That's Wenger just being Wenger. He probably doesn't want to be pushed to make a January signing or if he is looking for a replacement he doesn't want to increase prices for CM's.

Cazorla is a first team player and one of our most important ones, we absolutely need a CM if he is indeed out for most of the season.

Calum Chambers has a stress fracture in his foot that will keep him out for several weeks. A real shame as he's been a regular for Boro this season.

Looking ahead to Southampton:

Theo Walcott is back in the squad.

Xhaka is, of course, suspended.

Wenger said it'll be a full squad with one or two youngsters. I imagine Ozil and Alexis will be left out, as usual.

Mertesacker and Debuchy have returned to full training.

Possible squad:

Ospina; Bellerin, Gabriel, Mustafi, Gibbs; Coquelin, Ramsey; Chamberlain, Iwobi, Lucas; Giroud

Martinez, Holding, Niles, Walcott, Jeff, Willock, Welbeck

Elneny has picked up an injury and will miss Egypt's quarter-final. Not sure what the extent of the injury is yet.

Ramsey has a calf injury. Wenger doesn't know how long he'll be out for but he's definitely out of the Chelsea game.

Chamberlain got a kick to his knee but Wenger reckons he'll be okay for Chelsea.

Ramsey out for at least three weeks.

Chamberlain and Giroud will have fitness tests today but should be okay.

Welbeck could come back into the squad.

So some details about Santi's injury:

He says that the skin around his ankle was dead and the wound re-opened and wouldn't close on its own. He's had skin from his arm grafted onto his ankle so the wound will close. Whether he can go out and get fit again depends on that.

How do our players end up with such weird and obscure injuries Laughing

As harsh at it may sound, I think it's best if we move on from him. Or at the very least sign a first team player and keep Cazorla for depth.

A more reliable player in his mold has been needed for years. His injuries have been a problem for a long time. That being said, we should definitely still activate the option we apparently have to keep him for an extra year. One of the best when fit and a great one to have in the dressing room.

That is not a big procedure, I may sound overwhelming but it isnt. No way that injury will hamper him any more than his age Sad

Welbeck still out with whatever illness he had on Tuesday. Iwobi out with the same problem. Ozil still a doubt because he was still unwell after the Bayern game.

I suppose getting the shits is one way to take yourself out the firing line.

Physical or mental sickness? hmm

I would probably call it terminally retarded.

It makes you think, doesn't it?

I suppose for Bournemouth, Wilshere is a prized asset worth all the attention he needs to be fit. Whereas at Arsenal he's just part of the rank and file and never gets the special treatment like, say, Ozil and Alexis do.

Still not an excuse to have not taken better care of him, mind you.

It's not just him either. Ramsey is on the same boat, so is Cazorla and Welbeck and Walcott.

Cazorla's injury record pre-Arsenal was fantastic. Welbeck's too. Both are broken. Ramsey can't go a month without injury now. Same as Walcott.

It really does make you think how we manage to break these players while a club like Bournemouth have done so well in keeping Wilshere fit for majority of the season.

on early team news…

We have lost Petr Cech at West Brom - he will not be fit for Sunday. Apart from that Cazorla, Lucas as well is not fit. That should basically be it.

on Lucas' problem…
He has a thigh problem.

on Cech timescale…
I think he could miss Sunday and Wednesday against West Ham. He may be available again after.

on Cazorla update…
Unfortunately no. I think the season is over for him.

on Mesut and whether he's able to start again…
He is, yes. He is in contention to start again. He played 20 minutes with Germany in Azerbaijan and he came back focused and worked very hard this week.

Koscielny has had a recurrence of a calf problem and is a doubt for tomorrow. Alexis is also a doubt, but Wenger stressed all he had was "a kick" and that he could recover (aka he's playing regardless). Gibbs is back but Chamberlain is still out.

At this point, any doubts over Koscielny and Alexis should result in them being rested. We need them for the cup final.

Cazorla has had yet another op (his 8th, apparently) and could be out until December.

His contract expires this summer btw.
