So, what does this mean? He's told them to go to their rooms while he thinks about whether to give himself a new contract or not?

Hard to say what it means without knowing who Wenger has specifically fallen out with. Wenger and Gazidis have been going at it for the past few months already. I've no idea what Sir Chips' position is. Josh Kroenke... eh, he seems busy bigging up Henry for the job. Make of that what you will.

Once again, though, it's far from ideal for the club. For example, how can we get a head start on summer transfers if manager and board aren't communicating?

My only hope is that there is an agreement and Wenger will walk in the summer. As long as Wenger in charge the transfer window wont matter.

With the way public press was going last 3 months, the board only has two choice, totally bow down to Wengers and admit to be his bitch or completely fire his ass. This mutual respect, working together bs has been debunked with all these mess.

If you read the article, it's no where near as bad as the headline makes it sound:

Arsenal are ready to reassure Arsene Wenger that their plans for change are not about undermining or restricting the core power of the manager.

Wenger reacted dismissively on Tuesday when the prospect of working with a director of football or sporting director was raised and stressed that he would only stay on if his final say on all key technical decisions was retained.

Arsenal have been exploring candidates for a new sporting director-style position – as revealed in March by The Telegraph - but the role that is being envisaged is to offer support across all football operations, including analytics, scouting, sports science, youth development and even simple logistics, rather than shape actual day-to-day aspects of coaching or team selection.

Which basically says they want the guy to support all off-field aspects of the club while Wenger does the on-field stuff... which is precisely the relationship we want here.

@Jay Wenger won't work well in such a dynamic, however.

He wants all power.

I don't think he would have a problem with bringing in someone with a role like that if he has the final say on decision-making which I never envisaged the board taking away from him.

The apparent back and forth between the board and Wenger in the media has been hysterical and genuinely confusing, especially at a top club, but Wenger wouldn't be above accepting more help if it doesn't impede upon his power.

Gabriel Marcotti: "I'm lead to believe Wenger will walk if Arsenal finish season on a high."

http://arsenalcentral.com/marcotti-top-four-mean-wenger-walks/

Take with a pinch of salt, of course, but Marcotti is actually a reputable journalist that doesn't do the whole Internet Bullshit Artist thing that often. It's an interesting view, as well.

So the same as usual then

Wenger's always had large amounts of funds to spend. Doesn't mean he'll spend it/spend it well.

http://7amkickoff.com/index.php/2017/05/12/its-probably-not-ivan-gazidis-wengers-at-war-with/

7amkickoff suggests that the conflict behind the scenes may be between Wenger and Josh Kroenke, that the latter is trying to push Wenger out, but that that this doesn't necessarily represent grounds for optimism (regardless of one's stance on AW).

Seems like one viable interpretation of the information we have available.

For all you know, there will be a stellar signing early in the window to give a sense of hope, followed by 2 months of absolute squat, a late splurge on overpaying for average crap after dropping 1 loss and 2 draws from the first 3 games in Aug.

Yeah. Been there. You ain't deceiving me again.
