With Balotelli out:
Do eet.
What a completely ridiculous organization. One of the guys closest to the racial issue posts a joke and gets banned and fined for it.
Skrtel - Toure - Sakho
Henderson - Coutinho - Can - Moreno
Lallana
Sterling - Markovic

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal
At least it's just one game for Balotelli and he missed the Bournemouth trip due to that groin injury, so he probably wasn't fit to start anyway.

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal
Not sure why people are calling this 3-4-2-1 "Awful formation"
Do you want us going back to the infamous 4-2-3-1 in which we created a total of 3 clear cut goal-scoring opportunities in about 10 games, averaged 1 point/game in the league, Still made defensive mistakes and conceded easy goals (Made Basel score a Bayern-esque goal vs. us at Anfield ) and got dumped out of Champions League playing it ??
At least when we lose with this 3-4-2-1, it's fun. Unlike those disgusting games with 4-2-3-1 in the month prior

4-2-3-1 was awful doesnt mean we go to another formation which is defensively even more susceptible

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal
Most of us seem to like the 3-4-3 right now (or 3-4-2-1 if you want to write more numbers). I'm not saying I believe it's going to be ideal or necessarily long-lasting, but at least it's showing more promise than the 4-3-3 or indeed the 4-2-3-1.

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal
I actually enjoyed the last 2 matches a lot with the new formation. Even though it was hard to take the loss against United, we created like 10 chances that should have been goals. The Bournemouth match was also enjoyable.
So yeah if we're shit, it's better if at least we're enjoyable.

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal
I don't think it's only the formation, to be honest & now that we're talking about it, a lot has to do with Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling actually playing together in attack. That has hardly happened at all this season apart from the last couple of games. Yet that trio is our most creative one. Even if we adjust the formation, I think those three should be playing together quite a lot.

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal
I agree with that. Getting Coutinho, Lallana, Markovic and Sterling in the same team (our 4 most creative players) is a no brainer when we've obviously not been doing well attacking wise.
I'm glad Rodgers isn't going with Lambert and Borini (neither should be Liverpool players) no matter how injured every other ST at club is. They are uber shit, I don't have time for them. Also glad that Balotelli isn't being played as a lone striker anymore. He's so very frustrating up there by himself. Sterling has really been stellar up there by himself irregardless of the finishing.

Agrred Art, if Studge comes back, it would be sad to see Lallana go to bench, instead I would drop one of our CMs and play Lallana there

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal
I'm not totally happy about Sterling playing now striker, too, I just feel we're going to burn him out before the end of the season. Arguably it's mostly his good movement that he provides in that striker position and Borini could do that, too. Probably would have buried on of those chances against the Mancs as well.
Let's put it this way that if Sterling starts all of our remaining games of the year as the striker, I'll be a little disappointed, because we could and should rest him a bit.

Yeah. I think either of Lallana or Coutinho could do very well in midfield, too.

Allen should be the one benched obviously. Or even Stevie. But who are we kidding, as if that is going to happen.

If Sterling scores in this game, imo BR would think twice before not playing in central role, as a striker or as a player behind the striker

You sound like me during some OM years I literally kept thinking: If we're going to be shit, at least try and play good football. I'd rather lose 5-2 than 3-0

Watched Brendan's presser and Jones will definitely start Brendan was really annoyed with something, his answers were very short and the whole thing lasted like 5 minutes.

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal
Rodgers really did seem annoyed at the beginning of the presser but calmed down a bit as it went on.
I think he might be getting just a bit tired of having to talk about Balotelli every single day whether he's done something or not. There's also a lot of pressure heading into this match, and the Sterling contract negotiations probably weigh on him as well.
For his sake, and the season, I hope that we come out hard and fast against Arsenal. The 3-4-3 supports Rodgers' philosophy quite well and with any combination of Lallana/Markovic/Coutinho/Sterling we're going to create scoring chances.
As far as how sound the tactic is...I think it could actually work in our favour. With some players who have tremendous work rate on the flanks (like Henderson, Moreno, Markovic, Sterling if necessary, Can, etc.) having the middle clogged up with 7 players and a dynamic striker playing offence first can still be doable while trying to mask the deficiencies at the back. The key to this though will be to actually be threatening up front and converting on chances.

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal
Jones starting is just despair. He can have a good game, but Mignolet is better. Still, it's not the goalkeeper decision that worries me, it's the outfield choices.

Markovic playing one good game against Bournemouth and Rodgers saying he's already on Downing's level.
(seriously what a joke, already playing like a "20m" player )

Well, nothing wrong with giving the kid some encouragement, he has looked like he needs it.
If we stick with the 3-4-3, this will kind of be its first true test, so should be interesting.

Re: Liverpool v Arsenal
I am getting a feeling that Arsenal are cowards in the bog games and we should just press them to make their life difficult and they will just start folding. Only Sanchez is the worry because he is really a great player. We need to frustrate him somehow, I dont know f**** foul him all the time, dont let him get the ball at all. We need to score first and then kill them on counter.
