'm hearing rumors about chicarito, lol, i hardly rate the guy....in a game like this, bringing chicarito off the bench will do nothing for us...NOTHING, he's the kind of guy who can come off and score when we are in the lead....i'm a big fan of competition, i don't admire having scrubs and players who are happy to seat on the bench at madrid simply cos we think competition is a bad thing

finally, the loss isn't what infuriates me....what does is, we've broken up a system, to spend the beginning of yet another season to search for a system...its now a case of "this project will take some time", yes it will, but it could have been avoided...

we'll spend the first few weeks trying to search for a system that works, and soon we'll find one we can settle with, hopefully by then, it isn't too late and we don't start hearing things like "we are still mathematically in the league", or "our rivals can still drop points".....and is varane injured? y doesn't he play?

I think by change ancelotti means Keylor Navas starting in the next game.

Varane starting. illaramendi should be given a chance as well. this team need someone to organize the line between defense and attack. he is the only one in the side who has done it before, whether good or bad.

But besides formation, ancelotti has to come up with a proper system, how to transition from attack to defense. they dont look like they know how to.

Navas
Carvajal-Varane-Ramos-Marcelo
Illaramendi
Modric-Kroos

Post by shadexticos Mon Sep 01, 2014 9:49 am

Casillas just has to be benched
Pepe has to be benched
Marcelo would never defend unless he plays under a disciplinarian like mourinho

I also have to admit that I was wrong about kroos being better than Alonso..
There is no way he is.
Alonso dictates the pace, he could speed up a game or slow it down
Kroos is just too slow, he makes too many simple passes and slows the game down
His marking is average
His presence also limits modric's propensity to make any telling contribution cos I noticed modric now plays as the eleventh man, he doesn't do anything special anymore; he plays like a benchable player
Alonso released the ball to other players to do the damage while providing defensive cover.

Kroos sometimes tries to do the damage and forces modric to provide defensive cover which I believe limits modric's tendency to do anything special.

Kroos needs to adapt to being a defensive midfielder like alonso
Alonso was a central midfielder before he got to madrid and he adapted his role to suit the team, kroos has to do that or illaramendi should man up.

Benzema is just benzema, only if he could shoot at sight but that is never going to happen.

Bale needs to learn how to add urgency like ronaldo does when we are losing.

James is too average. We dint pay 80million for him to pass the ball 1 second after he receives it.
He doesn't take on his man one-on-one, no penetrative runs, too many sideways passes.
Varane needs to take pepe's place
This team needs to play with urgency, they spend too much time on rubbish build-up play
The team lacks balance and I hope ancelotti finds a solution.
We built a CL winning team and then perez dismantled it..

U can't blame modric, too many similar players to him were signed and that has really limited his effect.
You have more freedom when you are playing with a player that releases the ball in less than a second - Alonso and playing with another one that always makes direct runs and doesn't know how to retain the ball too well.
Compared to kroos and james who hold up the ball.
The game just passes beside him now, its not his fault, Ancelotti has to solve this problem but I don't see us finding a balance this season.
Last season, we were hungry, hadn't won la decima, had a player who was ready to play any position for the team - di maria, had a professor, teacher and coach on the field - Alonso and also had a fit Ronaldo.
It might sound too extreme but the truth is I don't see us winning any trophy this season.
3rd or 4th in La liga, round of 16 elimination, copa del rey semi final. Yes! That's how bad we look

Don't know what Carlo was expecting having Isco, James, Bale and Benz all in there. We were bound to concede lots of goals.

I am tired of this shite, we found our balance then we drove dimaria out of the club by offering him a poverty renewal then we buy james for 80 mill. we are yet to replace dimaria in the team. we desperately lack creativity

imagine perez presenting chica after this loss Laughing somebody is going t hand him a resignation sheet lol

you can't blame modric, he isn't a defensive midfielder, neither is kroos. Last year modric had protection from xabi and di maria's work rate to help; he also had an outlet in di maria, meaning since xabi isn't dynamic enough in terms of going forward, he (modric) could play the touch and go with di maria....pairing him with isco and kroos makes no sense

i would prefer kroos modric and khedira, but then someone has to sit on the bench, will it be james? the new toy people raved about after the world cup, posting things like "he says he has always dreamed of playing for madrid since he was a boy", like if i put that on my resume i automatically get a place at madrid smh OR will it be benzema, who as much as people may not like him,(i'm not to big a fan of his either,) it will be foolish, very foolish to keep him on the bench just to let james play false 9, a position he (james) knows little about...ron benz and bale shud start and plug a defensive mid behind kroos n modric....but it'll take some balls to bench someone u paid 80 mill for

now we've signed chicarito, i don't understand what he's supposed to bring here, i'm a fan of competition, not scrubs; i don't see chica getting playing time, it will be like last season when benz got tired at the end cos carlo overplayed him, since morata wasn't good.

i hope we can get the best out of james soon, whilst i didnt want us to sign him, he is here and i know he has some quality in his boots, but we are in a very precarious position now, cos its not only his position we need to think of but the defensive mid as well.....sigh we signed chicharito on loan, lol

I agree tito, exactly what I said before. There needs to be a player behind or alongside kroos and modric.

The question is can khedira or illaramendi do the job. And who is better in that position.

Khedira isnt a defensive midfielder, he's just big. He is a centre mid. I dont know what is Illaramendi's best in position.

I tell u. Perez has failed.
With ronaldo fit, Ronaldo, benzema and Bale is an untouchable forward line
The only way to make this team work is to play illaremendi is alonso's position.which would mean illara, kroos and modric cos if we bench modric and play illara kroos and james, then dat is double suicide.
Replacing di maria was damage enough, but to double up on the damage by replacing modric in the line-up, wud be annihilation of the team.
We have to forget the price tag really fast and drop james.
And it is true, khedira is not a DM, he is just big! (For nothing)

La Liga: Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid discussion Empty Re: La Liga: Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid discussion

Post by halamadrid2 Mon Sep 01, 2014 1:18 pm

The midfield worked last season because DiMaria was our b2b, he had the speed to run up and down pressuring the opposition team to lose posession and when he was cought too high up there was an intelligent player like Alonso to cover for him. Modric helped because he is good under pressure so Alonso and DiMaria had a good outlet to pass to since they aren't that good under pressure. Offensively DiMaria relieved Modric of creative duties because he was so creative himself so Modric had the freedom of either staying back or joining in attack. Basically all three complimented eachother. While we weren't perfect we knew exactly the position when needed to improve and they were:

-We needed a replacement for Alonso and we bought Kroos-We covered that area
-We needed to break the Lopez/Iker drama and we bought Navas-We covered that area

and here is where the mistakes started happening

-We needed a back up for DiMaria because we had nobody in the team like him but we sold him and bought yet another AM to replace him-We failed to cover that area
-We needed a back up for Modric because again there was noone in the team like him, we could've used kroos there so we kind of covered it
-We needed a back up attacker that could play in all the attacking positions and we bought Chica who will probably never play-We failed to cover that area

so in essence we took one step forward and five steps backwards

90% on the blame is on Perez because he refused to renew the contract of an unique player offering him a measly 5ME when his replacement was signed on 6.5 ME. If Alonso was talking with Bayern for weeks then Perez knew we needed another CDM because we are so thin there. He bought an AM when we don't use one and spent a record amount on him putting pressure on him to start. When he realised we were strapped for cash he went all Galliani and got a United benchwarmer on loan. We are still unbalanced as a result

10% is on Carlo for not having the guts to stand up to Perez. He seems like such a nice bloke but even for him therr must be a line Perez can't cross surely. After working so hard to find a balance, he is not back to square one. Hustory tells me he will get there eventually but hopefully we aren't too far off the top when that happens

Post by Onyx Mon Sep 01, 2014 1:21 pm

Carlo Ancelotti analysed the team’s stumble against Real Sociedad in the Anoeta press room: “It is not easy to evaluate this match. There were two matches. The first 30 minutes were very good, with quality, pace and focus. The rest was very bad. It is difficult to explain what happened. We conceded corners, free-kicks… We’re very sorry, I don’t like the team to play like that for an hour. The first half an hour was very good, but we have to think and change this”.

“It is a defeat that I don’t like at all. Sometimes you can have a bad match but a team like Real Madrid, when they are winning 2-0, have to keep concentrating and maintain their attitude to win the match. We didn’t do that, I am responsible and we’ll do something to change".

"We had no balance in the last hour. We did not have a good defensive system. When we scored the second we were a little bit weak and defended badly”.

The newcomers
“This defeat does not change anything. We have to change something because that is not good enough. We have to change our attitude and focus. The new signings need time to adapt. In matches like today’s it is more difficult for the newcomers”.

The system
“Without the ball, we had two lines of four and two strikers to avoid through-balls and prevent long balls. In the first half hour we did it well, but not for the rest of the match. It is a normal system that we had last year”.

The loss of Xabi Alonso
“It is not a problem with one player. We lost everything after a god first half an hour. When the whole team does not have a good attitude it is difficult for just one player to change that”.
