Re: Espanyol vs Real Madrid
Calm your horses, come back with this statement when we win a major trophy. As things stand, he still hasn't proven anything.
Last season we embarked upon a rampage slapping everybody left and right during the first half of the season (24 winning streak), only to succumb in the second half to injuries and poor form. Too early to start "shutting up" Rafa's critics.
As for the game, Bale has been tremendous and Ronaldo needs to set him up for a goal.

Allowed to ease in this season. We usually play the supercup to start the season against Barca or Atleti and then have a key game early too... not this one. Easy opponents to start.
Didn't have to face trial by fire going in.

Re: Espanyol vs Real Madrid
Has there ever been a question about how we do against weak opposition? No, this is just another throwaway game where Ronaldo can add to his goal tally.
It is gonna come down to the big matches. Atletico, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla, mainly he former 2. Not to mention CL and CDR when it gets closer to the final

Re: Espanyol vs Real Madrid
Well, we did question when we drew against Sporting and we would question when we drop points against weak opposition. So to answer the (rhetorical?) statement, yes, we question it.

But it shouldn't be a question with the amount of talent we have

Excellent game, loved it from start to finish, the moment someone lost their concentration (Ramos) off they went and a fresh player came on. So kudos to Benitez for that.
Can this Bale as a CAM actually work??? I don't want to make conclusions but he has actually put two great performances in a row which has NEVER happened. Will judge after we have played at least 2 big teams away from home

That's not true and I'm the ultimate Bale hater. Bale was consistently good in his first season until ronaldo's injury

Was going to say that Hala. He looks good as a CAM but let's wait for a big game to start drawing conclusions.

Too early to judge us tbh, we always have this amazing form from September until December and then the team starts to deteriorate after the new year.

The weaker teams have to drop off and leave some room because they can't cover the treats wide and on top without a lot of guys... the better team will just play up on Bale and that will end that.halamadrid2 wrote:Excellent game, loved it from start to finish, the moment someone lost their concentration (Ramos) off they went and a fresh player came on. Re: Espanyol vs Real Madrid
tbh, they're rotating who goes in the CAM with Benz and Ronaldo dropping in there. Bale's not being dangerous when he plays in the middle... all his good stuff comes when he ends up on a side.

Re: Espanyol vs Real Madrid
if rafa can sort out the soft goals the team normally concedes, then he already gonna have 1 up on carlo tbh.

Re: Espanyol vs Real Madrid
I think having Navas instead of Iker has helped alot too. That split second save he made today would've been a goal had Iker still been here. iirc this is the first time we have had a goalie with 3 clean sheets in a row, it's either the defence being finished/crap or the goalie. We are blessed to have both at the top of their peak this season. We should see alot more clean sheets imo
Next game is against Granada at home, that's another clean sheet with at least 5 goals scored

Re: Espanyol vs Real Madrid
yeah i agree, a lot of the goals we conceded last season was definitely iker fault 100% imo, navas been making saves i know for sure, iker would have let fly pass him like the one today and defense is much more organised can be a bit better still.
as i said before cut down on the soft goals titles are in the bag tbh, im not even that worries about this season i expect great things.

Re: Espanyol vs Real Madrid
As long as Benitez continues with his rotations we should be fine. Last two seasons we had alot of injuries which were as a direct result of no rotation which resulted in Barca and Atleti stealing the title from us. The more he plays the likes of Jese, Casemiro and Kovacic etc the sharper they'll look when we will need them

Re: Espanyol vs Real Madrid
true dat last 2 seasons the team needed some rotations and anybody who follows the team was begging for it, rafa is gonna make sure to rotate properly and maybe actually make the team a bit more competitive, so less sloppy plays and carefree attitudes.

yea, bale didnt play as a central attacking player.
in fact the formation was a 4-3-3 with bale and ronaldo switching sides occasionally.
benzema is definitely the key to the system being functional and fruitful though.
on another note, lucas vazquez looked really good.
where is cherychev?

Makes you wonder why he didn't play like that against "the almighty" Vålerenga

Re: Espanyol vs Real Madrid
People keep mentioning Bale played as CAM but I swear it looked like a 4-3-3 with Bale on the right just changing sides ever so often and in a few instances he was in the center of the pitch when we were attacking.

The difference is that Bale under Ancelotti was pinned on the right which resulted in him not getting or seeing that much of the ball. Now, he's more involved because he's deployed behind the striker all while having the freedom to interchange with Ronaldo, so he can go from mediapunta to sneaking out wide. He didn't have that freedom under Ancelotti.

Not keeping width by having people crash in is going to bite us in the arse against the better teams...
