Re: Arsenal Lobby
I refuse to believe that Tomas Rosicky is 34.

And then you polish and shine and kiss those boots on a daily basis, and make it a mandatory part of the daily training at all levels.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Abou Diaby, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are all expected to leave Arsenal at the end of the season, to fund a "big" signing. (The Sun)

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Two of those are free agents, while the third has a history of switching clubs only as a free agent.
Somebody please explain how it will 'fund' a big signing.
Also, to that Sun report: thank you Captain Obvious.

Think Flamini is on half that, Rapz, and wasn't Arteta supposed to be offered a new deal?

Re: Arsenal Lobby
He's not played all season and there were grumblings twice about a new deal and both times, it turned out to be just rumours.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Think it's only right that Diaby is released. He has been injured almost 50% of his Arsenal career. That shouldn't be allowed to continue.
Re: Arsenal Lobby
So easy to forget the context, when we feel entitled to bitch about the club today.
Trascripts, courtesy Arseblog, on Keown interviewing Wenger:
________________________________________________
Did you have chances to leave?
2004, 2005, 2006…I had chances to leave, of course. I went for the club with a challenge to build a new stadium without dropping out of the Champions League three years out of five. That was the financial request. We made it every year. I knew that that period for the club was a very sensitive period and I feel I’ve done my job in a very committed and faithful way.
One day everybody has to leave this club, it happened to me…
It will happen to me.
What condition to do you want to leave this club in?
In a strong, healthy position. That means a club that has good players, good youth [coming up] behind and a strong financial position to go further up and develop even more. I will do that, you can believe me. The guy who comes in after me is in a very strong position to deliver something exceptional. I believe that biggest quality first of a top, top club is to maintain consistency in the results. I hope that when I’ve left some day and come back to the Emirates to watch a game that I’ll be very happy to see a quality team.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
So basically the board was expecting to be playing in the Europa League for 3-4 of the last ten seasons

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Can you really blame them? I find those expectations very realistic tbf. Note that 'the financial request' was to make it 3 out of 5 seasons in the CL.
This at a time when the sport became more about rich owners and bankrolled clubs, while we were locked down in long term deals.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
I'm ing the fact that it shows how little we know of the inside operations. Wenger could have been performing within expectations to miss out on CL football for four seasons, just goes to show how well he did with little resources in that time period.

Don't see why not. The Barclays Asia Cup is on the 15th and 18th of July; The Emirates Cup is at the start of August.
