Arsenal vs Aston Villa [FA Cup Final]

Post by RealGunner on Fri May 29, 2015 5:43 pm

Arsenal Vs Aston Villa
Saturday 30th May: 17:30BST
Wembley Stadium

The big match

It's really quite an achievement to make to FA cup finals in a row. And we can make history to not only become the most successful side in this competition, but also to retain the cup for the first time ever. And above all, 3rd trophy in 2 years will also be fantastic for the club and the fans. But it won't be an easy task, just like it wasn't an easy task against Hull last season. Aston Villa are a good threat on the counter and as most small clubs, will make it difficult for us to play our game. But let's be honest, we are better than them in every position. It would be an embarrassment to not win tomorrow.

Team selection should be interesting. Will Arsene opt for his big game team? or will Arsene start Walcott and Wilshere who were both fantastic against WBA last weekend. Knowing Arsene, it will be the same team which he trusts. Despite Giroud not scoring for 8 games, he is still important to our build up and overall he has had a great season as well. Same with Cazorla as CM and Coquelin as DM. Ramsey should start at RW.

Welbeck won't make it in time but Oxlade should be a bit more fit and can be a good option from the bench late on.

Potential Arsenal Team

-------------------------Szczesny----------------------------
Bellerin----------Koscielny---------Mertesacker-----Monreal
----------------Coquelin-------Cazorla------------------------
------Ramsey------------Ozil-------------------------Sanchez
--------------------------------Giroud-------------------------

Potential Aston Villa Team

-----------------------Guzan-----------------------------------
Bacuna------Vlaar----------Okore-------------------Richardson
------------Cleverley----Westwood--Delph-------------------
N'Zogbia-------------Benteke--------------------Grealish

Match Facts

  • Arsenal have won on their last four visits to Wembley, and can draw strength from last season's FA Cup final victory against Hull.
  • They relocated their scoring boots in the 4-1 win against West Brom, with Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil all looking irresistible.
  • Arsene Wenger's team have won the last three meetings between the sides.
  • Villa beat Arsenal at the Emirates in August 2013 with a counter-attacking style - they'll look to copy the blueprint on Saturday knowing they have the pace to hurt Arsenal on the break.
  • Christian Benteke has scored 12 goals in his last 12 games, and got three goals against Arsenal last season.
  • Wenger is likely to keep faith with Olivier Giroud, despite Walcott scoring a hat-trick against West Brom and the Frenchman going eight goals without a game.
  • Arsenal have won the two matches between the sides this season by an aggregate score of 8-0.

Eight goals without a game is quite astonishing tbh. Giroud

Thats why Wenger wont start him tomorrow. Wenger hates changing a winning team. Giroud is happy with his scoring record this year, not hungry at all. Theo has to start, he looked sharp as well as hungry for goals.

--------Ospina
Bellerin, Mert, Kos,Monreal
------Coq Ramsey
Wilshear Cazorla Sanchez
----------Walcott

A quick Wikipedia search in my inebriated state reveals this:

1871/72, 1872/73 - Wanderers FC
1875/76, 1876/77, 1877/78 - Wanderers FC
1883/84, 1884/85, 1885/86 - Blackburn
1889/90, 1890/91 - Blackburn
1950/51, 1951/52 - Molecastle
1960/61, 1961/62 - Tottenham *ugh*
1980/81, 1981/82 - Tottenham *ugh*
2001/02, 2002/03 - Arsenal
2008/09, 2009/10 - Chelsea

I don't get how we can make history by 'retain the cup for the first time ever.' :vagi:

Think he's counting goals he's scored in training or in his garden or something.

The match facts cannot be questioned.

Retaining the cup in the 50s is definitely like a trophy.

no offense, but purely for the interests of Liverpool FC, I hope Aston Villa win with a Benteke goal and then he comes out after the game and says:

"How can I possibly leave, after a night like this"

PLEASE SAVE US FROM WASTING MILLIONS !!!

Please go. It's obviously going to be a Koscielny-Szczesny defensive cock-up own goal.

The Emirates FA Cup you mean? hmm

Still doesn't make sense. Budweiser was the sponsor from 2011-14. Now we're in 2015. scratch

Still clutching at straws here.

Month or so ago I also did research and found that it was only Spurs and Chelsea who have ever retained the cup. Spurs doing that twice. And y'day on the Cup final preview they showed on tv y'day, they again confirmed those two are the only teams who have retained since some change (sponsors probably don't know) in the late 50s. So I seriously don't know as I've just seen this

and we've clearly retained it before. hmm

Don't know how I looked into it the first time.

what ever we do, please show no complacency. Lets not do a repeat of what we did against hull during the first 30 minutes PLEASE! Sad

Obviously I am confident that we will win, but it will not be like a walk in the park. Villa are a completely different team to the one we faced earlier this year.

Yeap, we can't struggle again. Let's make it a relatively hardworking easy victory at the end.

Theo starts. No Rosicky even on the bench. Ox makes it to the bench. Giroud also bench.

Monreal ahead of Gibbs.

Hard to say who will be on the flanks more. I guess it is going to be super fluid. Double edged sword that.
