Hope Barca wont sell Rakitic midway through the season to City. He will instantly improve their midfield. Whatever his current level is, he is definitely better than what all they have.

Guy has more talent at breakfast than likes of Gomes and Suarez have all day and yet for some unimaginable reasons is being benched all season for them worthless, talentless piece of garbages who pretend to be footballers.

It would be so incredibly stupid from Barca to sell Rakitic. Impossible that they are as stupid.

Althoug on the other hand, if their fans are to go by..

It's Barca after all. But it would probably be a new low even for them.

Will happen.

How is selling a player a low? Why do you hate Barca so much?

I don't like Rakitic as a player. That's all. Players come and go.

I don't hate Barcelona.
It's a new low in terms of doing bad transfer business, not talking about something morally or so here.
Selling a top midfield player when you soon have to replace Iniesta and your midfield options are players like Suarez, Gomes and Rafinha. Unreal.

@jibers wrote:It's like some of you still don't understand. Rakitic is still a great player. Put Kroos or Modric in his role and they won't make that much of a difference. In fact Kroos would be far worse because Rakitic isn't functioning as a central midfielder. He is some pseudo winger/fb and spends a lot of the game occupying the channels so he can cover for Messi and when Roberto goes past.

I've said it so many times I'm almost blue in the face, Barcelona have a structural problem not a personnel problem and the heart of the problem is Messi's positioning and perhaps Enriques "coaching"

So what should Messi be doing exactly? Uve repeating that nth time now. Its always been pretty much how Barca play ever since Messi became their main player and has brought so much success. U make it sound like its Messi's fault for the teams problem these days?

In hindsight both Paco and Gomes seem like bad investment on Barca's part. But they are both young so can improve alot over the years. Though I feel sorry for Rakitic who seems to be scapegoated by Lucho when everyone around him are playing as bad.

I have seen Gomes misplace 2m pass. Sadly the suit is as good as the cloth and cloth quite frankly is scrub. So not really looking forward to that "improvement" part.

Agree with BL, you can criticise him when he doesn't pull his weight on either side of the ball but he is basically trying to drag them to wins by himself while his striking partners have difficulties scoring. If anything the busiest flank of Barca i.e. the Alba/Neymar flank get so much space but out of 4/5 games they make a difference in 1 thats just not good enough

We play the same way no matter if there's Rakitic or Gomes beside Iniesta....

It's a tactical issue.

If Rakitic wants to go, then he is free to do so. I doubt we are pushing him out.

I'd be happy if we promoted Alena from Barca B as a result.

Same way isn't same quality.
It's a tactical issue but that doesn't mean every midfielder you have is top class or good enough. It's not like selling Rakitic will solve the tactical problems either. All you do is sell one of your best midfield players when you already don't have enough quality players in that area. If Iniesta gets an injury or whenever he needs rest will you play Suarez-Busquets-Gomes? This Alena guy might be a good talent but it's very unusual for such a player to make an impact right away.

Both, the Rakitic camp and City have denied this move. Maybe something to think about for the summer transfer window.

Is the rumour strong? Otherwise no idea why there's so much talk about Rakatic leaving. Hes been so good for us for so long. And as we all know Gomez and Suarez is no where near as good as him so I find strange he may want to leave. Unless Peps offered him something special like being a starter instead of the role hes playing now at Barca...

Of course he will start (well, at least for the foreseeable future) if he does join. City are in so dire a state that they are forced to rely on a finished Yaya Toure and scrubs such as Fernando.

Rakitic is played out of position at Barca...

His skills are not being utilized.

Spot on. Imagine Kroos and Modric having to spend most of their time running around the flanks. Especially considering his weaker foot is his left meaning that all passing angles he can create are all but sealed, except crossing but he has no one to cross to but Suare who isNT that much of an aerial threat when faced with 4 players in the box.

@BarcaLearning I'll write a detailed response in the evening to explain in detail.

Haven't played well this season, and after his comments that he would like to play somewhere else, I wouldn't mind selling him.

Clear as day-light. Rakitic is as average as Denis Suarez.

Things looked better and smoother with Rafinha.

Rakitic isn't meant for this barca style, which is not only extremely accommodating to Messi, but also expects someone technically so skilled to do things that are not his strengths.

Rakitic's situations reminds of Yaya Toure situation at barca back in 2009, Massive talent, wasted due to overload of tracking back / defending , and moving them away from their best position where they could thrive...

Fact that Rakitic has to police the entire length of right side of the pitch, kuz messi goes central, and kuz RB positional intelligence does not exist, is reason why Barca is no longer getting the best of him.

Rakitic is class, and along with the slight dip in form, the reasons i listed above are also the reason why you guys can't get the best of him...

Bad Tactics, blame goes to Lucho too
