Cazorla has had yet another op (his 8th, apparently) and could be out until December.

His contract expires this summer btw.

Cazorla told Cadena Ser that Arsenal triggered a one year extension in his contract while he was injured IIRC.

If he comes back as good as Mertesacker did, then I can wait

Alexis looks like he may have picked up an injury on Chile duty. Haven't seen further word but there's a picture of him with a protective boot on.

Ozil has a swollen ankle and has a "little chance" of being fit for Friday. Ramsey set to miss the game with a "muscular problem".

The new season has truly began.

Heard Iwobi was great. Looks rejuvenated. Hope he impresses like he did when he broke through.

Shame about Ozil and Ramsey.

“I’m pretty well for that hit and for the deep cut I suffered, I feel quite well,” Mertesacker told Arsenal Player. “The result I think gives me a lift right now.

“I can remember everything [about the clash], so I think there’s no concussion or something, it was just a very, very deep cut and the doctors already said on the pitch they didn’t want to take any risk, so took me off as a precaution and I got some nice stitches.

“I’m not quite sure yet [about whether I will be fit to face Leicester]. We need to take care of this - you know how the swelling goes and if it turns into a black eye or something. It’s too early to say because health is the first thing.”

There are still doubts over Mertesacker, Ramsey and Ozil.

Alexis is out for 1-2 weeks with an abdominal strain aka there's something going on behind the scenes.

Mertesacker and Coquelin are back in the squad for Stoke. Mustafi will be included as well.

Alexis not ready for Stoke but will be for Liverpool.

Ozil out of Brighton game. "Very short term", says Wenger but not fit enough to play.

Koscielny could be out, too. His bad achilles is flaring up again. He'll have a late test.

Iwobi is a doubt with a thigh problem.

Chambers and Welbeck out with a hip and groin injury, respectively.

So Sunday's team is looking like:

Cech; Holding, Mustafi, Monreal; Bellerin, Xhaka, Elneny, Kolasinac; Ramsey, Alexis; Lacazette

Cazorla on his injury:

“He saw that I had a tremendous infection, that I had damaged part of the calcaneus bone and it had eaten the Achilles tendon,” Cazorla told Marca. “There was eight centimetres of it missing.”

Wow damn pale
I think he should just retire and not risk any more damage. The body is such an intricate vessel, the slightest thing can cause the most massive upheaval.

Injury updates:

Wilshere fine, should be available for Sunday.

Ramsey is back in the squad.

Ozil will have a late test, rated 50/50 for Sunday.

Koscielny, Monreal and Kolasinac return next week at the earliest.

Giroud still two weeks away.
