I think the rule is, if the ball was stuck goal-ward, then it'll be gifted tot he striker, no matter how many times it bounces off the defenders, and that's exactly what happened in James' case.

The official website listed as a James goal, so I guess that's the official stance.

It's an autogoal when the intial shot was off target and the opposition player changes the trajectory

The initial shot wasn't going off target though, it would've slowly creeped in, it just had a weird spin on it because Ronaldo shot the ball when it was played behind him

Initial shot was basically James touching the ball. The defender didn't change the outcome. So it should be granted to James imo
