I thought we were the far better team. Mathieu made Leverkusen look somewhat decent but they're fodder.

I hope the ginger man never gets to grace the Camp Nou again.

mathieu isn't too bad in CB though, he just gets stained by playing LB which even he said he dislikes lol

Sergi Roberto.

Hate managers that bench obvious performers for washed up names.

I agree with this. I don't have a problem with him at CB rotation guy but at LB he is just terrible.

Mathieu himself last season criticized Lucho for playing him at LB because he knows he isn't that good lol.

Alba was injured and though was match fit today perhaps Lucho didn't wanted to take chances hence Mathieu played as lb. It was temp arrangement dnt think it will happen again

Mathieu sucks.

Roberto and Munir saved our ass, good comeback.

Iniesta injured for a month. Neutral

I just hope we don't end up doing that bullshit of playing a half-fit Messi on for a half because he "can't miss" the game. I'd rather have a fully fit Messi/Iniesta/whoever that won't get re-injured a month or two later than one that will be there for parts of important matches but will continuously struggle with injuries for the rest of the season.

Re: Barca vs Leverkusen

Post by The Franchise on Wed Sep 30, 2015 3:26 pm

I only saw the last 25 minutes or so, about 10 minutes before the comeback started id say. In those 10 minutes we looked pretty bad. It was clear Leverkusen had tired somewhat (even though I didnt see the start) because they were trying to press but they lacked intensity, but we still had difficulties playing the ball.

I dont think it had anything to do with who was playing and who wasnt, for me it was the same story I have seen previously. This team just isnt capable of playing the ball around under pressure. Mascherano is too nervy and uncomfortable in possession, Alba plays the game in a rush and Pique looks confused as a player these days...even when he defends well. He used to be an outstanding passing CB, always looking for the deep pass and when its not on he can advance the ball with the dribble. But the last like 2 or 3 years he seems to have it in his mind that we need to clear the ball more and he often plays 50-50 balls or makes clearances where the old Pique (and the very best CB's in the game today) would bring the ball under control and look for a better solution. Alves either is becoming more cautious because he cant recover as well or Enrique is instructing him to stay much closer to the 1st line in the build up phase and the entire back 4 are very happy now to pass between each other without a ball going into the midfield. Inevitably this means we will be pressured into a long ball.

Obviously this is not my observations of just the parts of the game I saw today, but a general overview of how we play in the most recent years. So when I saw a clearly tired Leverkusen 1-0 up and still applying high pressure I could imagine how we indeed struggled in this game.

The injury woes seem inevitable.Last season,we were incredibly lucky and went the whole campaign without any injuries. The wheel was going to turn and our luck was going to run out. Seems we are going to have an injury ravaged season. Just have to deal with it.

They played 2 up top. As soon as we tried to build, the 2 up top would go press our CB's. The 2 wide midfielders would go near our fullbacks. When Busquets dropped, one of their CM's would go cover him. That left one of our midfielders unmarked. I was crying for a pass into the midfield all game.Unfortunately none came.We kept trying to play at the back and inevitably made mistakes.

Because of Iniesta's injury, Samper, Cámara or Babunski will travel with the first team to Seville next weekend, besides Gumbau. [sport]

Babunski please

Well,if we are dropping washed up names then Busquets should be the first one on the list.He is a walking disaster and is guaranteed to make a mistake every game.Counted 2 poor passes in dangerous situations which should have led to chances for them but didnt.Simply unacceptable for a player of his experience. And while we are dropping names, Rakitic can follow Busquets right to the bench.

Munir is better on the right than Sandro IMO. Sandro RW/CF.

Watch minute 10 of the game again. Plays a dangerous pass and gives the ball away. Leverkusen didnt capitalize. There was another instance when he stupidly gave the ball away( cant remember the minute).
Point being that he is a mistake waiting to happen nowadays. Pressure him slightly and he will make mistakes, either with a bad pass or by getting dispossessed. Simply unacceptable for a player of his experience.
In his position, he should always be looking for the safety play and not do fancy dragbacks and make dangerous passes.
The dragbacks dont work anymore as opponents have caught on. Just do what Xavi does and pass the ball back if you cant advance the ball safely.

Sandro was awful lol wasted a 100% chance twice and nothing positive resulted due to his plays.

Munir is ALOT better, at least on the right wing, and I reckon he will start at Sevilla

Suarez: "At half-time, the coach indicated some things you don't see when you're on the pitch. He changed the system and it helped us."

the genius of Luis Enrique, come back from 0-1 through Munir and Sergi Roberto :coffee:
