Bartra had probably his best game in Barca shirt. Whoscored.com MoM being defender in a 3-1 game. hmm

Iniesta did assist Nerman goal and had a few good one twos with the forward line.

That was sexy, Neymar-Messi-Neymar-Messi-Suarez-Messi-Iniesta-Pedro-Suarez

@Steely wrote:Interesting line up by lucho but it paid off. Our defensive structure was a bit odd this game. Not sure if I'm the only one that noticed but it seemed like we were switching between a back three and back four throughout the game. There were definitely times when it seemed like masch was playingin front of the defense alongside busi. Will be interestinf to see how this evolves.

Welcome

Yea I mentioned that as well. Couldn't understand Barca's shape at the beginning. It was almost like Pedro was playing as a secondary RB or RCM.

There should be more praise for enrique. I absolutely hate this guy but love him at the same time. That formation took some balls

bartra, man of the match. Glad Suarez is finally getting his feet..iniesta needs more game time to get back his rhythm, if you ask me. I know he hasn't been his best this season though, but let's give him till the first half of the season at the very least.

Bruh, this is Barca section. There is no such thing as praise in here. We like to sack Messi and sell Lucho at every opportunity. :coffee:

but why praise him?

his experiment worked yesterday yeah.. but it has failed before as-well
like in the madrid game.
if he stays more consistent he'll get my praise personally

The formation made alot of sense given the use of Ibra and Cavani. Playing against 2 strikers it allowed Bartra and Matheui to defend the flank when the ball was on that side and cover across when it was on the opposite. It also allowed Pique to be like a sweeper in the middle and not have the responsibility, but just cover the space..like Vlaar at the WC for example, where people actually thought he was a great defender all of a sudden.

Despite this, Pique still pissed me off. Does he even listen to the goalkeeper? How many times is he going to hoof the ball away when MATS is standing right there ready to pick it up?

Pique is going through some strange phase in his footballing life. It started to me when he talked about "it being okay to just kick it away" about 2 years ago...now, he has this thought in his head to clear balls into the stands when he can pass it, or just leave it to the keeper.

Also I noticed Mascherano dropping into the defence when it was needed to form a 4 man back line. I read some very incorrect stats saying he only misplaced 3 passes from 50something (defiantly wrong, I counted more than that myself without intending to) so thats something we could have done better but aside from his use of the ball he did a fine job.

Problem is, this formation as good as it was isnt very repeatable because its not often we will face 2 forwards like Cavani and Ibra at the same time.

Anyway those are the negatives, the positives is we won a hard game against a very good team and finished 1st.

How could i miss Pedro playing RB as some suggested. all i saw him is near byline on the right flank mostly isolated. often the attack connected on the left (because of Neymar) and centre (because of Messi and Suarez) and he is nowhere near . and i could notice once someone from centre wanted to find him but he was too far. Even without the ball he was nowhere near the backline. he hardly covered the left winger.was he just used to flood the midfield but then again the instruction to him was not clear to me. i saw 2/3 decent cross from him though.

Was he really at RB? I didn't get a chance to watch the game but I have heard the system be described as a 352, 343 and 3313,none of which gave a traditional RB.

Wouldn't have described him as a RB, but he did drop back into that space in more than a couple times. He clearly was instructed to occupy that RB spot at times. Didn't pay too much specific attention to when it was.

exactly. we changed shape but in none of the above formation he could be found as a RB.

Also for the Zlatan goal, it looked happened too easily. it was not a counter. we had players flooded around our box yet no one was near the swede, following or covering his sight. And he did not create space through speed well. don exactly understand who was responsible for that goal.

And iniesta was simply awful. wished him to be subbed more early. he literally did nothing but wearing the armband. i really wish him he comes back into form. i miss his master dribbling in tighter spaces.

I think some of you are exaggerrating with regards to iniesta. He didn't have the sort of performance that we're accustomed to seeing from him in big games but damn some of you make it seem like he had cesc-esque performance. Iniesta did ok, not great but he drove the ball forward at times and had some neat passing. He was one of the few players in our midfueld besides messi that actually attempted to drive the ball forward.

Certainly not.

Wouldnt even call it wing back.

I think people just got confused because there was no traditional rightback on the pitch and obviously Pedro has defensive responsibilities to track back.
