Well, the Neymar story was an exception and here's why:

Bayern has a very clear and strict transfer policy:

1. They usually don't go north of 40m to sign a player.
2. They don't bring players directly from South America.

Guardiola, even though he was in charge of the transfers at Bayern, his targets had to satisfy those two conditions in order for Bayern to approve the deal. With Neymar, not only would he have cost them significantly more than 40m, he also was still playing at Santos at the time and had no experience playing in Europe (both conditions weren't met). So naturally, they went for Guardiola's second choice which was Goetze. But to my knowledge, they never went behind his back to sign someone against his will.

They're a well-run, extremely well-organized club. While they do give their head coach complete freedom to sign their targets, they still had to meet certain requirements in order for them to keep the club financially healthy.

And like I said, Guardiola wouldn't accept a coaching job without having guarantees to be completely in charge of the club's transfers. Case in point, the signings Bayern made under his rule had Guardiola written all over them (Thiago, Costa, Alonso, Coman, Benatia,Kimmich...).

I was always skeptical of the "no south americans" story. Certainly didn't stop them from signing Lucio, Rafinha, Douglas Costa, Vidal and James. Seems to me they just wanted a pretext to sign Goetze instead.

But there's a minor difference between all the players you mentioned and Neymar though.

They all had played in Europe prior to moving to Bayern. Neymar when Guardiola wanted to poach him hadn't played in Europe yet. That's precisely the unwritten rule Die Roten follows by heart.

This is a quote from Rummenigge himself when he was asked about whether or not Bayern were ever interested in signing Neymar (pay close attention to the last sentence):

We had a clear vision of what kind of player we wanted to buy. We discussed that matter with Pep [at a meeting in Zurich].

Really, there were only two players of that quality of whom we knew signing them was possible - Neymar and Mario Gotze.

We then told Guardiola about our experiences with players coming directly from South America.

So really, they don't mind signing a South-American player as long as the latter has played in Europe. What they seem to be absolutely against (or at least not that fond of) is signing South American players who have not played in Europe yet.

If you include Keita, Klopp spent more.

This policy was a reaction to the catastrophy that Breno's signing turned out for everyone, most of all Breno.
So after that our board decided that it might be best not to get players directly from South America.
Though I wouldn't regard this 'unwritten rule' as unchangable, eternal and essential, and I wouldn't believe our board that this was the deciding narrative behind 'Götze instead of Neymar'.

Especially if you consider that the Neymar transfer court case has proven that we actually tried to sign Neymar Laughing

So the truth is rather we didn't get him.

And what is surprising? Guradiola inherited one of the best teams in the history of football that won a treble, while Klopp inherited a Liverpool in shambles.

Didn't Milan spent a lot more net than Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern? Ofc yes, they're in reconstruction, the others didn't need it

Bayern weren't able to afford Neymar, tax or no tax. Thats the real truth behind it.

He would've wrecked their wage structure which would've either led to seniors demanding parity or him being sold in a couple of years. So they went for the cheaper , inferior Götze.

Please don't believe this Bayern 'No South American ' policy

It's just an excuse to hide the fact that they are not as attractive as Real or Barca to lure top class flair and fancy South American players. So many Bayern fans repeat this narrative of their board or pro-Bayern media to make themselves feel good

As if they'd turn down a chance to sign a player like Neymar rofl. Let's be real here.

What did I just write you POS?

Don't come here with 'Bayern fans this' and 'Bayern fans that' when the definitive Bayern fan, that is me, just told you exactly what you then repeat like a mean-spirited parrot

You would think that after his antics about leaving for good in case of a Juve CL loss, @S would have learned a lesson about being a loud mouth.
Well, at least this time around he's preparing for the inevitable, via his alt account of 'Serghei from Romania', Pep-loving Barca fan.

We had a near perfect year bro. Put some respek on my name. Everyone were laughing at thought of Juve reaching a final let alone winning it. I was crowned betting king of the forum too let's not forget. It was a bitter ending  , one that's very hard to digest hence a comeback trail was always on the cards

One thing I can proudly say is that my Juve has performed better than Bayern in the last three years or so. Even the head to head clash was ruined by refs

As a wise man on this forum once said 'Bayern are the biggest myth in football'. It's really hard to argue otherwise

3W 2D 1L in his last 6 PL games.

The Fraudiola boom-bust cycle coming to full fruition once again. The peak will be in the CL again.

Dunno why you keep saying this, their performance level hasn't been consistently great for like 3 months lol.

I know you want some perceived boom bust cycle you made up in your mind but the reality is somewhat different.

Not playing well and grinding out wins is still a great trait. Losing 7 points in 6 games proves the existence of the Pep boom-bust cycle.

Sane's injury is a big blow.

They should have brought a dribbling pace merchant like Zaha. He'd be a decent 3rd option on the wings.

Sterling/Aguero/B.Silva are going to be the only 3 forwards for like the next 6 weeks. Laughing

TBH let's discuss the elephant in the room

How can one not win back to back CLs with Xavi, Iniesta and Messi in the same team?

Xavi Iniesta Messi equals one Ronaldo

Mourinho's Inter was the perfect counter against them. Worst team they could have faced.

Of course Harmonica will blame the volcano and sit here not pretend Mehssi got shut down by 36 yo Zanetti.
