Not that it's an average or even bad (superhero) movie, it's pretty good and I liked it, but I didn't think it was anything special. Would rate it 7.5/10. Maybe I'm getting to used to that kind of movie
Still a tier 1 MCU movie but the reviews it got? nah chill pls
Thats higher than what reviews rate it lol. Its 75 on Metacritic.

Didn't it have 97% rating?
RG mentioned it
edit down to 90% on RT
didn't check metacritic

90% on RT means 90% of critics thinks the movie is good. Its not average score like Metacritic. 7/10-10/10 all count as fresh reviews.

Well. It's mostly everything above 6/10 that's fresh.
You can give a 10/10 rotten though. It's just an indicator of whether they liked it.

X Men Apocalypse getting average reviews.
Ugh, I wasn't really feeling the trailers, looked very generic in terms of plot. They should have done two movies to do Apocalypse justice.
Hope I end up enjoying it at least when I watch it. First Class and DOFP were both superb.

Getting 7/10s mostly apart from RT where people are complaining about movie not being 'fun'

Ummm not really? Its the plot that is being criticized and Fassbender not getting a big role.

Top critics reviews. Nowhere am I seeing people calling it not being "fun" apart from one guy who criticizes other aspects too.

Re: The Official Comicbook Movies Thread: Part 2
Seen fans (non-critics) complaining about lack of Fassbender a lot. A lot of the new mutants are fodder and everyone (critics and fans) says Apocalypse (the villain) is disappointing.
Its the positive reviews that are calling the movie fun btw.
So yeah I hope there is no conspiracy cry or critics being pro-MCU BS again. Critics loved First Class and DOFP and everyone is saying its not as good as those two.

It repeats a lot of what has come before, but solid thrills make it more fun than old, for now.
X-Men: Apocalypse huffs and puffs a little, appearing less mutant and more human, but it's still damn fun.
Taken as the next chapter in the series, Apocalypse is an undeniably fun and entertaining adventure and does a pretty good job of establishing Xavier's next class.

Fassbender is the only actor I've never seen been anything less than great. So not surprising.

Re: The Official Comicbook Movies Thread: Part 2
The cast in Apocalypse is actually fantastic. Maybe singer just lost his charm.
Will never forgive Fox for ruining Wolverine though. Might have made Jackman's career but when Wolverine films are earning less than Ant-man, you know there is an issue.
Don't even want the X-Men rights to go to Marvel (unless they keep it as a separate universe) but I am not sure how Fox will progress from here. First class and DoFP were both great so this could just be a one off or so.

I have high hopes for the next Wolverine movie. The rated r rating has me hyped. You can't do Wolverine justice with a PG 13 rating.

McLewis wrote:Just got back from seeing this in IMAX 3D. IMAX was definitely a great choice...3D...not so much.
The movie itself is a vibranium solid 9/10. Had all of the advertised feeling of an Avenger movie without actually being one and I think that's what make it such a great experience.
- Spoiler:
Tom Holland's Peter Parker/Spiderman is vulnerable in ways neither of the previous incarnations were able to pull off. This is crucial for the Homecoming film so I was very impressed by what I saw. Surprised he got as much screentime as he did though as that was a rather lengthy cameo. Getting him to that scene was a little off-putting though. Felt forced.
Chadwick Boseman killed it as Black Panther. Just exuded presence each time he was on screen as either T'Challa or Panther. Really held his own. I will definitely be looking forward to what Ryan Coogler can do with that material now.
I think this movie probably was the best story told in MCU to date, counting movies, TV shows and Deadpool. A genuine, relevant plot that really hit close to home. Poignant and unabashedly realistic. It felt truly personal to everyone involved in ways the other movies hadn't quite done, as it was on display even for the villains. Awesome writing.
Loved seeing the spark between Vision and Wanda already start to take place, as it does in the comics. He's my favorite Avenger specifically for what Paul Bettany brought to this role. He's literally their Spock in a lot of ways: Supremely logical yet cerebral and thoughtful.
I definitely think it's the best Marvel movie ever (counting Sony & FOX movies too). Before now, I had Winter Soldier as my number one but I think this just edges it. Still not quite Dark Knight but it sits at #2 all time CBM for me. Here's what my personal top 10 looks like:
Dark Knight
Civil War
Winter Soldier
Avengers
Deadpool
Spider-Man 2
Iron Man
Batman Begins
X2
Blade 2
