Walcott also said he's 'definitely' willing to let his contract situation run into the new season. Meaning he'd be fine with putting us in the position of losing him for free in six months' time.

I'm not and I don't like playing brinkmanship when the risks far outweigh the benefits.

Whoa! Not another protracted transfer saga involving Theo.
Sign da ting all over again.

Hope his goal scoring exploits in his last 3 games hasn't led him to think he has got the upper hand in negotiations like last time.Unlike his contract extension, where he had been one of Arsenal's mainstays he has been constantly on the periphery for the last two seasons. That said,I hope he signs it soon;can't let our longest serving player go now.

Ajax are readying a bid worth 10mio for Szczesny in case Jasper Cillessen leaves Ajax.

I'd prefer a season-long loan deal.He can get back to his best or Ospina continues to be wobbly. If this happens,we can probably sell Ospina and let Szczesny fight with Cech for GK.
If somehow,Ospina continues to do well we could think of a Courtois-style loan deal for him(for 2/3 seasons),whereby when he comes back to Arsenal he's in his prime and can replace either Ospina or Cech.

Since,Ospina says he wants to stay here and fight for his position I hope he's given a fair chance.

Thoughts?

From past experience, contract delay is never a good sign, RVP, Sagna, Nasri, Flamini come to mind. Arsenal was never held hostage though so I'm sure Wengers knows what to do.

I would sell Chesny and keep Ospina, they are at about same level but I like to keep the proffesional type over smoker, douchy and lack of drive type. Chesny is young but people forget he's been in BPL for long time, longer than DDG & Courtois combined, lack of experience or time to develop shouldnt be an excuse.

Ospina for cups, Cech for BPL and at the same time on the look out for real potential young GK.

This.

I'm OK with selling Szczesny albeit with a Madrid-style buyback clause, but I guess neither AW or majority of the ppl here are gonna accept the views.

Szczesny doesn't seem to be learning imo.Too many repeat offences. He recently got caught in some another controversy as well.

Szczesny is no more young as well,he's 25 while GKs younger than him like Courtois and DDG are breathtaking performances,Woj has been caught both on & off the field.

And I guess many people will probably argue Woj has higher ceiling for potential since he's young and GKs hit their peak when they're old.Well,Ospina is just a year older than Woj and in all probability have his best years very soon(27 & above for GK,imo).

As for the 'real potential GK',Emi Martinez is definitely worth a shout,he's 22 and performed admirably in his loan stint at Rotherham and was praised by Rotherham manager stating he was being watched by La Liga clubs. He maybe the one we all wanted Woj to be.

I also have hopes for Emi Martinez.

The only reason I can see for picking Szczesny over Ospina right now is loyalty - he's been with us much longer. Each of them has their strengths as well as shortcomings though.

It will be interesting to see how AW manages the situation. Emi Martinez looks most likely to be loaned though.

I'm probably one of the few who aren't concerned about Walcott's contract situation. This isn't like van Persie/Nasri/Sagna where the player has been vague or silent about renewing. Walcott has stated he wants to stay, Wenger has stated he wants Walcott to stay. Things are taking their time but there's a will from both sides to get something done, unlike in previous contract negotiations with other players.

And given our ever-improving financial situation, should we really be concerned about getting a fee for him should he not renew by the end of the window?

I'm with you Jay, I'm also not that concerned as I'm 90% sure he'll renew.

With that being said, if it turns out he doesn't and he leaves on a free that will definitely leave a sour taste in me mouth.
It's good for business to make money on every player that leaves, even more so when it is a big player.

Loyalty?
If I'm not wrong,I don't think any club until now have been interested in him.The only rumors regarding transfers were always started by either his dad,Maciej or some random ex-Polish footballer preferably a GK.

Rather it's been the other way round. We've been loyal and have kept on giving him lots of chances. We sold Fabianski when he was reaching his peak because we were loyal to Szcz and believed in his talent.I believe he has got dropped due to poor form way too many times. He needs to buck up and start working.I guess this can be preferably done in some other club and not Arsenal.

I thought DDG going to RM will create a GK merry go round & Szcz can probably go on loan to CL club.Anyways, now there are high chances he'll end up being Sanogo's teammate at Ajax.

Sorry, I have to clarify - I meant that it would be the only reason why someone picks Szczesny - because he has been so long with the club.
Not that I would pick him personally; I am quite neutral on the matter and keen to see how AW deals with it.

By loyalty, I only meant that he's been with us long. And we've stuck with him, like you said. Agree with you completely on this and your earlier post, was not contradicting but rather supplementing Thumbs up .

Why would we sign Arteta with legs when we already have Arteta?

Source seems to only be the Metro so I doubt this story has any... legs.

ffs.
