Surprised that happened in the first half. We had a solid midfield out there; but allot of it just came down to the fact Ajax is faster than us and were good at exploiting it.

Ajax possession was only 39.1

Edit: ah, only for the first half

At the rate Messi is declining it's pretty clear Ronaldo will walk away with the record with ease

We grew into the game and I'm not upset with the second half performance.

First half was awful though. Out possessed and outplayed by Ajax. Would have been scored on if not for some last ditch tackles and for a bit we were being dominated.

Despite the win I thougth Ajax were better on the press and bringing the ball out of the back.

I thought Alves was pretty bad indeed.

De Boer for the Barca job?

The cynic in me says if Alves didn't misplace about 50 passes in the first half the possession numbers would have been in the 60 % region for Barca. hmm

Anyway. I'd actually recommend you to watch the game. Positional changes between Suarez and Messi (particularly 2nd half when Messi was playing more on the wing and actually tracking back defensively Proud) and alternating between inviting pressure in a deeper 4-4-2 (initial gameplan to counter Ajax' high press I assume) and realizing that Ajax are actually scrubs and outpressing them high was interesting. Ajax dominated for about 5 minutes around the 25 minute mark when Alba saved our ass with some last ditch defending. Other than that don't understand the doom. The positional game and defensive transition is certainly improving ten-fold from the Tito and Tata days. Still far from consistent and perfect but just watch the 2nd half and it's the closest to 08-12 Barca's defensive shape IMO (defending as 1 unit with very close lines where you don't feel danger all the time whenever the opponent has the ball).

If messi play in this mode for the rest of the season then its good bye to suarez and neymar..btw what has happened to suarez/neymar? Their first option is always to pass the ball and not attack the defense these days. For all their talent and ability, neymar i reckon can easily knock out 2 players without even thinking and still these pos's decide to still pass it up when they're in the 18? Hell, even scrubdro attacked the defence back in 2011.

Messi has been playing like this since the beginning of the season, only difference is the ball is going behind the net
for example last game he could of had a hat trick if not for the keeper having the game of his life.
he still set up suarez and others a lot today, suarez had two good chances because of messi but is out of form he'll bounce back after playing a bit more.

well the zara one, yes!! But rauls record is gonna linger on for some time actually, say for some 96 more months. As cr7 and messi are just gonna keep breaking and surpassing each others record every cl week till the next 7 to 8 years..fasting your seat belts!!!
